Re: Crows plan Walker talks! (Part 2)

Yet the only one that could sign him up and does need someone to build a forward line around, went for the guy with the dodgy shoulder.

the 17th team wasn't GWS :D it was more of a 99% of type thing except with 18 teams..so yeah 94% of all teams in the AFL would sign him up.

GWS would take Walker - but a a strong CHB is a great asset to have especailly in a fledgling team which is going to get flogged for the next 2 years.

not much point having 1 gun FF who isn't going to get the ball.

Re: Crows plan Walker talks! (Part 2)

give me a break

in the right forward structure the guy would be kicking 5+ a week.

it is great to see we have the common sense to be pigeon holing a 21 year KPF into a "very good" HFF despite the fact he has already shown the ability to be a game changer.

He is, by the length of a football field, the most talented forward this club has and I would say the 17 of the 18 clubs would sign him up with a fraction of second if they could.

I agree with this 100 %

Walker is still only 21, yet people are trying to critque him as though he is a 26 year old key forward. His ability to read the game will continue to improve with experience. He's got the size and the leg to be a gun.

Every club in the AFL would be lining up to take Walker if they could. We're just expecting something overnight and often forget that he is only 21. Jack Reiwoldt is 2 years older and is only just starting to make his mark after seeing a lot more gametime than Walker has seen so far.

Re: Crows plan Walker talks! (Part 2)

Phill Harper said on MMM Friday that it was decided at the start if the year that it would be discussed later in the year. And that no party has made a move to have it done earlier.

He seemed unfased about speculation on his future.
Was he fazed at all about Phil's future?

There is no doubt Walker is a game changer and that all 17 other clubs would sign him up in a flash. But, his biggest strength is not timing his leads or taking contested grabs. He needs to improve this part of his game and I am sure he will.

totally agree,in lower grades he can do anything but in the afl all he is is a great crumbing and opportunistic forward pocket, with a great kick.not bad abilities to have mind you but little wonder craigy used to do his head in. certainly hope he can learn to mark one day.

he does, agreed - but he is hardly a good HFF

buddy, you are entitled to your opinion ,but if you think tex is the full package and you are happy with his all round ability i will book you a room and the jacket to go with it! me well i think he needs to work on his marking,he is a good mark one on one using his body but is a poor chest mark,i could count on one hand the amout of marks he has taken above his head and sometimes you have to question his attack on the ball.he is also flat footed and dosent chase. dont get me wrong i think he is a very talented player that could be anything but boy he has a long way to go!

Re: Crows plan Walker talks! (Part 2)

He will probably never be the complete package - and that doesn't really matter. He doesn't have to be perfect. Even if he never improves at all from where he is at the moment (and I have no doubt he will), he's still a very useful key forward.

The trick is to figure out how to extract the best out of a player while covering up his flaws, rather than lambasting him for not being Tony Modra.

Tony Modra was perfect? That's news to me.:D But seriously one of the things that frustrated me about Craig was that he never seemed to understand that sometimes perfection is unattainable.

Of course Mods was perfect how dare you suggest otherwise! :D

There is massive upside in Walker. You cant teach a bloke to kick like he does. You can not teach a guy to be a goal magnet and have x-factor plus...

It is very easy to teach a guy to lead... With a new coach and a new forward set up he feels comfortable in it is only a matter of time...

Re: Crows plan Walker talks! (Part 2)

Buddy isn't the complete package either. Not even close.

But we'd take him. Who wouldnt....?

Nope, he looks laconic, he doesnt tackle hard enough, he is poor defensively, he is a poor overhead mark, he doesnt take enough contested marks, he doesnt compete hard enough, and he doesnt attack the contest hard enough.

Maybe good enough as a 6' 5" crumbing forward.

And the last 3 weeks he is averaging just under 4 goals a game. He is 21 and will improve his game. How many is he going to kick when he is in a forward set up that works for him, we have midfielders who can hit his chest and he improves his timing of his leads. Frightening! And I dont believe he is fully fit...

Re: Crows plan Walker talks! (Part 2)

I think you hit the nail on the head there freddy. What walker has you cannot teach and these are the type of players that can change a game off their own boot in a 5 minute period. With his footy smarts and skills Walker is dangerous anywhere in the offensive half where as tippet would be dangerous close to goal. To me that is the makings of an elite forward pairing, let's restructure our forward line and to take advantage of their strengths.

The other stuff will come with time and maturity but we must nurture this talent because he will no only win games for us but will bring in the next generation of crows fans.

I would compare him to Ian Perrie as complete opposites.

Perrie was great on the lead and a solid contested mark. Rarely dominated SANFL, Useless kick at best, no x-factor, couldnt crumb, terrible snap..... How do you teach those skills?
