Patrick Dangerfield will make his AFL debut for Adelaide against Essendon at Telstra Dome on Saturday.

Midfielder Brent Reilly is the other addition to the Crows team, which is chasing a 12th win to secure a finals berth. They replace injured midfielder Bernie Vince (hamstring) and first-year player Andy Otten. Reilly made a successful return from a knee injury with Sturt in the SANFL last weekend after a month on the sidelines.

Otten, Jared Petrenko and Kurt Tippett are the emergencies.

Dangerfield, 18 and 190cm, was Adelaide’s first pick in the 2007 AFL national draft but stayed at home in Victoria this year to complete Year 12. He has been playing strongly in a variety of different roles for the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup under 18 competition and earlier this season played some SANFL league football with West Adelaide.

Coach Neil Craig said the club had been keen to provide Dangerfield with an AFL opportunity at some stage this season.

“Patrick has made school a priority this season and we understand that,” he said. “But we think the timing is right to give him a look at the AFL – and to give us a look at him.

“It’s really exciting for Patrick and the playing group and I’m sure our supporters will also feel the same way.”

Dangerfield will be the 162nd player to play for the Adelaide Football Club since it was formed before the 1991 season. He will also be the eighth player to represent the club for the first time in 2008, following Kurt Tippett, David Mackay, Brad Symes, Jarrhan Jacky, James Sellar, Otten and Brad Moran.

Adelaide trains at Max Basheer Reserve from 10am on Friday before travelling to Melbourne.

The team is:

B: Johncock, Rutten, Bassett
HB: van Berlo, Bock, Doughty
C: Symes, Goodwin, Mackay
HF: Dangerfield, Stevens, McLeod
F: Douglas, Gill, Moran
R: Maric, Thompson, Edwards
Int: Massie, Shirley, Campbell, Reilly
Emerg: Tippett, Otten, Petrenko

In: Reilly, Dangerfield
Out: Vince (hamstring), Otten

WHAT THE ****!
Awesome!
Feel bad for Otten, as he looked alright, but very very excited to see how Patty goes.
Argh, and I can't even watch it live (wedding).

Beauty :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Bit disappointed about Otten as he didn’t do that much wrong but his game last week simple showed he will be a player of the future.

Inspirational changes Neil – in Neil we trust. :D

This is one of the better moments for us Melbourne based supporters. Still i'm disappointed for Otten, thought he deserved another week. What happens if Danger performs this week? Wonder what the school schedule is like coming into finals? You'd expect pretty heavy?

Holy moly!

I honestly did not believe the title...thats amazing..

Turns out Neil Craig does have a bag of tricks after all!

Think of all the banner/poster ideas that could come out of this one :D

Re: Rd 20 team- dangers in!!!!

Won't believe it until he runs onto the Dome. Seems a funny selection considering he hasn't even trained with the team this week.

Will not be surprised to see Otten or Tippett come into the side on Saturday morning.

Anyone else absolutely astonished by the number of debutants this year?

Particularly when one considers the hot SANFL form of blokes like Walker, Kite and Petrenko who are yet to get a look in!

Re: Rd 20 team- dangers in!!!!

feel sorry for Otten

hardly fair on the kid. mixed messages at best

Spot on. This is woeful player management in my view.

Why didn't Patrick play last week if tehy were so keen for him to play? Now Otten comes in and does oka nd then gets dropped.

Blood aveerage in my view.

Note: This view is in no way a go at Patrick and I wish him all the best in the world.

Seriously…what’s more important? School, or footy :p

Stoked that Dangerfield is playing but I would’ve though that giving Otten every game leading up to the finals (at least) would be a good move for the club to add some AFL experience to our depth players (as opposed to giving dangerfield just a couple, which is what it might just be). Very upset for andy.

Shit!!! I can’t believe that Dangerfield is an in and I’m somewhat upset over the circumstances of his entry. WTF is up with that!!!??? Why couldn’t we just drop Perrie…

Ah well. Might as well just go with it. **** yeah!!!!

Im happy. We needed to make 2 changes as im not convinced Otten is ready to move in to Vince's forward spot as others suggested would happen with the one change.

Can Dangerfeild do it? absolutely nfi, worth a try though, we didn't really have any other option other than Jericho and that isn't much of an option. Otten isn't the one i would have dropped, but i understand he was the one most likely to be dropped.

I doubt he would play finals anyway to be honest. Can't expect a guy to debut in round 20 and dominate in AFL finals.

Hopefully Porps and Knighter are back for finals.

But he is not guy........he is something from the DANGERZONE!!!

OK, probably getting ahead of myself. Oh Well.
