After the game had finished last night and sitting in the MCC, I went over to the tunnel to clap the boys off and offer some encouragement for next week...I know we were pretty horrendous last night, but they looked absolutely gutted walking off the ground especially acting captain Mark McVeigh.
While I was at the tunnel there was an imbecile Essendon supporter who decided to yell abuse at the players as they were walking off, Kyle Hardingham was one that looked directly up at this supporter and Mark McVeigh took exception to what was said and angrily turned around and walked towards the supporter whilst yelling back at him and had to be taken down the race by other players.
I was and the Essendon supporters around me were absolutely disgusted in this supporters behaviour and let him know about it and after the recent Stanton incident, we are getting a bad reputation as a poor group of supporters.
I hope somehow that this makes its way to the EFC in some way, but I am extremely proud of the team and club this year for making a stand and getting back to the powerhouse club that we once were!!!! Even though we didn't play to out potential last night, there should be never an excuse for a fan to abuse their own players. The reaction from Mark McVeigh shows how gutted he was and to hear this as a player walking down the race would be heart breaking, it still hurts thinking about the incident and can only imagine how the players feel hearing this.
Just my thoughts on an ugly situation that should never happen!!!!!
