What embarrassing admissions by Dan. No wonder he is being asked what other business cases that he has relied upon are flawed
Is this the bit were the cynicism kicks in

Kardinia Park is in the safe Labor seat of Geelong, which was held with a 10 per cent margin before last year’s election. Armstrong Creek and Waurn Ponds are in the neighbouring electorate of South Barwon, held on a tighter 3 per cent margin.

Labor campaigned on the Games in the regions and extended its lead in both seats at the November election.

Still prefer Dan to anything the opposition is offering but i think the 3rd term staleness is setting in.

For mine, the silver bullet for the liberals might be when the proposed planning 'reform' doesn't deliver near the impact for provision of housing that Dan is relying on.

His investment in PT has been fantastic but theres been a few big things (not including Covid - not going there) where he just hasn't come out well in the last 18 months - airport rail loop, comm games, delivering social housing on budget

Dan can kick he’s feet up, he’s in no danger leadership wise. I cannot stand the bloke. But I just don’t vote, as Liberal offer no alternative. In boxing, you have to take the belt off of the champion - it’s not going to be handed to you.

Fresh from her trip to Africa on behalf of Victorians, Education Minister Natalie Hutchins has backflipped on cost cutting to address the ballooning State debt.

A win to the Education Union, a loss to the Treasurer - what chance Dan runs the Union line:
"We are pleased the minister has genuinely engaged with the AEU, parents, disability advocacy groups, families and the community and taken this proposal off the table."

What line will the media run?

The flaw in PT investment is the service hasn't really been upgraded.
There's been very little investment in PT. Other than Metro which isn't open yet and was bi-partisan.

Committee for Melbourne released a good paper about bus services recently:

More buses is the opposite of what the ALP seem to want to to (no big build aspect, unless buses are built locally).

Libs won't do it, because it makes the Union bigger, that's why they cut all the jobs and services in the Kennett era after the GP PT strike before privatising, thus entrenching the job losses.

As Keating famously said of Peter Costello- all tip and no iceberg.

Seems to pretty much sum up Dan the Man these days.

When you say "second part", it was always supposed to be the first part. The Liberal Govt was told multiple times that the Western part needed to be built before the eastern part (the part they contracted to build the week before caretaker mode). They decided to ignore that advice because their project served Liberal seats. It was Liberal Govt flat out ignoring Departmental advice on multiple occasions. So they can't complain when the Andrews Govt just proceeded as if the Department of Transport didn't exist.

WGT is doing the same thing, to accommodate traffic between CityLink/CBD and the Ring Road, but does it in the M1 corridor instead of a new corridor. So it's less intrusive, but means there's more pressure on the Western/CityLink corridor than if they'd built it along the original alignment.

I've lived what happens when there is more pressure on that corridor. In 2017 a major accident in Point Cook diverted all Geelong bound traffic through Bacchus Marsh. It took four hours to get to Bacchus Marsh from Windsor.

I'll complain about the Department of Transport - line agencies shouldn't leak to the media. All the EWL leaks during the Napthine Premiership came from DoT.

And anyone can complain about anything - you just don't have to give it any regard.

Level crossing removals are a somewhat upgrade because they renew the infrastructure but it isn't being backed up with service upgrades .
Service upgrades aren't exactly sexy it seems.

You mention buses being built locally. Practically every bus body is.
The majority of buses running around in Melbourne came out of Volgren Dandenong.
Even interstate builders in Bustech and Custom Coaches(now custom denning) don't have huge amounts of buses running around in Melbourne

Jacinta Allan is being called the Minister for the Fyre Festival, and it was an unnamed Labor MP who dubbed her with this name.
Is there an outside chance that we ditched the Comm Games at a cost of $380+ million to get our hands on the Fyre Festival II?

I can't envisage a better sequel to the original Fyre Festival than having 1000's of rich American influencers being sold shots of Whitehaven Beach and ending up in some swampy farmland around Moe.

The thing about people is most don’t like being made a fool of and won’t forget it at the next election. Lots down here aren’t happy with the games cancellation and that’ll be that these games were used as regional victoria election bargaining chips.

Let’s see at the next election how many don’t forget that they voted for this man on the back of this now cancelled major event.

The snippet from last nights news was embarrassing.

Regardless of political alignment I think most should be able to see we deserve a better person as premier.

Remember Kennett was in the rust bucket era, Cain hospital hand pass to Kirner.
'By the left' Ms Allan.
No trains to the Latrobe Valley for the time being, lots of buses though.

The non stop buses hasn't escaped the attention of organizations like the PTUA.

If someone said Metro, V/Line, LXRA and Metro Tunnel don't talk to each other planning out work I wouldn't be surprised.

Then again there's a lot of shit I've seen that doesn't surprise me rail wise.

The Victorian economy is actually doing just fine, like other states, it was a bit over-heated. I wonder how many of those businesses were "trusts" or made up companies for the purposes of the pandemic? There was a lot of that going on.

I heard Paul Guerra being questioned about this on Wednesday. He made a similar point but did say he was concerned about the stats and he urged Melbourne businesses thinking about moving not to go interstate but to consider regional Victoria. The significant point he made is that the impact of increases in payroll, WC and land tax (for businesses that own their property) are yet to bite
