That 85-86 tour, you expected Hadlee to take a wicket every ball.My best 3 cricketers I've seen
1 Hadlee..431 wickets in 86 tests, plus handy batsmen. Had it all and im bias but dont care
2. Warne ..Changed the game. Best spinner I've seen. He was incredible
3 Tendulker. Say no more. Just scored runs for fun
I really really wanted to say Kallis as a great package, but like the others more !
impossible task only saying 3
I know it isn't a popular opinion but Green, for all the carry on is still yet to take a wicket. He took a while to make a few runs as well. Without those couple of scores he's on thin ice as well. He might be a decent talent but was he really ready for test cricket at this point in his development?

He's ready and he looks like he'll get better the longer he's in the team. He was the third best batsman in the team for the series (which does speak more of Burns, Wade, Head, Harris and Warner than Green) and didn't look out of place. My only quibble with his batting was his lack of intent and willingness to move the game on. In his defence though, that also applies to everyone else in the team and, batting at 6, he always came in with the team on the back foot due to the failures of the top order.
As for his bowling, it looks swift and tidy and totally unthreatening. Having said that, the captain failed him. Unless there's some injury, Paine had way too much faith in "the best bowling attack in the world" <insert roll eyes> and only threw the ball to Green as an afterthought. "Here Cam, I'm sh*t out of ideas. Have a bowl to these two blokes who are well set, you got 3 or 4 overs and if you can't get a pole you're off." I thought Green was a genuine 5th bowler and not a part timer. That he got 3 overs yesterday and 7 in the 4th innings in Sydney when Starc and Lyon were offering nothing shows a total lack of trust from the skipper.

Couldn't care less how good they are.
They'd do very well watching how Kallis played cricket where hard and tough but kept his mouth shut unless necessary.
AB DeVilliers an absolute superstar and never indulged in this mouthy childish sh*t.
These two guys are an embarrassment regardless how good they are.
ps; Wade is not worth talking about. Just piss him off for good (coming from a Tasmanian)

Now I've got Brad Scott's voice saying "forensic review" over and over in my head. All I need now is a text from my dad saying "Hansen Out, Bastinac In" and the baggy green to royal blue and white transition is complete." we know where we are going wrong, just a slight tweak and l'll back the boys in "![]()

No you got me thinking "We came to the 5th day expecting an ambush and we got ambushed" in Justin Langer's voice!!

He played his first Shield game batting at 10 and took a 5-for on debut. He is plenty good with the ball, you are 100% spot on that the captain failed him. Was never given a chance with a new, hard ball. Was never given a long spell to work into things. Was given an over or two here or there, and then pulled so Lyon and Starc could deliver a few more pies.
On the topic of a new, hard ball, can someone explain to me why our best bowler, in fact the best bowler in the world, doesn't get the new ball? We have to watch 2-3 overs of trash from Starc every innings before Cummins is brought on, and he usually grabs a wicket in his first over. Why are we wasting the first overs of the new ball? My suspicion is because Starc is crap and can't do anything without the assistance of a new ball, whereas Cummins is good regardless, so they're trying to optimise all the bowlers. If that is legitimately the case, dump Starc and bring in someone to bowl first change, so your gun #1 bowler in the world can actually be optimised. Ridiculous pandering to Starc.
V South Africa
Pukovski
Warner
Marnus
Smith
Green
Carey
Neser
Pattinson
Cummins
Hazelwood
Swepson
G. Maxwell 12th man.
Starc and Lyon can have a spell, Smith back in as Skipper. Pattinson back in to lead the attack with aggression and skills, Neser in to add some swing and lower order batting.

Phew, for a moment there I thought I was the only person in Australia that believed Justin Langer has the I.Q. of a bowling ball.
Those two never won fu** all, which is the point.
It’s an incredibly boring, tough and gruelling sport played by a lot of blokes with Mental Illness, some of which are genuine psychopaths.
Marnus and Smithy are both on the spectrum. Wade is ya typical dumb campaigner keeper moron who just has non stop verbal diarrhoea.
100% - the bowling on the last day (apart from Cummings) was disappointing but there were plenty of Indian batsmen who combined real resolve and strong attacking skills against The Best Bowling Attack in the World(TM) through the Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane tests - including guys who'd never played tests before - while our top 8 struggled to survive and score against their second/third string bowlers.Gotta agree, the discipline they showed to bat out both those final days shows remarkable resolve, we could learn a lot from that.
Lol, imagine how garbage the Australian side would be without NSW.
Reminds me of the whole get a baggy green when you get your baggy blue garbage which was still persisting a few years back during a period where there were literally no NSW selectors on the panel.

Wade has to go. Would love Maxwell to come in as he seems to have matured a lot since his early stint. McDermott would be another good option. I can't believe Henriques was talking about as a potential replacement, he is just average at everything.
When is the pressure going to come on Warner and to a lesser extent Starc?
Warner has been a mainstay since he returned from suspension but he is really just a flat track bully. He is so predictable and gets out to so many stupid balls.
Starc just doesn't seem to have the fire at the moment. Pattinson is kicking the door down for a chance. Have always loved his intensity.
I don't rate Paine's leadership, would like Smith to take over the role and Carey get his chance in the test side.
If you replaced Paine's leadership with Michael Clarke's we would've won the series. It was extremely close and I feel if that LBW DRS decision that went in Pujara's favour by a third of a millimeter had gone the other way we would have won it anyway. Paine has been a great captain in elements of the job except for his on-field tactics.
Starc is so frustrating. Over the 2019 and 2020 calendar years, he took 54 wickets in 11 tests at an average of 20.55. He had tightened his action up and was bowling superbly. Clearly, he lost his action and confidence this season and he has not really been a threat to the Indians at all with the exception of one innings with the pink ball. If they had made a bold call and bought in either Pattinson or Neser for the last test, that would have tipped the result our way as well.
Lyon is the other worry. Two steps forward and one and a half back with him. His lines were all wrong in this test. Too straight to the right-handers and too wide to the lefties. When he finally did start pitching on an off-stump line to Pant or outside off to the right-handers he looked dangerous.
214 overs have been bowled by the 5th bowler/part timers for Australia in Australia since 2017. Their combined figures are 214-27-833-4. All 4 wickets were from Labuschagne. The other "bowlers" were Finch, Green, Head, Khawaja, M.Marsh, Smith an Wade.
In this time, three bowlers other than Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins and Lyon have been a picked as a frontline bowler in Australia - Pattinson, Richardson and Bird - all due to an injury. Between them they've played 5 Tests for 130-31-366-12. (Poor Bird had his career killed when he replaced Starc at the MCG road for the Ashes Test of 2017. If you just count Pattinson and Richardson it's 100-26-258-12)
All other wickets have been taken by Starc (87 at 24.34), Hazlewood (62 at 24.04), Cummins (92 at 21.39) or Lyon (82 at 30.70).
