He really should though. Seems content with playing mediocre footy and spruiking cushy media deals. Definitely someone who needs a challenge.

true, just cant see it happening, if the pies slip on the ladder and we stay top 4 ya never know, we have extra $, eddie would be peaking.

love to have thomas. he would never leave the pies though

This times 1000

I can not see a Victorian born player, drafted by Collingwood with strong marketing, advertising and promotional links to a Victorian market leaving as a free agent for an Adelaide club.

We would have to offer crazy money, Kurt Tippett money on steroids like 1.5 mill a year. Very doubtful.

Anybody got a list of likely free agents for next year? We should be a big player.

The clubs who have gone hard at Cloke, Swan, Pendlebury and co have succeeded in placing inflationary pressure on their salary cap. It has cost them Wellingham and Dawes and meant Beams signed for a pittance. Would be great if there was more spillage. We should go hard.

Just to point out, irrespective of my username, that it didn't really cost us Dawes and Wellingham. Dawes was contracted for a further 2 years but was told his opportunities would be limited so in the best interest of all parties he seeked opportunities elsewhere. Wellingham also was offered a contract but wanted to return home. Had nothing to do with "spillage".
Not so sure

Rumor had it that the player / coach relationship was not ideal this year

As for this "rumour" it is exactly that, a rumour. There was talk all year about this by "experts" but it was proven to be false and not accurate at all.

Daisy Thomas in all likelihood is most likely to remain at Collingwood, as a face of the club, however, if he was to leave I seriously could not see him shifting to West Lakes or any other interstate side.

I don't want to get in a big thing here, but you're being pretty naive. The cap pressure obviously forced Wellingham out. He got an average offer, there was no money left and is a WA boy. Decision made. If you don't think the Pies maneuvered (cleverly) to get Dawes off their books I don't know what to tell you.

Did it seem he went backwards this year? I only saw about 8 or 9 pies games this year but he seemed a bit non existent at times lacked flair and excitement he has had in the past? Played a good game against us mind you.

Maybe is his lack of hair

Friend of mine played against him for a couple of years before he was drafted and apparently he was pretty ordinary at the time. not really relevant but i just wanted to share that little tidbit.

You mean under 12's?

Yeah, that's really relevant.

Would be quite eerie for me if True.

Back in 2009 I named our Rotty pup Kurt, after Tippett.

Last year we got a Staffy pup, she is black and white and looks like a lil cow. I thought Daisy would be an apt name. It was not untill a few days later I told Mrs Geoffa that part of my thought process in that name was that she was black and white and I liked Dale Thomas as a footballer.

She had said that I could not name another pet after a sportsman. Our fishtank has a Warnie, Haydos and Pigeon in it.

Again, without wanting to go tit for tat, Wellingham received an offer on what was realistically his worth. With so many good players on the list, the cap needs to be managed accordingly and there was room for Wellingham if he wanted to stay. He obviously received a better offer elsewhere and one that was able to return him home to WA. So he took it. We didn't move him on just to clear cap space. He was still wanted but there was a limit to what our pay structure looks like in comparison to other clubs'.

As for Dawes he was contracted. It may have been "clever" with the way we maneuvered his clearance but again at the end of the day we did not need to offload him for the sake of it.

In the end, it did create some cap space for us by moving these two players on which will prove handy but it was hardly "spillage" as was quoted in the original post.
