Crows v Magpies

Well I know we have lost a couple of games & a few important players are out, but we should still expect the Crows to win this weekend - after all it is at football park where we have not lost to an interstate team - be positive guys & gals! Yes Collingwood are one of the better teams going around, but is not like we have been decimated by injury like Carlton. The team showed in the 2nd half of the Weagles game that they can play fantastic football if their mind is on the job - so if we play 4 quarters of good football this weekend we will beat the Pies as we are on our home turf.

Matchups
Well Collingwood are likely to play at least 3 tall forwards - Tarrant, Rocca & Fraser (don't worry about Cummings as he is crap at the moment). I reckon Bassett is the man for Tarrant. The hound has gone off the boil a bit lately & has been spending too much energy going ******* at the umpire (yes I know the likes of McLaren are ******* too, but you get nowhere mimicking the white maggots - they are going to screw us regardless). So it is time for him to recapture some of that early season form. Kenny has been doing a sound job at CHB, so I would give him Pebbles for most of the game. However, for the first 10 minutes I would start Benny Hart on him & run him all over the ground so he is buggered for the rest of the game. Marsh's only decent game last year was on Fraser, so I would give him another go. On the small forwards I would play Stiffy on Leon Davis to show to the Pies supporters a truely great new aboriginal talent. That leaves probably Crowell to join Hart on the other Collingwood forwards. Crowell needs to be told to pull his finger out or he will be never seen again in the tri-colours.

Up forward we need to stick with Perrie across HF as he can take a few grabs ... but for goodness sake Jars why aren't you working on his kicking! The Birdman after doing his best impression of superman last week needs to be told that he has to perform like that most weeks & not return back to being Clark Kent this week. I expect he will be matched up by the under-rated Clement who got off at the tribunal (& I'm not suggesting you were involved Eddie). I would go for Beinke in a pocket if he his fit (to come in for the injured Massie) or Schell if he is not. Then we need plenty of crumbers & forward pressure from Roo, Bode & Edwards - who would be also part of the midfield rotation.

In the midfield Licuria is likely to get McLeod, who needs to play a 4 quarter effort - if he plays to his potential he is capable of 50+ possessions. Stengelin should get the job on Buckley with Massie assisting of the bench. He always seems to burn against us, so Gary please no shootouts like with Cuz last week. That leaves the likes of Goodwin v O'Bree, Lockyer v Doughty, Scotland v Gallagher. The bonus though is Clarke should give us 1st use of the ball against the new-improved Steve McKee with Biglands also ganging up against him.

C'mon Crows - I'm expecting a win this week & nothing less.

Good read Kane....good to see you reckon we're a good chance to win, not surprisingly I don't share your optimism :p

Anyway, in defence, I'm not sure if Bassett's the man for Tarrant, he's got great speed off the mark and the Hound could be struggling to keep up. I like Hart on Tarrant and maybe play Bassett up forward like in the second half last Sunday. Other matchups seem okay.

We could really have trouble scoring goals on Sunday against one of the best defence's in the AFL...we don't have a great forward line at the best of times and take out Welshy and Stevo and it's looking decided thin and not very dangerous. Perrie will give his all and Bassett could be an option but I don't see either taking the game by the scruff of the neck. Birdman was sensational last week but Clement seems the perfect matchup for him, and we all know that Brett isn't exactly our most consistent player...

We must dominate in the midfield to be any chance, and there's a possibility of that occuring, hopefully Goody, Macca, Bodey, Roo and the boys can be switched on from the get go and play 4 quarters of hard, tough footy. Unfortunately, Bucks has been in mediocre form of late and that means only one thing, he's due for a big one! He loves shredding us to pieces and I have no doubt he'll return to the stellar form he displayed earlier in the year.

This is a very big game, win this, and 2 more home games await us...we'll have key players returning and we could string a few together. Lose it, and we potentially lose touch with the upper echelon of the 8...c'mon boys, let's fire up!

Pies by 22 points ;)

Stengelin should get the job on Buckley with Massie assisting of the bench.
Whoops - meant to say Nelson, as sadly I don't think Massie will make it on the park this week.

cheered up a little!

Ah well, I have cheered up a little about this week. We did put in a good performance in the last half on the weekend, hopefully we can take that form into this weeks game. We are missing a couple of key players, but we still have the same number of boys on the field as collingwood and if we all play well, there is no reason why we cant win.

