I think there is something about players not perofrming in their 2nd game after long injury lay off.:(

You're probably right about Carey in and Burns out.

Ladhams would obviously take Burns place and the pressure should be on him to take some of the load off of Welshy second up.

Well we were ripped off 10 points by the goal umpire for starters (ie. you were paid a goal that was a point & Dogga's goal was called a point). Then go back & count the goals which the Cats got through soft free kicks & compare to the Crows. Roo was ripped off the ball in the goal square - play on. He does the same & as a free paid against him. Where's the consistency? Welshy should have got another shot at goal after been whacked by that thug Milburn. Do you want me to go on...

If you want to get really picky then how about Biglands virtually shoving Milburn into the ground with both hand firmly planted in his back, pushing him out of the contest. Biglands then proceeds to take the grab and kick the winning goal. As blatant as they come but nothing done about it.

But nice theory anyway. How much did you think you should have won by?

Just watched that very mark you're talking about on tape, and Biglands held ground, but didn't push him in the back. Another error in your theory is that it wasn't the winning goal - it was already sewn up by then. That goal was only the icing on the cake.

Geelong benefited by two bum goal umpiring decisons apart fom many individual field umpiring decisions. The assassination of Scotty Welsh by Milburn was a disgrace and wasn't even penalized by a free kick.

I thought we should have won by at least 5 to 6 goals if the umpiring had been neutral. However, at the end of the day, neither you nor I can change it so we'll just have to move on, won't we. ;)

Looked like it to me, surely. The legs of a lot of Geelong players just gave out right around crunch time in the final term, after the Crows grabbed the lead.

I don't think the players can have any excuse for that-- although there were other reasons as to why the Cats lost and (conversely) why the Crows won. Ten rounds into the season, the players shouldn't be having issues with match fitness, and should be able to see the game out. This goes for our senior players and our young guns alike.

But great win by the Crows yesterday. Like it was said on this thread, nothing fancy, just a hard, workmanlike effort. The Crows just wanted it more, that's all, and it showed...

Good luck to you guys for the rest of the season.
Again I stress I only saw the first quarter and a bit, but if what I saw then is going to be your tactic against the top teams, well.........good luck.
Very sapping type of game.

Actually I think you're the first to raise just how much their flooding tactics would take out of them. I was pretty confident at the start of the last quarter that we could run over them for that reason.

As you said, it's a very sapping type of game.

Might win a game but will never win a flag.

I know this is not the thread for this, but I am not a fan of large unlimited interchange benches.
I don't think we should go back to two or even no interchange, but some sort of cap on how many we can do should be introduced.
If a player or more are deemed to be injured, then extra "reserves" should be allowed to "join" the team. Perhaps if you do this, then an AFL doctor should be involved and the player forced to have a spell the following week or something.
That would stop cheating, and at the same time fix the reason for large interchange benches in the first place. Last year Hawthorn finished a game with only 16 or 17 fit players.

With these large interchange benches, first the game sped up, then we got multi-player tagging (ie rotate two or three on a Buckley or a McLeod).
We then got flooding, and now we are going towards attacking and defending in numbers, soccer style, but in a much larger arena.
Couple that with the "return" of intensity in the tackles with bigger bodies and I shudder to think what players will be demanded to do in a few years.
Injuries galore.

Was at Geelong on Sunday sitting about 10 rows back behind the point post at the left of your TV screen. A few comments

1. For 2 adults and 4 students it cost us $191 and they were the cheapest seats. Could have walked up to the ground and paid $16.50 each but would have had to stand for the entire day. The Geelong season ticket holder next to me paid $70 for 8 matches. I've seen better scoreboards in the parklands, no replay screen, a hotchpotch of stands and the surrounds of the stadium only dirt, not even bitumen.

2. Got on well with the Geelong season ticket holders around us. Spent a lot of time trying to explain their prejudices about Adelaide away. The Melbourne media spouts anti-Adelaide messages so often that a lot of supporters believe it eg. was told they would not come to a football match at AAMI stadium because they could expect to have their car trashed.

3. Heard Eddie on the radio on the way into Melbourne on Saturday morning. Said he was lucky to get back to Melbourne in one piece ( but perhaps he was talking about his altercation with Rex Hunt at the airport ), that the banners at AAMI stadium on Friday night were so bad they couldn't show any on TV and that the Advertiser's report about the match was laughable and childish.

4. About our friend the goal umpire. He came down our end for the second half and "warmed up" whilst waiting for the game to re-commence ie started in the middle of the goal and ran towards the point post as if judging whether the ( imaginary) ball was a point or not. Then ran back to the goal post, straddled the line and looked up and down the opposite goal post then ran to the other goal post and did the same. All I can say is that the practice was wasted as even the Geelong supporters agreed that Dogga's point was a goal and also he gave another point for us as out of bounds on the full.

5. I'm sick of seeing teams who cannot win employ flooding tactics to limit their loss.

Cheers,

a.j.

My favourite umpiring decision was when Biglands got the ball out of the ruck was not even close to being tackled and a holding the ball decision was paid

It was pure comedy.

Milburn getting away with his kidney punch is unbelievable to me.

haydyn Kennedy always reams us.

I also loved when Bassett got in the way of Graham who kneed him in the back and then got second touch to the ball and was paid a mark. Dodgy.

Ah yes I'd forgotten about that one. Absolute shocker.

Please forgive my ignorance but what actually happened at the airport ???

According to my information, Eddie tackled Rex Hunt at Adelaide Airport as to why he didn't watch the Footy Show.

Rex replied that it wasn't the Footy Show but the Collingwood Show and he wasn't going to watch that tripe.

It was then on for young and old.

Rex does seem to have a real chip on his shoulder about Channel 9 since Channel 7 lost the telecast rights

Cheers,

Is this post going to disappear like the one you posted last night about "Did the umpires on Sunday barrack for Geelong?" ;)

That was a good post. What the hell happened to it??

Rex isn't alone, in that regard.

Anyone watch "The Great Footy Debate" on ESPN last night, where the topic was Will the saturation of television kill the AFL? Both Sandy Roberts and Dipper sounded like bitter old men who have it in for the current TV consortium ever since Seven no longer have the broadcast rights, so it's not just Rex Hunt.

Regardless, and as much as I tend to defend Eddie on BigFooty, and under the proviso that if that incident at Adelaide Airport actually happened, Eddie went just a bit over the top, IMO.

If he thinks what Rex said was objectionable, he should see half the things that are said on here about him, Collingwood, "The Footy Show", etc...
