I think expectations for 07 need to be put in context, you can't just say look we are missing x number of players who fill x position etc etc.
If you look at the 15 other clubs playing off for the top 8 you will see compared to them we are not that bad off, I think that as a team we have probably slipped agasint the likes of Fremantle who have recruited to make the GF this year(yes I know we all do but they have done the equivalent of the Carey trade), maybe slighty down on WC but I think we are on even par with 4-5 other clubs vying for a top 4 spot. Even with an in-experienced ruck stock we are streets ahead of the other 8 teams in the comp.
Our midfield stocks would be considered better coming into '07 with Van Berlo and Douglas looking like stepping up and possibly the emergence of Knights, while this needs to be tempered against Roo possibly not being capable of playing a full season in the middle (as well as Edwards) I still think the propects look positive. Our backline has never looked stonger with or without hart it is going to be one of the strongest in the comp. Our biggest weakness is our forward line (wow suprise suprise!!) BUT you must also remember we played a large chunk of football without our A team - Welsh, Perrie and McGregor, surely those three (yes I don;t like Welsh but i'll go with popular opinion) can cover the loss of Hentschel.
So in conclusion we are going into '07 with a team which has no reason to be weaker than the '06, however we may be playing a couple of other clubs who have lifted their game above their '06 level - hence the possibility of falling down the ladder a bit.
