Daniel Bradshaw vs. his former team

Great first half by Bradshaw - helps when a) you get good delivery and b) you have the oppositions third choice defender on you. In the second half, apart from the torp from a non-mark, I think he was easily beaten by Goose when he returned from being KO'd.

Down the other end Fev and Brown got nothing from our delivery and nothing from the umpires. Fev got one free kick after LRT had been told 'five times' to stop holding and, according to the commentary team, the third umpire was ball watching.

That aside, good luck to Bradshaw. He is in a good position now to ask for a three year extension to his contract.

I think its pretty important to remember it wasn't a Bradshaw or Fev thing - Voss wanted to keep Bradshaw.

The sticking point was the contract length. Sydney offered 3 years, and while I'm not sure if the Lions offered 1 or 2 the point is the decision was purely a decision that he wasn't reliable enough body wise for 3 years. I don't think some good form 6 rounds in to season 1 either proves or disproves the poor decision argument.

Finally someone in this thread makes some sense.

Whilst I love Bradshaw and was shattered to see him bag 6 against the Lions, lets judge the change of clubs in 2 or 3 years time.

Also on last nights game, if Fevola had the same midfield service that Bradshaw enjoyed he would have kicked a bigger bag than 4.

You don't offer around a player you want to keep

Being offered up as trade bait made Bradshaw walk ..he was dissapointed with the treatment he recieved by Voss and the Lions ..as soon as he was put up for trade he decided he would not play for the Lions again ...and nobody can blame him .

Whether it was a good or poor decision is irrelavent to the lousy way he was treated.

pick 12, Henderson, Bradshaw, and quite possibly Rischetelli at the end of the year ..appears to be over the top odds for a 29 yr old Fev.

Great to see Braddy stick it right up the Lions and Voss last night . :thumbsu:

was a mark, just got his second hand to the ball before he hit the ground, and the impact forced the ball out.

lucky it was paid, but when you watch the replay it is a mark.

The decision looks silly now thats for sure. I was pretty certain Fev would improve Brisbane, I rated Fev higher than Bradshaw but I guess I just criminally underrated him. Either way Sydney are reaping the rewards of what looks like the best drafting decision of last year.

Different roles and different variables at each club.

Bradshaw would still be the poorer cousin at BL. That would never change while Brown was there. At SYD, he is king of the forward line and the go-to man. Bradshaw's career may have been totally different at another club, say in the position Fev was for his whole career.

Frankly, we'll never know. What we do know is that Roos is a decent judge of talent of 2nd stringers at other clubs, and has the track record of getting good consistent performances out these players at SYD.

Mate, defenders are constantly told to stop holding. It happens all the time, and most of them are never called. Bradshaw was consistently being held onto, too, but fortunately he's totally awesome and won his one-on-ones, as opposed to Fev who gave LRT far too much opportunity to jump late at the ball. Should've kept him.

it wasnt even close, the ball was never controlled but hey it was still great to see the torp :thumbsu:

lots worse marks paid every week than the one before the torp.

as for fev and brown with the umps, i thought brown got looked after fairly, got a soft in the back from grundy at one stage.

Fev spent most of the night throwing himself on the ground off the ball asking for frees, if he quit being a sook he might get something

What a gun!

Just the type of player we needed too. Hall was shit in one on one, body on body marking contests. Bradshaw >>>>>>>>> Fev >>>>>>>> Hall.
Very true Mal. Hall's one big tick is his leading ability, but was very ordinary overhead, and got penalised too often in one on ones. Bloody Bradshaw is a godsend for our club:thumbsu:

Shouldn't have been paid a mark will absolutely concede that point. Still great goal the reason the torp is gone is of it's poor accuracy but when you hit them sweet they look huge and spin beautifully. Bradshaws didn't spin quite right but it held its line. May get a GOTY nomination imo.

Funny, I never heard anything mentioned of Bradshaw being held during that game. I dont think it was so much Fev giving LRT opportunity, it was poor disposal coming to Fev.

I don't think Fev has ever had a big influence at the SCG. The shortness of the ground doesn't suit his style of play, ie starting off deep and leading long. I can't remember him ever doing much damage to us when he was at Carlton TBH.

quit your bitching... fev & brown both scored 4 a piece, 3 from banfield...and you still lost... your team's not as good as you'd like to believe they are....vossy made a monumental mistake putting bradshaw up for trade...

Thats your opinion and good on you. I hope you get a good three years out of Bradshaw. Fortunately he wont be in a position to hold the club to ransom come 2013.

FYI there are plenty of us who actually do not believe our clubs IS that good. We have plenty of deficiencies that we have failed to address in our recruiting.

And I wasnt bitching, I was quantifying the observations of the commentary team who also observed alot of holding going on.

See - that is how you reply - with constructive comments.

Fevola was completely flattered by having 4 goals next to his name. 2 were kicks off the ground and another was a gift from Brown. He only took 1 mark for the whole game.

Flattered = rubbish. Fev played a bad game yet kicked 4 goals. He's been kicking those 'off the ground' goals all year. Just shows how dangerous he can be even when he is having an off night.

The comparison between him and Braddie is silly. Braddie is the man at Sydney and the team are disciplined enough to make space and give him every opportunity to have one-on-one contests which he will win more often than not because he is a gun (strong as hell and smart). Fev plays second fiddle to Brown now and if it was any other player he would be heaped with praise for coming 3rd in the Coleman as a 2nd tall forward in a team that are one of the worst clearance sides in the comp.

I was sitting behind the goals at the ground, and he was. All big forwards do. If you're a decent defender, you've got to scrag a bit. Just about being smart about it.

Maybe I'm just jaded from years of Barry Hall in the team, but my view is there's always going to be some scragging and holding, the umpires will never call it all, and a good forward will be able to win the contest.

And yeah, the disposal to Fev was pretty shithouse, but I think he exposed the ball a fair bit when going for a grab.

he also draws a salary more than double what Bradshaw does, thus meaning loyal servants like Power and Black are probably on $200k less than Fev and it makes it harder to retain young talent on the fringe of selection.

Look for one of the 3 lions ruckmen to land at the GC next year
Good summary guys. The trade was short term thinking, and I think the Lions will live to regret it. The Swans are astute in the trade, no question.

Its a shame that Brisbane traded Bradshaw , i think loyal players should be rewarded but loyalty seems to be a thing of the past now. Anyway ,i was happy to see the swans pick up Bradshaw, and he has so far delivered for the swans ( its only rd 6 ). Hopefully he can keep up this good form. Against Brisbane , he was fantastic and that barrell on the 3qt siren was awesome. It definitely was the highlight of the night , we havent seen one of those at the SCG since Derek Kickett.

I think Matthews may have something there. Hope he can hold that competitive edge against teams other than Brisbane

He's absolving the lions of knifing him and ignoring the positive influence the swans playing group may be having on his game.

The article is a deflection.
