Re: Where Immortal Stands

Soulja Boy takes "Worst Rapper Alive" for me.
i hate this guys music aswell. im sure there are a few on youtube trying to act hard or something that might actually be worse than this guy. but then again there probably isnt.

Re: Where Immortal Stands

I disagree completely, you could write a 10,000 word essay on the message in this song.

So?

I hardly ever get the same shivers down my spine as when he says 'and then he jumped off a bridge and died with no soul/they say death takes you to a better place but I doubt it".

And I get none.

Shock value.

I understand if you guys disagree with my list, but I'm only young and I havn't heard alot of the old school Nas, KRS-One stuff.

@Chargers 09

I think the only reason Dr Dre is better then Premier, Green Lantern & STEOM is because look at all the people who Dre has "made", Eminem, Snoop, Ice Cube, NWA, 50 Cent. That's the only reason I place Dre above those guys.

I think I need to clear things up with the Mainstream thing. I class mainstream rappers as beat orientated kiddie rappers, and I think Lil Wayne is the best Candy Wrapper.

I know that alot of people are going to disagree with the Best Lyricist, but I have you listened to the Marhsall Mathers LP or the Slim Shady LP, that stuff is amazing, but thats just MY opinion.

And I dont think it's a true story, it's just a way of saying how it takes a real thug to rape and kill someone.

Once again I'm only young and I havn't heard alot of the old school stuff, but from what I have heard, that is my list.

A little bit off topic but why does it seem like the first "underground" MC people hear is Immortal Technique? It seems to be a pretty big trend nowadays, along with JMT.

I remember first hearing this song quite awhile ago, it and the Cause of death inspired me to buy revolutionairy 1 and 2 and they were both pretty solid.

Dance with the Devil is probably his best track but overall, vol. 2 is a more solid album, vol. 1 seemed to be a bit lacking, but that's understandable considering it was initially sold out of the boot of his car.

Sadly, the 3rd world was largely disappointing although I'm not sure if you would attribute that to tech himself or the Green Lantern production.

Volume 3 is supposed to be out this year, so hopefully that delivers. He's great but his preference of live performances over producing studio albums is pretty annoying.

Re: Where Immortal Stands

Dance With The Devil is a good song; but I feel that Immortal Technique gets a lot of underserved praise as a rapper because of it. To be honest, a large portion of the song's appeal comes in its shock value.

don't really agree with this, might be misinterpreting you, but i don't think he's after shock value, alot of his stuff is not mainstream, but theres passion there to have a message heard, rather than rapping about stuff that is gonna sell caus it freaks people out

Re: Where Immortal Stands

The shock value of the song does contribute significantly to its appeal, but isn't that the point of it? Having a twist that you didn't see coming? He was able to build up the story to such a great climax with excellent imagery the whole way through.

It takes talent to rap a story in that way, when it would be so much easier to not build the song up at all and just tell it with a straight face, such that the audience felt less emotion for it

Re: Where Immortal Stands

Amazing song, got genuine shivers down ye olde spine. He raps it perfectly
