James Gallagher
Deservingly named as the best player on the ground in Norwood’s win over Port Adelaide, James played a great game gathering 35 possessions. His work rate over the four quarters and his skill level was excellent and he finished the match with three goals.
Kris Massie
Returning to his best form after a bout of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome during the pre-season, Kris’ effort for the Redlegs was terrific. He finished the game with 19 disposals and was and valuable contributor to the teams win. An impressive part of his game was his tackling, smothering and blocking which often go unnoticed.
Ronnie Burns
A great effort considering this was the first occasion he had played with his new teammates, and his side (Port Adelaide) lost by 11 goals. Ronnie finished the match with 28 possessions and these were a direct result from his hard work. Played consistently both in attack and in defense. A top effort.
Matthew Smith
Matthew (representing the Magpies) finished the day with 16 touches and 8 marks and showed he has the ability to take the next step to AFL level. Playing across Half Back his run out of defense created many attacking options for his teammates and his use of the ball was very good.
Michael Doughty
Michael finished the day with 21 possessions and was credited with six tackles, which was a pleasing statistic. A catalyst for South Adelaide’s revival in the third quarter, his work rate and skill level was excellent.
Robert Shirley
Robert’s reading of the play and getting important touches when South were making a challenge were pleasing aspects of his 22 possession, 2 goal performance for the Eagles. Although not being a dominant player, he was still a valuable contributor in the win.
Trent Hentschel
Four goals from 17 possessions playing at Full Forward was great effort by Trent. His strong leading together with his strong hands were a highlight of his game. His natural football brain and his ability to do the right thing at the right time make him a classy player to watch.
Nathan Bock
Nathan played across half forward and started the game very well, displaying a strong work ethic. Faded out as the game progressed and became a victim of team balance, having a couple of stints on the bench.
Andrew Crowell
Andrew, playing in a back pocket didn’t gather many possessions, however his role on the day was a negating role and he played the role very effectively. The 10 touches he had on the day were all effective ones.
Daniel Schell
Daniel played the first three quarters in defense before moving to Full Forward in the last term, where he booted six goals. His marking, whether it was on a lead or in a pack was excellent. His work rate for the four quarters was very good.
Ben Nelson
A solid game from Ben as he gathered 15 possessions. His tackling and pressuring of opponents was very good.
Aidan Parker (Rookie)
Played Full Back for South Adelaide on Trent Hentschel and competed well for the day
Hayden Skipworth (Rookie)
Hayden was one of the Eagles best players gathering 27 touches in a good game. His work rate, particularly in the 2nd half was very good.
The Round 1 SANFL Player of the Round was won by James Gallagher.
