But I'm sure we could find a way to trade them for some 68 yo footballer playing the Timbucktoo Football League.......

Lets be realistic......
So what if have a few bad years. Thats the way the AFL is designed. The only problem is as a multi-million dollar company do you try to maintain market share or do you go for a full resructure. If you believe you could fluke a flag with the list you have get a few older fellows and try to plug some holes. If you think you will struggle to hold your own.....bring out the axe...anyone over the age of 26 over a five year period of rebuilding will not be playing in your next premiership or will be that belted by playing in an inexperienced side and therefore not of much use should go.....trade away all the stars, get early draft picks then slump to the bottom for a few years.....more draft picks....then like all other sides rise to the top. We should have reacted quicker this year as we have got a few good players to unload.
The coach on the other hand is in a no win situation......The club wants results....so he does his best and you finish in the finals....poor draft picks and he gets a crappy list to try to finish in the finals again with. Trying to finish in the 8 with an old side is suicide for a coach but what other options does he have. If he doesn't make the finals he gets the flick.
Are there people out there that really think that Gary Ayres would not have been succesfull at Brisbane or that Leigh Matthews would have one the last 3 premierships with the Crows if he was here. Maybe there is a fine line between a few coaches but you must have the cattle.
