This issue has hit the back-burner a bit in recent weeks, but I still think it is an important one to raise, and it's in relation to the age-old issue of crowd noise levels at Crows games.

On Saturday night I thought the noise levels were a bit down, but I did enjoy the Mexican Wave.

There is also still 'the negative element' that don't change, like the morons behind me. In the second quarter, they started their very loud criticism of the team, which drew dirty looks from several people around me (including myself). Someone finally told him to shut up or go home, and his reaction was 'I've paid for my ticket, I'll say what I want, if you don't want it, you ******** off' (with a few extra colourful words - charming considering there were some kids around). The idiot that sits next to him and whines all game supported the moron. Then at half time, he continued to air very publicly that he'll say what he wants when he wants (fair enough, but people 3 rows down don't want to hear it) while abusing one of the kids umpiring one of the Auskick grid games (which is disgraceful, but the kid wouldn't have heard it fortuantely). He kept quiet in the second half, except to say at three quarter time 'I refuse to do the Mexican Wave because I'm not Mexican' (and I just thought, just keep jamming your foot in your mouth). Sadly morons like this will continue to attend games, and even if we're in the top 2 come rounds 20-22, he'll still be there, picking every single fault that the Crows do.

 Well he must be a real intelligent fella.

yes you or someone like you often writes stuff like this every week. Stand up and shout ball when we tackle someone and set the tone. Better to doing it with some ppl and that way the rest of the crowd will get going. And as long as you're of a reasonable size tell the person next to you to shut up. All problems solved.

Oh and a good question to NC JOHNK is what is the club doing to increase the atmosphere and crowd noise at ammi stadium??

I thought the crowd was pretty subdued for such an exciting game, and was actually suprised by the noise when I watched the replay, they've really got those effects mics working.

Sadly the most annoying person in the stadium sits next to me every week...my mother. She has no idea and it's so embarrasing. She's one of those idiots that will scream out "man up" when we've set up a zone on the kick out.

And on a random note, there had to have been more than 43, 000 there on Saturday night. We were crammed tight in the members and there were no spare seats in the pockets like there usually is. I have no idea where the hell they're supposed to fit the other 7, 000.

Don't ya just love negative people
If he won the $25 million lotto he would whinge and complain he had to go and pick it up

I honestly don't understand why these people go to the games, I go to have fun, meet new people, kick the footy after....fun stuff.

There are these idiots supporting every team. I recall going to a Collingwood /Carlton game at the MCG and leaving at quarter time due to both lots of supporters who were sitting near me who fed off each other screaming at their own team that they were crap etc.
So we all have 'em.
The thing that always ********ed me off at Crows games was that when we were winning there was plenty of support but the minute we'd fall behind you could here a pin drop. And considering I have always followed an underdog team of Westies I just don't understand the mentality of supporters who only support their team when they are winning.
Rant over.

I came over from Melbourne with my wife (Bombers supporter) and her parents (also mad Bombers) and they were quite surprised at the lack of noise. A lot of it has to do with the fact that there are very few opposition supporters there. Our supporters don't get as fired up perhaps? And the fact if the opposition kicks a goal, there is almost silence, it therefore doesn't inspire our crowd to try and outdo the opposition crowd.

It's all about peer pressure you see....

I've got some rippers immediately behind me - I'm getting mad as hell and I'm not taking any more.

Venting time. Please bear with me, I need to say this.

A couple of weeks ago when Fevola beat Rutten on a lead, a bloke somewhere behind me shouted "Get in FRONT for God's sake!". So I turned around and said "How are you supposed to get in front of a leading forward, that's just stupid!" and I found myself eye to eye with the bloke who had said it, he was only a few seats away. He glared at me and said "Well you can TRY!"

One bloke always has a few bets - first score in every quarter, winner and margin, etc - and he and his mates spend the first five minutes of each quarter loudly discussing the bets, how much he has won or lost, barracking for the Crows to kick a behind  etc.

Then next to him is Mr Grumpy. He growls and snarls every time a player makes a mistake, but says nothing to support the team. His favourite words are "OH, STUPID, CROWS!!". It goes on and on, all through the game. You'd be surprised how many times he abused the players during the second half of the Essendon game!

At the Carlton game I'd finally had enough. After one outburst I said to the bloke next to me "I'm sick of all this negative stuff, if that bloke abuses the team one more time I swear I'll turn around and job him!" He smiled and said "I'll be right behind you". Then I said a few more words about how people should support their team and not just abuse them every time they make a mistake.

Mr Grumpy went pretty quiet after that, and at the end of the quarter the guy next to me said "You know he probably heard all that, don't you?" And I replied "Yes, that was the idea!".

The bloke next to me has turned into an ally on the zone thing - we both agree that "Man up!" is a stupid thing, so now we both make a big point of applauding and shouting "Good stuff!" as the opposition take five possessions to get the ball outside 50. I think some of the old ducks behind us are getting the message. :)

I don't want to be Mr Grumpy myself, always picking on the people around me, so I try to keep a lid on it, but so help me, sometimes it's hard.

This is my pet hobby horse. I wrote about it on another thread, but here goes the rant.

No better not. Just to say I think in the old days we "barracked" for our teams mostly standing up and sitting down it doesnt feel the same. Its like your at a movie.

There were 43000 supporters on Saturday nite, but only 10000 were barracking. There is the difference.

I had a go at the crowd during the Brisbane game when it was mostly quiet except when we started to come back. I asked the people to get behind your team. Some just looked around, smiled and went back into their dream world.

Pathetic.

Thats my two jacks worth.

The elderly people that sit behind us, and some guy just sit there the whole game and criticise EVERYTHING. For example, when Roo handballed to Goody in the 3rd quarter from the ballup all they could say was "he coulda kicked that himself. What the hell's wrong with him?" I HATE it. They never have anything good to say, regardless of whether we're winning by 15 goals. Geez. And then they leave five minutes before the game finishes.
