According to the Neil Balme bio ("A Tale of Two Men"), Craig left Norwood because of the appointment of Balme for 1980.
Missed playing in more flags, got none at Sturt or North.
1981 was the first season I went to matches with the old man.
One game that sticks out was the R22 Norwood vs Port match that drew 35k at FP.

Why the * would he have left because of Balme?
Balme's reputation from his playing days at Richmond.
Some people though it would translate into a crude team style as well.
He was a complete unknown as a coach, but Norwood did their due diligence (talking to Hafey, etc) before signing him.
