I like the matured and balanced views of Timmy on 5AA today "Port lacked intensity..just trying out players in different positions... Bergman learnt fast that he can't Wristle with the big forward but set off them and come in to spoil, played well after the initial 1:1 loss. .. Sweet lost in the middle..no help.The trial says more about the Crows needing to show something and win after 7 yrs of no final.. more intensity and desperation .." Not like the other Clown getting real excited, up and about... winning the Simulation cup...declaring" Crows will finish higher than Ports.. taking bets on air" He has said this at a couple of years now.
Personally, trial game / preseason game are for sides to try things out and see what works and make adjustments and go again with not much consequences except may be supporters unrest! This is what smart coaches should do. Even the game against St Kilda, I won't be too stressed if we get smashed if we we can see promising signs something we work through shine through. We learnt more from defeat than walk in the park victory as they are so many variables in a game e.g. Oppo lack intensity, etc.
I will reserve my adjustments at least after the first couple of games to get a read of the real Port. If go badly, say after Round 5, I would conclude that the players aren't going to honour the Coach with the Ultimate sent off. I would install Carr to start enforcing the new regime and make players play for their futures!
