I believe the Adelaide Crows should target Damon White from the Power. He is a definate talent and just the sort of player we need. Could he be somehow involved in the Tyson Stenglein deal. Maybe Stenglein to West Coast, a couple of west coast players to Port and White to the crows.

You would want to get more for Stenglein than just White.
Proven form is good form, so going by that you are right, and may I say that hopefully this is the last year where Stenglein would be worth more than White.

However
We got pick 8 (that became 6) for Barry Brooks. That was trading purely on potential.

And St. Kilda are still kicking themselves. I heard Grant Thomas on SEN a couple of weeks ago and basically gave Brooks a bit of a pasting.

What you just mentioned should be an example for all other teams of what a bad trade that was from St. Kilda's point of view.

It may have backfired (Isn't he injured?), but at the time they desperately needed a young ruckman, and on potential he was supposedly far better than anything in the draft that year.
A well worth gamble that may not have worked yet, but not necessarily a bad gamble if that makes sense.
To put it another way, sometimes you just have to take a punt. Not all punts work out, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are bad punts.

They traded the 8th pick in the draft for a ruckman selected 15th in the best draft of all-time, only a year prior. Not drawing a long-bow by any stretch. Not as if his upside mysteriously dissipated over that 12 month period.

Hall????????

C'mon DT you aren't serious. While I like Hall he will be what 23 with 1 AFL game to his name.

I rate Hall very highly - despite the fact he'll be 23 come March next year.

He's a ball magnet and has had bugger all opportunity at Port Adelaide - see Thurstans, Cassisi (both pre-2004), Koulouriotis, White et al before him.

All he needs is an extended chance.

If he's delisted from the Power, and 99% of those on the Port board believe he will be, we'd be nuts not to pick him up if he's still available by the time our 3rd round+ pick is to be used.

If we can pick him up as a bonus player by way of trade I'd be very happy.

I haven't seen much of him, what sort of player is he DT?? I know he's a midfielder but that's about it...

He is a nuggety onballer with a booming left foot kick. He is a bit of an inside player but I would take him in the pre-season draft or with a very late pick. Not worth trading for IMHO.

Just following on from what Stiffy said, he's in and under and hard at it, relatively small but powerful frame, has fine skills - can play inside or outside.

Basically he wants it, gets plenty of it and uses it well.

Time is against him sure - turns 23 in March - but geez, I'd rather have him in AFC colours than Skipworth, Doughty, Gallagher, Shirley, Bode (biggish call I know), et al.

enough of this damon white love in.

now he may have some ability, but so did Evan Hewitt.

Not only can he not crack a game, not only is Toby Thurstans ahead of him in the pecking order, he does not believe he is just about to get his chance.

Port have not done a good job reassuring him that he is in their future plans, if they had why would he want to be traded?

Now if they have had 3 years to look at this guy, and are not convinced by teh player, can we all stop this. Some of you are going teal with envy at their list.

Maybe he's worth a shout, but let's not entertain giving too much up for him.

You can be too clever in trying to 2nd guess who is cherry ripe for a breakthrough.

I understand what you're getting at, but what did Hewitt ever do at the Roos apart from that tackle on Rehn? Sure he was a bit tall, and a bit young, and a bit aggressive, but so was I before mum took away my stilts and testicles five years ago.

In the games I've seen White play he's presented like he's got a Sherrin-fetish, got plenty of touches from CHF/FF (averages 9 a game), taken some impressive grabs and has kicked a few goals.

Would I give away the family silver to get him? No. But I'd be happy to part with a second rounder to have him in our colours.

I am sure we would have sounded Alan Stewart out about his opinion of Damon White and got some inside info.

I doubt we would go in head first without doing a bit of research.

sorry, but that doesn't cut it.
Why not?????

Do you think Alan Stewart would want to work with someone next year that he doesn't think is up to it or has some other issues?????

I am not saying sell the farm to get him but for pick 24 he would be a very good pick up.

You mention he is behind Thurstans in the pecking order but why don't you tell us why????????

Thurstans is more versatile because he can play at both ends and Choko has even thrown him into ruck a few times. Next year Port will have Primus back so I think its fair to say that both White and Thurstans will stuggle to get a game with Primus playing as a tall forward. I am pretty sure that Port won't have their captain playing SANFL.

sorry too much blind faith.
Alan Stewart worked with him already for the last 3 years.

as you say, White prob won't make their team next year either.

Our key position woes are not going to be solved by a player who can't get a game elsewhere.

Thurstans maybe is more versatile, he is also rubbish.

You talk about not being able to get a game with the premiers as akin to playing with Upper Kumbucta 4ths...

If someone can provide a quote from Damon White where he's said he wants to be traded, that'd be really interesting.

one of your media men m.rucci said it in one of his many port articles last week
