Agger is a fairly average defender (tends to happen when Carragher gets a gig before you), and is struggling for regular appearances, and his late cameo up front against Sunderland raised a few questions in my mind:

Can Agger be converted to a CF?
Has this been tried in the past?
Could he live up to Voronin's lofty standards?

Despite his glaring miss, he got in the right positions twice in a frantic 5 minute period, only Turner's clearance stopped him from scoring on another occasion.

He has a cracking shot, and the height to cause problems, surely it's worth a try?

Jamie Harnwell board.
Exactly my point, it's not working for him in defence and I think he has a few assets which could be at least used as a pinch hitter as a centre forward.

Especially against the big teams, as Roy's gameplan is pump the ball forward and hope to god that Torres runs onto it, or gets fouled, surely a tall partner would help Torres with the "gameplan" Liverpool employ.

If he's not going to play in central defense, I'd like to see him played as a DM - play Ngog up front with Nando.

I'm sorry, but apart from Gerard Pique no CB can play the CF position to any great effect.

It's a very reasonable question posed by the OP and probably deserves more respect than what it has been given. It is a concept that I like and given the tight finances that many clubs in the premiership are faced with, if you can find extra options to fill a certain position without having to find more wages or without taking up an extra spot in the 25 man squad, then why wouldn't you do it?

It seems like managers don't have the bollocks to try something like this anymore. I can only think of Allardyce with Samba and Scolari with Belletti in central midfield as examples of managers being consistently prepared to do something like this.

Some on here may be to young to remember Dion Dubln, but he was accomplished at Centre-half and was also good enough to win the golden boot as a striker. Without the ability to swing him from end to end each week, I think Villa would have been in more relegation trouble than they actually were in.

I would like to see him replace Poulsen as a defensive midfielder.

We have Torres and Ngog to play up front, with plenty of other (poor) options in Kuyt and Jovanovic.

Agger is needed as a CB, but Roy wont play him there.
