Adding a 'borderline elite' player is good in theory, but the money to give up to get this guy would be well over what he is worth IMO. If he was to become elite, like he has shown in one season, sure maybe it's worth it to lure him here and get the rewards. The space we have now though is great to have, and should be used to try and get others here, but we also need to remember we have a lot of young talent ourselves, and we can't go throwing all our money at a borederline elite. In a few years Danger will be worth as much money as anyone else in the league.

Danger is already on about 700k I believe, so he won't go up too much, probably about 150k. But Thompson will become a veteran soon I suspect and that should help us out. You are right though, money does need to be put aside for Crouch, Sloane, Walker, Jacobs (not that I think he'd leave if he had a slightly better offer), Talia and co.
I do however believe that in 2014 if a player like Thomas is available and willing, that he may be the type of player who might tip us into premiership and this shouldn't be discounted.

I think he'd be a great addition to the side, but it's not as if he isn't already in a really strong midfield, and IMO he hasn't gone to the level everyone expected of him other than for one season. I'm happy to go hard in free agency, so long as if we're spending $750,000+ the player is already elite, as that is an elite player wage currently. (Bar a few players in expansion clubs/KT)

Disagree with those saying he's overrated. Just the sort of player we need. We've got plenty of inside grunt players who lack pace, flair. He'd compliment our existing midfielders perfectly.

Probably wouldn't chuck Crouch into that group until he demonstrates he's even up to the level. Commanding big money is at least a couple of years off, if not three or more. Rate of change on lists would allow them to seriously revisit again in a year or so, not wise to be planning for it now.

Witts is painfully slow. Watch an old horror movie where the "mummy" is chasing someone...that's Witts on a good day. Don't get me wrong though, he has some good attributes but I'm not sure he will make it at AFL level that some people have trumpeted
