cupido in the last few weeks

Easy to throw stones when we're losing huh? I think you'll find that Cupido has had quite a few buddies in the past few weeks.

Reynolds? The luckiest guy in the AFL right now having played all 9 games for us. He is clearly not up to it. In Peverill and McVeigh you have another two ... and they are more experienced at AFL level than Cupido.

Also ... how can you expect Cupido to be our main focal point?? You forget that we have missed Lloyd in that timeframe you mention ... and it just so happens that he is the best forward in the game.

But please don't let the facts get in the way ...

Cupido has just really dissapointed me over the last few weeks. I'm normally one of the first on big footy supporting a bomber when critized. Read alot of my posts on the board from last year if you want proof. I just think with lloyd out, one could expect a little more from damien, that's all.

I'm not expecting him to be the main focal point of the Essendon foward line. I am expecting more then 3 kicks in a game of football.

The fact is Cupido has been soundley beaten over the last two weeks. Yes i am aware he kicked 3 goals v the hawks. Two of those goals came in the last 15 minutes, extending the lead from 41 points to 53. He went missing for the better half of 3 and a bit quarters that night.

When we've needed someone to win a game for us v the Hawks and v the Power, he's hasn't been around. I realise he's a young player, and a missing coleman medalist would make it alot harder on the team, but i just hope he doesn't turn this into a regular occurence, and becomes one of those players that goes missing when the going gets tough. I hope he proves me wrong next time.

Cupido will never be a huge accumalator (sp?) of stats. It`s not his style. He is not the crash and bash style of player either. He is there to compliment the Solomons and Johnsons in finishing off their hard bullocking work. Mick Long was similar in his early career at Essendon, not getting much of it, but when he did....game splitting , match winning. Long , Rioli and Cupido do not need much of it to hurt opposistion teams.
Stats, like coaches are very over rated.

I'd like to see him work a bit harder off the ball, sometimes he just hangs out waiting for the handball when he really should be shepharding - i think he's a bit worried about taking bumps though with his reconned shoulder, so that's understandable.

He's so bloody exciting when he has the footy though.

Not wishing to blow myself, but that just about sums the boy up and the day he had today.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but his first 3 attempts were behinds, again he got goals when the game was won, I want to see him produce when the game is iin the balance.

What game were you watching peanut?? The West Coast had closed within 9 points and looked to have momentum up before Cupido's match-winning tackle and conversion. His second goal a couple of minutes later was just icing on the cake.

Cupido would be the first to admit that he didn't have a good game, but when he kicks 2 crucial goals (in the context of the game), he has done his job.

Goals kicked by the boy sealed it and gave me my money to boot.
Cousins was on his way to set up another wce foray, enter D.Cupido, goodnight wce, home you go.

Please check Anzac day.

I am not too sure why people have bagged him at all this year. When he turned up a lot of people (Don and non-Don supporters) were saying why did we take him and McPhee in that three way trade for Cara.

Well guess what: it was one hell of a great trade!!!!!

Cupido & McPhee have only played up to 10 games for us but have proven their worth. So Cupes is not consistent every week. How many games did he play for Bris in the past two seasons? How bad was his shoulder injury? How much worth was Cara when you combine these two against his one cost?

Gee wiz give the guy a full year of footy and confidence and see what happens. Also not every goal Matt gets wins us games or even comes when we need them but that is not the point. It is a team game and players like Cupes only need a few chances to make it worthwhile. Check out Boris for example!

I rated Cupido very highly at the start of the year but I have now seen the light. It just goes to show there is no justice in football when that ****y showpony kicks 2 game sealing goals [including one from a high tackle]. If you had watched the game you would have realised Wirrpunda pansied him. He will be exposed soon enough.

I agree with that. I've always been a big wrap for Cupido ever since he was drafted to Brisbane (and living in Brisbane I saw more of him in the 2's than anyone else) and he was a show pony even in the Brisbane seconds.

When he came to Essendon he seemed to be a slightly better team player, but since he kicked 5 on ANZAC day he's become the same player I saw up in Brisbane. Wirrpunda uses any chance to run off his opponent and set up the Eagles going forward, and Cupido let him go. He needed to stick with him going up field, and leave Lloydy in the forward line 1 out against McIntosh. Cupido's long left foot kicks would have been brilliant when the Bombers were rebounding forward.

I think Cupido is a brilliant player with a brillaint kick, but he needs to play more defensive that he does. Opposing clubs will know to run off Cupido more now after Wirrpunda did it as did Hayden from Freo.

Our forward line looks so potent this year largly to the fact Cupido is there. Last year our higest goal kicker behind lloyd was Lucas with around 25 I think and that was from 20plus matches. Cupido has already kicked 19 goals from 9 games and hasn't been held goaless in a game yet, if form stays true and we play finals he will finish with around 50 goals for the season which would be a huge effort.

Even against the eagles where he didn't have great game he managed 5 shots on goal (i'd be happy with that every week)

It's very hard to be consistent ball winner from a forward pocket but Cupido is doing his job contributing to the scoreboard in EVERY match.
