I nearly cried watching that PottSie2 :o ...it goes to show you how far backwards we have walked...its a ****en disgrace

It's amazing isn't it.

- Forward Pressure
- Buddy deep in the forward line
- A crumber at Buddy's feet

Apparently that won't win us a GF though anymore.

Just looked like a highlight clip to me, surprisingly full of good bits of play. Maybe you could make a disaster clip of 2008 and compare it to a highlight clip from 2011? Maybe use the Melbourne game to show how our forward pressure has disappeared since 08?

A highlight clip it may be, but it highlights the glaring difference between our gameplan then, and now.

I might go back to my 2008 Finals DVD pack to see how devastating we were. Buddy's box ... Buddy's hotspot ... arrrrr, those were the days.

amen to that brother....our forward line is a ****en disaster, honestly other clubs must love the way we set-up...we have talent and use that talent up the ground creating 'presses' and the like...

last year when we started to win games, we got it straight onto the boot long into the forward line....

it is a simple game, made ridiculousy complicated by people seeking to make robots out of mere mortals...

Yeah, that gameplan was a beauty in 09' and 10', that exact gameplan, any titbits of different opposition strategies in said clip?

Wow.

From a 2 minute highlight reel, people are extrapolating exactly how Clarkson has changed EVERYTHING in the gameplan for the worse.

Who needs to see set-ups, running patterns, or views of the whole ground?

Look, it's all there! Cyril was doing good stuff! For two whole minutes!!! That proves everything I say about Clarkson is true!

Some people seriously need to get the jaundiced glasses off.

Let me have my nostalgia please, as tainted as it may be. I'm unashamedly a fan of a regular forward line that contains a 100 goal a year leading forward with the best forward crumbling option in existence.

Forgive me for being over our Benny Hill forward setup over the last season and a half.

By all means mix it up with silk in there, but let's not forget we have 2 goal kickers capable of 80+ goals each ...... if only we had a gameplan that allowed or instructed them to lead.

quoted for truth...

heres another idea lets move all our forwards up to the oppositions forward 50m, then when the ball comes out, all our forwards run forward and kick in hope...oh wait :o

OK lets keep playing him until his hammy's come off the bone...you meat head!

Kipster, I do know a little about injury management, I'm a physio with 12 years experience including several footy clubs. This sort of injury is quite easily managed - it's bread and butter stuff, and I'd be very surprised if Cyril doesn't get back to playing most of his time in the midfield successfully within weeks. It's all good - have some faith in our medical department!:)

OK...Changa thats good news, however the young man has had plenty of problems so far....if he is like his Dad who had a history of them, assuming genetics come into it? then we should manage his work load better...

all good :thumbsu:

All this talk about having a traditional forward line are great. But we have to take into account the game has changed significantly.... ie forward and defefensive presses. You cant always lead in a forward line with 15 defenders. Lets not be too simplistic....

Cyril should not be playing in the midfield, his body isn't made for it....the way we are going Clarko will **** him up and he will retire young due to his hammy's...:thumbsd:

Great post, Kipster, Clarko's stuffing up Cyril!

.

YOGA

Cyril needs to give Ryan Giggs a call in manchester.

He had chronic hammy problems and then he took up yoga. He is 36 and still playing at an elite level. hammies where great for years after almost ending his career.

Clarko did some observation with united before his hawk days. SHould get it sorted for some advice from Giggs. Very similar physiques and players.

Most teams who have quality have key forwards make them LEAD. Cloke, Pav, Hall, Riewolt x2, the list goes on. Our mob stay put and ask for the ball to be delivered on top of their head or run towards goal hoping for the over the back cheapie. They try out wrestle their opponent instead of leading towards the ball carrier. It's a disastrous set-up. I understand the theory in that if they don't get it the ball isn't as deep in the forward 50 and we can't as easily apply the press.
Why don't we go and ask any opposition coach where we should play Franklin, full forward or on the wing/ruck roving? Why do Collingwood's forwards play predominantly as forwards rarely if ever moving into their back half. When was the last time Riewolt played ruck rover or on the wing? or Cloak or Dawes for that matter?
Play Franklin deep inside the 50, get him leading while Rioli at his feet and Roughy as the alternative target and I guarantee our forward line will be the most dangerous in the league, I absolutely will guarantee it.

Probably not anything different to what has already been said, but the caption on the picture of this herald sun article, talking about injuries, reads
Cyril Rioli faces possibly three weeks out with a hamstring injury

The bold part indicates it is simply speculation so could probably have put any number in there. And if he does miss two matches, then because of the bye, that is technically three weeks out but only two games.

Just adding it anyway.

I played soccer for 22 years (including State League level) before the hammies (and lack of allowable physicality) frustrated me out of the game.

A mate talked me into playing AFL and I did yoga for an hour before every game...........not one injury.......in 5 years straight of playing on ball, forward, back pocket and Ruck!. Rodney Yee - Yoga Conditioning for Athletes was the DVD (Still only $13). It focussed on core strength and flexibility. I would reccomend it to anyone who wants to add a bit of longevity to their game. Do yourself a favour Cyril. It also helped you to focus which was an added bonus.
