In Mooroolbark (Melbourne) there is 3 roundabouts all joined together, ive only gone through it a few times but usually have no idea whats going on but atleast I stick to my lane. A lot of people just wander over all the lanes to get to where they want. Nightmare.

Not an easy intersection to navigate, went there for the first time a couple of years ago & took a bit of time to work it all out.

+ another one for the intersection at Reservoir station. Only have been thru there a couple of times ever in my life, but that was a couple times too many!!!!

Also one for me is an intersection in Sunshine. Was going to Commsec to buy a new computer- suddenly i was in this "Bermuda Triangle" of these roundabouts with one way streets. Almost had a nervous breakdown getting out of there. :o

Yeah roundabouts in Australia are nothing compared to some of the nightmares in Britain.

For horrible intersections I would like to nominate Montague Street/West Gate offramps/Lorimer Street.

The solution to every problem in the UK is "roundabout"

"just bang a roundabout in there and she'll be right mate"

There's a roundabout in melbourne just north of the CBD which is pretty much the same as this one but with trams running through the middle.

And here's a diagram just incase you were still confused.

You pretty much have to give way to the trams so you end up having people stopping half way in the middle of the round about at various points.

Heading northbound thats Elizabeth street feeding into Royal Parade and Flemington road. The area just out of shot is Melbourne Uni due north and the hospital precinct (Royals Melbourne, Women and Children) to the northwest. And to think they want to add Peter Mac to that mess!

It was a nightmare before the traffic lights were put in, but plenty of drivers still have no idea where they are going, cutting across traffic and occasionally driving straight through the middle on the tram tracks. It is at its worst during the evening peak when Royal Parade is gridlocked.

To make matters worse, once the Peter Mac hospital opens in 2015, there is talk that Grattan Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between Flemington Road and Royal Parade ie between Peter Mac and RMH.

I remember the first time driving into Melbourne quite a few years ago from Adelaide to go to a show at the Arthouse on Elizabeth St (RIP). Holy shit, when I came across this roundabout I nearly shit myself... Then later on nearly got into an accident when wanting to do a U-turn, not realising the double carraige way layout that Elizabeth street/Royal Parade has... nearly turned into traffic coming from behind me!

The Reservoir intersection is quite terrible for people not familiar with it but growing up around there you sort of get used to the unusual design.

Somerton Rd between Pascoe Vale Rd and Kirkham Dve is torture to merge into, a fair few people have died in those 1-2 intersections.

Travelling from the Polly Farmer Freeway north onto the Mitchell Freeway and then trying to get off at the Vincent Street exit can be fraught with danger, you have around 100 metres to try and cut cross about 4 lanes of traffic. It's doable in non peak hours but close to impossible in peak hour traffic, a few times I've just had to get off at the Powis Street exit instead.

Agree that Perth drivers are terrible, especially when it comes to merging and driving on freeways. I've driven on the freeway systems in LA and San Diego which are way more complex and with more traffic than Perth but traffic still flows better there because people know how to merge and don't clog up lanes by going too slow.

One of the worst and most dangerous intersections I've seen is the roundabout around the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Was amazing watching the traffic from the top of it, there are just no rules at all with cars going every which way. Hate to think how many accidents they must have there.

That move really should be banned (by putting up a concrete kerb next to the lane that enters the freeway from the GFF) as it is pretty dangerous/interrupts traffic flow at the best of times. As you said, Powis Street is an alternative route, as is using the Cambridge Street off-ramp from the GFF.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking - why wouldn't you just take the Cambridge Street exit out of the tunnel and end up in exactly the same place?

getting off the west gate outbound on to the ring road and trying to go down the boundary road exit can sometimes be a pain in the ass, especially when you're in the third lane, there's lots of traffic coming from the in bound geelong freeway direction and you're in a b double.

It's not exactly the same place, getting off at the Vincent Street exit allows you to avoid a few sets of lights as well as additional traffic if you want to get on to Vincent Street or Lake Monger Drive.

That's not a good weave at the best of times but trying to do it from the right lane (which is what I assume you mean when you say 'third lane' is just mindbogglingly stupid, especially in a truck. Stupid drivers cause crashes!

i prefer them over the US 4 way stop

I try to be in the left lane going up the exit ramp but surprisingly often theres more than one person going far under the speed limit and frustration/the desire not to have to drop 6 gears gets the better of me.

If i think its a little bit too hairy i'll go on to the fitzgerald road exit and take that instead.

Eelup roundabout in Bunbury is shocking.

I think the local smash repair companies are in mourning because it's actually finally getting an upgrade. For a region center of only 50,000 or so, there's been 650 crashes there in 5 years, and that just the reported ones. Mate works in one of several smash repairers in town and he said they get at least 2-3 a week from it.

It's nothing crazy, just a 2 lane, 4 exit roundabout. Dumb pricks just don't know how to use it. i've been taken out twice by idiots turning right from the left lane, basically turning straight into me while i'm trying to go straight ahead in the right lane

Bloody hell. Do sandgropers really struggle with such simple driving tasks?

Yep. It's no different to any other supersized dual lane roundabout, just gets a lot of traffic and a lot of idiot losers that don't know how to drive.

WA drivers can't merge let alone use a dual lane roundabout

The FWY system surrounding the city exits going both ways is a nightmare in Perth.

And heading North around Warrick RD its only 2 lanes which is also a pain in the arvos.

Me too. Pain in the arse when multiple cars come to a stop at more or less the same time. Sort of like playing russian roulette in a car.

They've started to put in roundabouts down here but people don't really seem to know what to do.
