Going over old ground, the Hentchel injury was accidental. very unfair to blame that on Thomas.

Seriously Thomas has been done to death. It was a legal tackle and for people to honestly believe that Thomas was thinking "I'm going to try and break this fella's leg" is ludacris.

Was still ridiculous, and not required.

I thought he has hurt a few more players but I must be wrong
besides Accidentaly putting Hentschell out for a year
And delibrately injureing Bassett (concussion) who only missed the rest of the game

I cant think of anyone else he has injured.

Byron Pickett undoubtedly killed off James Begley's career:thumbsd:

I liked Begley:o

Begley had a promising career ahead of him untill he the injury. it was a pitty for him to leave like he did :(.

I actually met Begley in 2005 few mths before he retired and he and Rutten were great guys

Let's not pump him or 'the injury' up to be something he/it wasn't.

1) He played Round 1 against West Coast a few weeks after the incident (and four more games after that in Rounds 3, 4, 5 and 7 before being omitted due to poor - some would say standard - form).

2) He was a decent flanker/midfield rotation-type who had already been rather disappointing well before the Pickett incident - having already played seven underwhelming seasons at two clubs and perhaps having seen the writing on the wall, had focussed a fair bit on his journalistic career well before the end.

That Matt Thomas spear tackle on Bassett last year was pretty nasty. Luckily Bassett wasn't hurt too badly, as it could have been a lot worse. Shaun Burgoyne taking out Bass a few seasons ago was pretty bad as well. He got away with it as well IIRC.

I don't remember too many Port players being injured in showdowns except for that Bickley/Wakelin incident. That was one moment that I'm sure most AFC supporters aren't too proud of.

When 12-year old Matt Thomas disguised himself as a bounce plate, yep.

Gold :D

Yeah Rehn did his knee (I think in a pre-season game) by landing awkwardly on a bounce plate.

It was a fair and legal shirt-front back then when it happened, under today's quasi-netball rules Burgoyne would have gotten about 4 or 5 weeks for it.

Lets not over exaggerate the incident in retrospect because of the new soft rules.

I recall going mental back them because Bassett had his head down for 4 steps chasing the tumbling ball, and Burgoyne made no attempt at the ball, just going straight for a bump on the head of a player not looking... was a dirty act, and still should've got games.

The new rules would've paid it now, but it was still a free back then IMO.

Even though he didn't mean to break Trent's leg so badly, I still think that the guys a thug lol. I think that the tackle he laid on Bassett was unnecessary. He should have pulled him down to the ground, not force his upper body into it :thumbsd:

Was it him that bumped Myke Cook on the weekend? The commentators said he was bumped after he kicked it and got up a bit sore and had to come off.

I was glad though that no one was injured last weekend. After the first showdown last year, i was extremely worried. 19 men I think we were reduced to
