 Where did we go wrong:confused:

Well, these were my observations....

1. Too indecisive in the first half
2. No Talking - Well it appeared that way with people being caught with the ball
3. Why was Stinga on the bench for 95% of the first half
4. Who was on Caracella:confused:
5. No shepherds and tap ons in the first half.
6. AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN; a couple of decisions go against us and we drop our bundle.

I hate saying this; but Essendon were just too good when the game was in the balance. Full Credit too them

They must have manned up when we had the ball!
Hence No. 1 and our penchant for going wide instead of down the guts.

Our kicking into the forward line was the Crows of last year
Our filling the forward space when they had the ball was awful

The scoreline flattered the Crows

Still in Group 2

You can only play as well as the opposition allows - and we weren't allowed to play as we would have liked - and the signs were there early that it was going to be tough - our response was disappointing.

That 5 goal run at the end of the 1st quarter was the killer - we needed to be able to repond in that time if we were to have a chance and we didn't - from that point on we were playing catch up and lost the intiative.

I thought the boys tried hard and played the game out but the way it turned out for Macca in his 150th about sums up our night - "dirty" - eg - he could easily have had two frees in front of goal instead of giving up a free fpr holding the ball when it was obvious he had beengrabbed too high and having the 2nd one touched after another high tackle - i'd say home town influence - perhaps even the "class 1" influence where those sides get a few iffy's to go their way!

I must admit I ao had an eye on the 36er's - so that helped to ease the pain!

Damn!

Very disappointing.

I saw it as going wrong for us in these ways:

1. Bombers were a bit better and more intense. Deserved to win it.

2. Crows had a dirty night. Just one of those games.

3. A few things went wrong in the last half of the first quarter, heads dropped all over the ground. The Crows talked themselves out of it from there.

4. A couple of disappointing calls resulted in 2 goal turn-arounds. Mcleod tackled high in the goalsquare - Bombers free kick. Call is "advantage", 2 subsequent possessions & Crows intercept - call the free back. That sort of stuff. Not often but it happened.

In the end the Crows did well to keep it down to six goals. but it should have been a heck of a lot closer.

Need to regroup a bit now. Things won't go that dirty on us again wthis season with any luck.

im not here to have a go at you crowa supporters....

the problem with you guys are your key position players...

Your backline is far too slow (hart, smart, bassett) and your forwards are all raw and really you cant rely on any of them kicking 5 goals a week for you....

the only posivitive to come out of the come was a bloke called johncock

It seemed we departed a bit from the structure we've played with so far....Schell on the bench, Stinger on the bench, Goodwin to half back...we didn't lose because of this but it seemed a bit strange to depart from what had been successful in 3 previous games.

Bomber dave makes a good point: our key position players were poor last night...up forward we were ineffectual and we couldn't stop Lloyd down back. However, if we win the midfield this problem can be minimized, but if we lose that area like last night, then we can't compete.

The pressure they put on us I thought unnerved our blokes, while our tackling pressure on them was disappointing...how many tackles did we miss?

On a brighter note, I thought at least some of our younger blokes stood up and contributed, Doughty, Johncock, Bode were all pretty good. At least now we now the standard we have to reach as a team. It's only round 4. We can either roll over and die or build from this and make the finals. Let's hope it's the latter.

Very fustrating game to watch. Absolute shocker, which they hopefully got out of the system. Essendon were deserving winners.

Like ant I was wondering why we departed from the structure which was giving us success. Stenglein should have started either of Hird, Caracella or JJ, as the Dons have plenty of damaging players. Why didn't we start with a tall forward line when it was known Essendon had Wellman out? In the 2nd half, they went for a smaller forward line with Bunj @ FF.

Also, when things weren't going well early, why was the bench not used. Edwards should have been taken off, as he was having one of those nights (although the 2nd running too far violation was tough). Also, why put Hart on Lloyd when we know he has had problems in the past - took a while to shift Smart.

Unlike last week the 1 percenters were nowhere near as good - ie. tackling, shepherding, knock on, etc, In fact the team stuff was poor, as was the use in the forward line. Why didn't we swing all our best midfielders into the centre square in the 2nd half. I could go on, but wont, as best to let the game rest...

Positives: The game is over. Also, Johnson continued his consistent form. Doughty again another 4 quarter effort & Johncock looks the goods.

Bomber Dave - you must have been sitting next to me, as that is exactly how I saw the game. Schell (in particular) and Fitzgerald are going to struggle against real top quality defenders, which the previous three opponents didn't have.

It was not a total disaster for us. To lose by 41 points after being 10 goals down with plenty of time left showed the will to fight things out. Plenty of sides in the comp would have been overrun at that stage.

I was sitting side on to that Edwards "run too far", and if he ran one and a half goalsquares....

Johncock and Doughty look like great prospects.

Until we can cope mentally when the chips are down it wont matter who is playing where.

Essendon have the wood on us, and the 7 iron and the sand wedge .....etc etc

Scotty Welshes "Mark of the Year" contender, Johncock and Doughtys grit were a few things that made me smile and PrettyboyFllyods OOBOTF on the final siren...I nearly forgot :D
