There is more leniency in what you can say about Christians compared to Muslims.Well you can say whatever you like about Christians in 2025.
I'm an atheist and it's that obvious.
You are not being intellectually honest.. Your argument is easily refuted...As i said, if you want the AFL to crack down on certain slurs and insults that suit you, then it must be true for all issues so you need to be consistent... Not just the ones you like ... You live in a free country because of Jesus and Christian Values mate... Dont forget it.. Or if you dont understand it, learn your history. Thats the truth...There is a historical context to be mindful of with these false equivalency arguments.
Christians have NEVER been persecuted in Australia.
The same cannot be said of the LGBTQ+ or indigenous Australians etc.
why do either? Why would you call somebody a name when you can knock them out and get the same suspension?

If anything these suspensions should be 6+ weeks every time, it's the only way these players learn. Now whilst I am all for the MRP things to change (that's for another thread), this one I am happy they come down hard.
Once again intellectually dishonest. You only support the narrative when it suits you...I'm sure it will be as severe as the response to the homophobic slur.
Again, those who follow Islam have faced challenges/persecution historically and currently not seen by the majority Christian population in Australia.
We've only just passed the 50th anniversary of the abolishment of the White Australia Policy, of which would have excluded the majority of our Islamic population entry into Australia.
You're drawing a false equivalency here which is completely laughable. Sectarianism isn't the 'gotcha' that you think it is.
The footy field has been determined a workplace, regulated and legislated (State and Commonwealth instruments). All workers are protected from homophopbic/racial/sexual etc slurs in the workplace by the Commonwealth Anti-Discrimination laws.
It wouldnt matter if the player was binary, non binary, trans, queer, muslim, christian, jew, african, indigenous, etc. The matter is that the action is unlawful discrimination, in the workplace, and unlawful, and I would expect that player to be sanctioned fairly and consistently to the rules.
Funny he doesnt seem to be detained at home running around on the MCG of a Saturday afternoon.
You're not making sense. Why would they crack down on things that doesn't suit their agenda? All im saying is the AFL needs to be consistent. If they are going to crack down on certain things that only suits their agenda and narrative, and not other offensive things, they are hypocrites. And as i said the media makes a point of deliberately allowing the mocking of Jesus.. If the sign was one mocking Mohummad, would that be allowed? Or just Jesus??
And the blasphemous sign is very offensive towards probably hundreds of thousands of people in this country, and all over the world actually..
...

If thats the case then you would be all for a crack down on Christians being persecuted?? Or is it only if the narrative suits?I should add - Christians are a minority group in Australia![]()
They could use the South Park clip at the tribunal. This should be Rankins defense
And Crows fans on here to still whinge and play the victim card.Short odds to be swept under the carpet.
Precedent says 4 weeks if Rankine owned up to it himself, 5+ if he didn’t.
So will likely land on 2 weeks and an “education course” because it’s a star in finals, as opposed to Graham/Finlayson/Powell/Collard.
To ask the obvious: is anyone actually offended by the sign? And as i said the media makes a point of deliberately allowing the mocking of Jesus.. If the sign was one mocking Mohummad, would that be allowed? Or just Jesus??
Learn what? It will never ever be stamped out completely as in the heat of battle with adrenaline pumping people make mistakes and always will.
suspend away but it will never stop it totally.
So True.. Its the woke victim mentality thats creeping in here sadly..You must have one of those cards where it ranks who is most oppressed.
Your hypocrisy comes from your left leaning bias.
It’s not a mistake.Learn what? It will never ever be stamped out completely as in the heat of battle with adrenaline pumping people make mistakes and always will.

What persecution? If thats the case then you would be all for a crack down on Christians being persecuted?? Or is it only if the narrative suits?
councils that cancel ChristmasWhat persecution?
Blah blah. So boring. Take it to the SRP thread and Gough will tell you what to do.To ask the obvious: is anyone actually offended by the sign?
Historically, western Christian-founded societies have a stronger tolerance/appetite for freedom of speech around religious figures.
Also, I don't think the sign mocks Jesus. If it made a stigmata joke or something, sure. But the joke is a positive one.

I didn't watch the game, but if that happened, and I can't believe it did, that would be Christianophobic and surely a ban for that hate filled fan? What gets me is the hypocrisy of the AFL and its mission to pander to minority groups..
However If anyone in the crowd , media or a player bags Christianity or Jesus it's absolutely fair game. ( We are a country founded and based on Christian values ) That's the truth..
There was a disgusting blasphemous sign in the crowd on Saturday night from a crows supporter comparing one of their players to Jesus as a savour. The media went out of their way to specifically made sure this sign was aired on live TV at least twice
This is totally normal and fair game for the AFL. Nothing is said. In fact it's encouraged.. Just hypocrites..