I agree Bassett needs to stop cracking up at the umpire everytime something goes against him. I know they are usually wrong, but he can't change there decision so he should just get on with it.

I am trying to smile! I think we just might get over the line this week. It is at our home ground so the Crows by 15 points.

Go Crows

Well thought through Kane, but the only way i can see us beating Collingwood is if the midfield really dominates & pump enough ball in to the forward line to kick a winning score,
if only Marsh & Biglands could stand up & take some big pack marks, if so crows by 3 points

Good to hear that Smart & Johnson are trying to do everything in their power to play this week - perhaps inspired by Goody's effort last week. Smarty could be a suprise option for Tarrant & Sugar's hard-ball getting ability is important to our team structure. Also, Bodey & Edwards both need to step up as they have been a bit quiet lately. Keep thinking positive - we can & should win against the Pies! :)

Interesting to see the Crow slant on things, not too far from my own thinking. One point my Crow friends bring up is coaching, especially the dreaded huddle. We have been pretty spot on with our clearances this year, so if Ayres gives us an opening there, we'll take it.

I see the Pies as having adequate talent spread adequately over the ground. The Crows have that mountain of talent in the middle but injury etc has perhaps left you thinner at the ends. You'll probably spank us at the bounces, but our organization may let us make up for this in other parts of the ground. Of course I'm tipping the Pies, but it should be close and exciting.

Teams

Interesting I thought the game was on Sunday ... but I suppose I should trust the date as this is from the official AFL website. ;) I would like to see Beinke come in to the side to give us some more marking strength up forward (particulary with Welsh & Stevens out) - which would mean Shirley, Ladhams & Mattner to miss. Good to see Sugar back in as he apparantly did everything asked of him at training. Smarty on the other hand was obviously not 100% leaving the track early, so he has been given another week.

Cyclops - I don't mind using it as an occasional surpise tactic, but doing it regularly in a game for every kickin is a worry.

Doesn't look like Beinke, along with Shirley & Gallagher (dropped) will play for the Crows this weekend. 2 changes were made: Johnson & Mattner (for his debut) for Massie & Gallagher. IMO, Beinke would be better value up forward than Ladhams.

If the Crows play man-on-man in the kickouts we are going to get hammered.

Hopefully too, they don't revert back to what they were doing last week on the kickouts and kicking 50 metres straight up the field to Matthew Clarke, who would not take the mark, and the ball usually went to a West Coast player.

Cheers

Looks like Tarrant is probably going to miss with a hip injury. This is a huge bonus for the Crows, as I reckon he is the forward we would have most difficulty matching up on (ie. v Bassett or Hart). Even if he does play he won't be 100% & considering his speed on the lead is a huge attribute, it would make it easier to hold him. Feeling good about this game to keep our top-4 spot.

Well, Taz is out so you guys may be in with a small chance. ;)

Seriously, sounds like it's gonna be a good, close match. Hope Bucks can regain some form and help make this an exciting contest.

more confident each day!

Stevo for club champion in 2002

Well with each day I get more confident about this weeks game. Even without Stevo :( , Welshy & Smart I think we can win this week. Great to see the Johnson is back we really missed his bite around the packs. He should really add a lot to our side.

Collingwood are a great side and we will certainly not have it easy, but I just think that we have the players to match them, particularly in the midfield. With McLeod, Goodwin & Roo along with Clarke and Biglands giving us first look at the footy, I think that is where the game will be won. We are perhaps lacking in our forward line, but if those boys run into our forward 50 they will help Burton & Perrie etc. Our defence is solid and with the footy gods giving us a repreive with Tarrant out, I think that with Bass on Rocca and Kenny on Fraser we have those two dangerous tall forwards covered. I would put Stinga on Buckley from the begining of the game. A lot has been said about Cousins last week, but in the end he wasn't the reason we lost the game. It was our poor first half. But I would thinkt that we would cover Buckley early because he always tends to have a good game against us.

All in all it should be a terrific game. The weather is a bit dodgy this morning but tomorrow is ment to be fine so that will help us. My prediction is for the Crows to win by 23 points and consolidate 4th spot.

Go You Crows!!!!!!!!!!
