Toast Crowden - extends until 2021

It’s actually Crowden’s first League WAFL game with Peel.

Been pretty ordinary today - I’ve been listening to sportFM on and off and I can’t recall his name being called once.

Finished with 14 possies - apparently he started forward but spent the second half in the guts. 4 possessions at half time might have more to do with playing forward than workrate.

Not brilliant numbers I concede, but looking at Peel's team stats (and final scoreline) it wasn't a day for champagne footy (though Harley getting through another game is pleasing, and Giro is racking them up.)

New to playing at peel might be an excuse, but his performance is the same as his impact at afl level. Don't have knives out for him, he's young and will take time. But it's too early to be projecting a high ceiling for him if his main attribute is gut running but can't find the ball

I think he needs to simplify it a little, too often he doesn't take the first option he has with the ball and ends up trying too much

Great comments from Fyfe re Crowden...

“He’s the ultimate team man, Mitch,” Fyfe said.

“We love having him in. He bobs up every now and then with a goal but really his positioning, pressure and hunt, he’s as hard as a cats head.

‘He’s been doing that sort of role, that pressure forward, turning half chances into a scoring opportunity for us, so he’s valuable.”

Greatness recognises greatness.

Best thing about Mitch being one of our forwards is we have another midfield rotation. He'll get better in there too.

The fact it wasnt you who bumped this thread is a disgrace and you should be ashamed

He's a lot faster than I remember him being. He works well as a pressure forwaed much better than banfield who is a bit slow. Has a good field kick as well. And I remember in his earlier games he would get caught htb a lot but now it seems he has the strength to hold off tackles a bit.

I like Mitch. He had very good speed and agility results at his relevant State combine. Good solid body. What I really liked yesterday aside from his 11 tackles was some of them were really hard tackles. There was one about 15 seconds before 3/4 time siren where he really tackled the Hawks player hard to the ground. It was in the same passage where Blakely hurt his shoulder from memory. Crowden didn’t sling tackle (And wasn’t malicious) but really tackled hard and drove the player the ground so there was no way he could get an effective disposal.

A couple of times he got caught but one of them he received under the pump so just needs to give off that first option. He ain’t going to get free like SANFL/WAFL/Scratchies.

Love his hardness and aggression. That’s crucial when playing finals footy. Opposition players will be scared of him if he keeps this up. Has really impressed the last 2 weeks. Criminal that he spent the first half of the season languishing behind the likes of Banfield. Instead of credit, the MC need a kick in the arse for not having him involved earlier this season.

Agree with Banfield comment. From memory though Banfield was dropped for a couple of weeks and then earned a late reprieve for someone (might have been Colyers Migraine). It was right then that Mitch should have been inserted. But once they selected Banfield as the incoming emergency was only fair to give him more than 1 game. I guess the other factor potentially was Banfield out of contract and Mitch in contract. Either way I felt enough had been seen of Banfield to make that call and to look to the future with a contracted Mitch Crowden.

Was surprised he was dropped after round 1 tbh, also surprised it took him this long to get back in.

Mitchy had already shown last year he has what it takes to make it with a derby performance

It's really surprising that he's never been used in that role in the past. Is ideally suited.

I vaguely recall him being plonked there at some point last year and he struggled because he didn't seem to know what he was supposed to be doing. Think JLo identified the opportunity pretty early and the dev guys got to work making sure he knew how to play that role.

He's got really good instincts and I think sometimes other forwards aren't as intuitive and it breaks down. So really keen to see what he can do alongside Walters and Henry. Even alongside Hogan might help as well - as he is a similarly smart footballer.
