He should have stood up today, as he was needed.

For the life of me, I do not know where he belongs in the team.

I have been right all year about this and all last year. Bradshaw is a dud and can't step up when needed. It proves the point yet again. Why do we persist with him? Brown could be FF with Weller CHF. Weller has shown us he can play. Maybe even Voss up forward. We have the midfield to allow him to go up forward. Leppitsch could be used FF and Weller could be used CHB. Why do we keep persisting with Bradshaw?

Just on today, it took Matthews until the 3rd quarter to take him off.

I would have thrown Shattock up there, he certainly couldn't have done any worse, and at least Shattock has a red hot go in the air when he has the chance.

I was a bit surprised that Voss didn't drop down into the forward pocket in the last few minutes of the game, after he came back on.

braddy is a good player
& i didnt see the whole game so i cant really comment... he tried his best in the time that i saw... & they did move shatts forward & although he did try for the mark.. it never come off.. the dockers just always seemed to have a taller player... like McPharlin who would just jump over the top of everyone else...

I agree. He is a good player.

He's been a very valuable contributor for the last 3 seasons and I think some people are being very tough on him.

In the first quarter yesterday, I reckon he was about the only one of of our players who showed any common sense when he was in range of the goals.

With the aid of a stiiff breeze, we had guys trying to chip and pass near the 50m arc when what was required was to back themselves and have a ping. I was tearing my hair out when Lappin took a mark 40m out on a slight angle and tried a pinpoint pass.....TO THE POCKET!!!......why????

On the other hand when Bradshaw got it 52 out, he wheeled around and kicked a very good goal....with the aid of the breeze. That was the only reason we were in front at quarter time.

As to where he fits into the team, I believe he is suffering from "Kim Hughes" syndrome. Back in the 80's Greg Chappell was getting all the glory as captain of the OZ cricket team ON HOME SOIL.

When it came to the "away" tests, Chappell decided he didn't want to play, so Hughes got the captain's job for overseas tours. When the side performed poorly, everyone decided that was Hughes' fault.

As with Chappell/Hughes, Lynchy is getting the pea job for all the cushy home games, whilst Bradshaw is being expected to "cover" for him in the much more difficult asiignments on road trips.

You can't take a vital player out of a side and expect his understudy to "step up" when you are giving the understudy the most difficult assignment in footy.....an away game in foreign and difficult conditions (and they were difficult).

No key forward in the game from either side looked like doing anything yesterday.

Why did everyone expect Bradshaw to be the match winner?

As far as I am concerned, we lost because the whole side played dumb footy in the first quarter and because we committed 3 or 4 costly clangers in our back half.

Paying out on Bradshaw is just a case of looking for a convenient scapegoat.

To me it looks as though Vossy hasn't recovered fully from his knee opperation from 3 - 4 weeks back. He can't kick, can't run and seems to be lacking the power in his hand passes which missed a couple of targets yesterday. To me he looks as though he is in pain and maybe shouldn't be playing.

Spot on luthor. People only see what they want to see. Should have a closer look at one of our Brownlow medalists game yesterday. Absolutely shocking. Kept turning it over to the opposition everytime he touched it. No critisism on his game tough.

Vossy only came back because we needed a leader out there. That's a main thing we're missing. Leadership.

I've said it before about this overrated hack, We've got the wrong Bradshaw brother. Trade him of somewhere - anywhere and get his brother from West Adelaide. We might get a third round draft pick for Darren which is more than he's worth.

With Lynchy back next week he's gotta get dropped. Also need DJ back in the side.

Apologies for actually trying to get the thread back on topic but...

I had a few real issues with Bradshaw's game on Saturday. His second and third efforts were non-existent, and he allowed the ball to be run out of defence way too easily. He is coming up to the most important part of his career with the Lions, as the next few months will decide his future. I really liked the way he plays when he is made accountable in the back half, and this is where he can be the most value to the team. His days as more than a pinch hitting forward are numbered as he doesn't have the size or application to do the job week in and week out. The game against Hawthorn is the ideal opportunity for him to be used back with Brown, Lynch and White/Weller able to patrol the forward line, and I would play Bradshaw on Barker. It's time for him to stand up.

Some nice thoughts there CJ, but unfortunately it will all be irrelevant, as the mere fact of my appearance on the ground will be enough to stiffle any opposition uprising.
