Read a few posts today on this board saying crouch will be better than dangerfield. Its a huge call, but i thought a thread on it would be worthwhile to see what people think

FWIW Riccuito thinks dangerfield will go down as Adelaides greatest ever player

Lets compare them on ability

speed: dangerfield
agility: dangerfield
goal kicking: dangerfield
attack on the ball: dangerfield
run and carry: dangerfield
marking: dangerfield
kicking skills: too early to call
size/presence: dangerfield
ability to find the ball: both find it very easily
x factor: dangerfield

what is your opinion?

Compare 19 year old Dangerfield with 19 year old Crouch.

Irrelevant.

No player takes the same amount of time to develop into an AFL footballer.
Dangerfield wasnt aerobically fit enough to play in the midfield, and thus played forward

If we compared a 19 year old dangerfield to a 19 year old rhys palmer...you would choose rhys palmer?

I think kicking skills Crouch is ahead, ability to find the ball on the outside hes probably slightly ahead.
Why do we need to compare the meerkat...two of them?
You'll just end up jizzing yourself when you come to the realisation that we have both!

This thread is amazing.

Dangerfield who is widely regarded as elite is better then a 19 year old midfielder in terms of ability!

Wow! I can't believe it!

For the record, come the end of their careers i reckon Crouch will be considered the better player, however Dangerfield will still be the one every side fears in our midfield.

Righto, so we're being asked which one will become the better player, yet we're supposed to reach this conclusion based on the abilities they possess at very different points of their development? Seems reasonable.

I love them equally, but crouch clearly does more with his disposals. Danger needs to dial it back a bit on his disposal. Sure do everything else like a maniac, but taking a step to balance before offloading will take him to the next level.

Vision: Crouch
Ability to put the ball to a teammates advantage: Crouch
Ability to read the play: Crouch
Defensive Pressure/Tackling: Crouch
Handball skills: Crouch

We can do this all day.. ;)

In all seriousness it is a bit early. Danger still has time to refine his kicking and make up the gap ;)

Okay okay, really in all seriousness - I'm with Tex, from what I've seen from Crouch he could be better than Danger. I think he finds the footy far easier than Danger ever has. Is more controlled in his actions in tight than Danger often is.

Danger is immense. A 100m player even if the ball starts at the bottom of a pack. That's what has him ranked as the 2nd best player of the comp. Irrespective of his erratic disposal (at times) he just gains so much dangerous ground for the side. Whether that be starting at half-back and booting the ball out of bounds deep in our F50. Or winning the ball i50 and kicking goals. I will never argue against his worth/value. He's an amazing freak of nature and will stay top 10 in the comp for the next years comfortably.

Crouch is an incredibly talented footballer. The way I view him is Andrew Jarman/Greg Williams'esque - but with an explosive ability those guys never had (and possibly not quite the skill level those guys had - but that is yet to be seen, he COULD be that good). He's already a better user of the footy when getting it to his teammates (compared to Patty). Probably not the goal kicker Patty is - or the marker of the footy Patty is. But his work around the ball, and reading of the play, already shows hints he could be better than Patty. He averaged more disposals this year than Patty - just think about that for a minute. He already finds more of the footy than Danger. Danger struggled for a number of years to spell 'loose ball get' let alone find one.

I love Danger - and despair over his disposal at times.
I Love Crouch - he could be something else. Definitely a bit if shiny toyitis as Vader would say - but who cares, Tex agrees with me ;)

Oh wait, we do!

We could very well have another McLeod/Ricciuto on our hands here. Both regarded as the top 2 players, but it's personal preference as to who is #1 and who is #2

Crouch has the better tackling technique. Danger still goes for the waist.
Danger is a better goal kicker atm. Crouch will improve with confidence.
Danger is faster, but Crouch has the ability to be where the ball is.

WE HAVE BOTH! Is the clincher. Something to hold onto over the long football famine soon to begin.

Chuck in Sloane, Grigg, Kedge, Douggy, Smith and there is a serious midfield rotation going forward. If we can find or have a few more step up that is depth that can win us a flag.

It's not a silly statement to say Crouch could end up better.

From the SINGLE year we have seen Crouch play, he has better disposal by foot and imo will improve more than Dangerfields ever will. He can accumulate consistently where as Danger has always struggled with that. IMO he has a better football brain.

Dangerfield eclipses almost anyone in his ability to get that impossible handball out from a pack (he is actually underrated in how effective his handballs are in these situations) while being tackled by more than 1 player. He also eclipses everyone with his powerful burst of speed from a pack. Also he is extremely dangerous up forward, which might be the deciding factor in who will be the better player.

Dangerfield has more game breaking ability but Crouch will probably end up the more consistent and classier player, therefore not really comparable imo.

Dangerfield because his best is still ahead of him, incredibly rare skillset he possesses, insane top of the tier strength matched with elite pace.
However Crouch will probably be our second best mid, better than Sloane I think. Crouch's ability to read the ball is incredible, he's always around the ball, with another pre season (make more contests) he'll become a ball winning freak gaining 35-40 touches a game, I'm not talking next year I'm just saying as he gains a proper fitness base for AFL football, he was already getting 30 regularly.
Massive coup to get Crouch to Adelaide imo, our recruiters are great. Huge talent he is.

Dangerfield
Crouch
Sloane

That's three mids that the opposition are going to be wary of for the next decade, can't tag them all.

I'm sensing a trend here.

Hey Jango - checkout my avatar...

Lol good call on the avatar :D

I've seen a lot of football, and when a player has a good first year, people start predicting the best player ever. Just bookmark this thread and we will revisit it in the next couple of years. Crouch will never be as good as Dangerfield, Dangerfield is a once in a generation player.
Do people realize he gets tagged every week for the whole season? Yet we say sloane, Douglas and crouch had better second halves of the season? If any of those three got tagged they would have little to no influence, whilst the number 32 deals with it every week

Good luck to you all jumping off the Dangerfield wagon so early lol, I'll make sure to quote your posts next year :thumbsu:

At the same age? Crouch is having way more influence than Danger.

Read the posts above before you post. At the same age it doesn't matter. Rhys Palmer and Daniel rich are better than both at 19...so I guess they have Dangerfield covered
