Very quiet on here this morning. Any match reports from the weekend? I can honestly say that Mount Lilydale could be the coldest place in the ammo's.

Already gave my match report.... but I'll put in my club report for BHN....

BHN.........

Ground - Short but fairly wide, good cover of grass but not the prettiest looking surface. With all that rain it held up very well and never got muddy. 5/10

Rooms - Big enough for everyone, good showers. Bench and exercise bike provided. 8-10

Canteen - I didn't get a chance to buy anything as I was standing in the rain all day, but from what I hear they do a pretty good job. 8-10

Bar - Nice and warm! View of the ground is great for huddling spectators... good choice of grog. Has everyone moved to $3.50 beers now? 8-10

Attitude - Everything is running smoothly down at BHN and they are a great bunch to play against. 9-10 (1 point off for giving out VB as the players awards...this practice should be banned! Draught as a minimum! :))

Still $3 stubbies at NB.
Love the VB prizes at BHN! VB = the Very Best.

Mount Lilydale

Ground - Faily Long and wide. Great coverage of grass but was very wet due to the rain. 7/10

Rooms - Not bad for portables. Very thin walls between the 2 rooms. Heard one of the best half time sprays given to a team. Rooms 3/10 (WOULD HAVE RECIEVED A HIGHER MARK HAD THE SHOWERES BEEN WARM)
Half time spray 10/10

Canteen - Good selection, BBQ after the the game topped it off nicely. 9/10

Bar - Good bar with the stock standard selections. With Melbourne's being the choice of beer for the awards. 7/10

Attitude - Seem like a good bunch of blokes. 8/10

Not sure who rated the West Brunswick ground but they get a bix cross:mad::thumbsdown::thumbsdown: for the showers on the weekend. Mud was everywhere and a luke warm 1cm trickle of water does not do a lot to get the mud off or to warm up.

Was The ground muddy in general or was it just a centre wicket issue?

Seems early for mud to be prevailent.

Waz, The strange look of our surface at Elgar has to do with the 2 different grasses.
There is the good covering of cooch grass all the way up the centre corridor which BHN planted 5 years ago; then there is the darker patchy crap the council planted repeatedly over the years and now just sits in clumps here and there on the outer reaches of the ground.

The cooch is definitely the way to go, even though it turns yellow during winter. It won't die off in summer and does not need much water at all. Trick is not to cut it too short though. Rolling is better for it during winter.

Yes... It was better than I expected after seeing it during the cricket season.... If both grounds were in the same condition, would you rather play on the one next to the creek? Its a little bigger?

It has a turf wicket in the middle similar to Kew. When is get wet is becomes boggy in the middle. The cobras away rooms would have to be the smallest in the comp.

don't forget our original poster abba lonie.:p

Waz, our coach looked to congratulate your coach after the siren but could not locate him amongst your celebrations. Please pass on his congratulations.

What about the President's Cup (yes I know some idiots with sticks use that name)? Given that Simon Evans was instrumental in reviving BHN from a basket case when they entered the VAFA and this year Kotsa has taken the club even further off field; combined with your excellent administration work over the last few years; it would be fitting appreciation of those people.
In both cases it has been a fantastic effort to turn the clubs around and gain respect of their peers both on and off the ground.

Hopefully we will see both clubs competing for the cup in higher grades as the years roll on.

Sounds like a great name for the cup. or can call it the Wasta cup.....(After Waz, Kosta and half of our possessionas on Sat...)

RC had a bloke who umped the ressies for years"'Johnny" something and from what I read on here BHN have just lost a club timekeeper what about combining the 2 surnames.

That was Johnny Salter.(At RC) One hell of an awesome bloke, gentleman and scholar......what was the BHN blokes name again? (Dont mean to be disrespectful)

If both grounds were in similar condition we would prefer to play on the creek side oval. It is actually only 7 metres longer. Just looks a fair bit bigger. Optical illusion.
The ground we are on is our traditional home. The creek one was originally occupied by BH Adelphians. It is only this year that the council has put artificial grass covering on that ovals pitch. Remember the huge mound of sand that was there in previous years.

If the council moved the goal posts back to the train fence the creek side oval would actually be longer than City Oval (BH Hawks). That is just a dream though. We are talking about an institution who have made an art of doing as little as possible for local football clubs.

Daryl Brunning.
Son played for us then moved on to another club.
Daryl stayed and was our team manager, Club Member and time keeper for many years. In later years when cancer and strokes took their toll he was still doing timekeeping for both games. And remained our Member right up until the end.

It would be a fitting honour to name it after two blokes who worked hard for their clubs without being players. The true life blood of our sort of clubs.

Why not toss a coin to see who's name is first Brunning / Salter....... Salter / Brunning.
Then get it struck ready to be awarded for our return fixture at KB.

Definitely don't want Kotsa's name on the thing. Have you seen our website. His face is on more things than David Beckham's.

Agree with the preference for cooch. I get the impression that councils (and the contractors responsible for the horticultural preparation of grounds) are more interested in appearance than the actual performance of the grass as a surface for playing sport.

He's done OK in the past, but struggled on Saturday. Silly from our boys to mouth off but I'm amazed a man of his dimensions hasn't built up a thicker skin over the years.

Fair call, but I am one who can understand your guys mothing off at an umpire....took me one letter from ther VAFA and constant pestering from one un-named Prez to shut me up....sort of!

Anyway, Brian ain't all bad......and don't hang it on fatties....:D

I rekon the Salter cup for ressies (As he LOVED the two's and would be truly honored even if it is "only" for the two's) and Brunning for the seniors???

I'm gonna start a favourite 'Tuggerism moment' theme.

One of the funnier things I saw him do was wear a fishing type jacket for his flight to Japan a few years ago. He reckoned it was great coz it had so many pockets, he could carry a lot in it for his travelling and flying. Set himself up as a walking Swiss Army knife.
Problem one- he could never remember which pocket he had which item in.
Problem two- the jacket bore a remarkable resemblance to an commando style flat jacket, so airport security everywhere kept wanting to cavity search him for terrorist weapons.
Great time saver, not.

I like the idea.
We each get 2 shots, twice a year, at winning a cup.
We could start to sound like some of those AFL teams who have more cups up for grabs than a juggler at the Dalton factory.

I give it a tick though.:thumbsu:

The individual who had a shot at us better built people is rather horizontally challenged and obviously suffering from girth envy.

There was a rumor going around that BHN's reserves coach was being reported... Its not like Brian to take offence, and I didn't see it, but apprently he copped a fair spray at 3 qtr time.

Round 7 Tips
AP vs NB - AP by 70 Points, North Brunny just don't have the cattle to compete at the moment.
STHo vs RC - RC by 4 Goals. RC just had a close one vs BHN which doesn't say much for there prospects of competing with the top sides but should account for Syndal.
WB vs EP - WB by a lot .... say 15 Goals
MtL vs BC - Mt Lilydale by 3 Goals in a very close tight contest.
SFX vs SM - SFX by 8 Goals
Kew vs BHN - Kew by 90 points. BHN just don't have the midfield or forward line (Penny not included) to be competitive with Kew.
