For anyone still questioning where the club see Curtin’s ultimate position at AFL level:

What the club says:

"It went to plan. It was probably a pretty bold move to go up and get Dan Curtin, but that certainly wasn't a plan four or five weeks ago that we thought was going to eventuate, to get a player of Dan's quality. Everyone knows how highly he was rated in this draft. His versatility, at 197cm he's played midfield, so we were just thrilled to get him in and it was great to see him and his family last night. Charlie was always in our thinking. To add two players over 190cm that have both played a lot of midfield was a real bonus." - Crows national recruiting manager Hamish Ogilvie

They very much will see Curtin as a mid me thinks

Only thing I worry about is other than maybe Pedlar (have the most confidence in his pure grunt abilities out of that lot), there’s no real in and under ‘clearance pig’ to distribute the ball amongst that lot
Yep. It’s why I think Berry might still have a crucial role in our future midfield. However, needs to significantly improve his accumulation.

Pretty much a repeat of Hamish's conference ....a little bit eaxtra though

While he has impressed as a defender in West Australia, Curtin can also play as a forward and could even be a tall midfielder – which the Crows have been crying out for.

“Yeah he was really a forward during most of his junior footy, last year he was interrupted and played pretty much everywhere this year,” Ogilvie said.

“Started forward in the colts, played a bit of everywhere in the AFL Academy and by the end of the season in the league team he was all over the place.

“So it was a good standing and those WAFL finals he played in were really tough and gives him a really good grounding.

Jeffcrowe .....this seems to reinforce my belief, Petty will be traded as a DEF .....Curtin FWD / MID

Not sure we will even trade for Petty

A year is a long time in football

Also what happens if he kicks 50 goals for melb next year ?

Only time will tell either way

50 goals? I think he is more likely to miss at least half the season next year. He needs to get his body right before we recruit him a few years later and benefit from FA like all the other clubs and it will be the perfect time as we are about to enter the premiership window.

Eh, I don't know if it's that big of an ask. Stopper is one of those things that you have or you don't and Keane/Butts/Worrell should at least cover a fair portion of the load.

It probably just results in Worrell getting more responsibility as a CHB.
If he’s given the best/biggest forward though…

So you don't believe Petty wants to come home to ADEL .....I'm a huge sceptic on these "homesickness excuses" ...but I believe Petty wants to return

He won a premiership at MELB .....if anything was to hold him, it would be the comradery with his teammates .....kicking 50 goals is insignificant by comparison .....and he won't kick 50 goals next year ....have you watched a lot of his fwd games ??

Curtin looks like a ripper colt, hope he immediately finds his feet in Adelaide. Welcome to the club young fella.

I'm still scratching my head about how we get Sid Draper in the club next draft year as he looks to be Dangerfield-esque, the offer of 1st Round from West Coast must've been tempting. Ideally adding Curtin, Edwards, Draper and Welsh to the existing squad would keep the development on track.

Curtin for Reid would have been probably doable option as well.
Forget exact draft numbers ....but NORTH offering #3, #17, #18 ....with WCE's 2nd pick coming back ...may have done it

Has to be asked why he went as low as he did for someone with his skill set. He ticks pretty much every single box for a footballer except being from another state. Did we take a huge punt on something when others were more risk averse?

I like that we have taken a risk if so, but I hope we've done our diligence given our recent history.
Even Bo Callihan only slid to Pick 6...

He's not the only 1

It'll be interesting topic of conversation in 4-5 years. As will be their decision to draft a mid over McDonald. Though sounds like Freo are planning to go hard for McDonald next year
One of the Dumbest Drafting choices I've seen .....and they're still doing it, loading up with MIDS draft after draft

Crazy really ...when you consider HAW rebuild and became a powehouse, off the back of taking 2 x KPF's ....whilst RICH went the Mid route

I love that after taking some smalls, we're now building our aerial power

They're going to be like GWS in a year or 2. They'll be losing decent players to other Vic teams looking for opportunity

You'd think Powell will be gettable

We are going to have to trade a player of value to get into the hitting zone of a top mid next year. Might be easier to try and pry phillipou out if we can. Our 1st every chance to be a teens pick and our f1 the same..thats not getting you a top 5 pick next year

Maybe the one to have tried for and forgoing ryan was with freo if they wanted a player at that pick for their port f1..that might be a slider next year

I don’t believe anything is locked in for player or club but I’m not sure what we are arguing ??!!

Also we won’t prioritise Petty unless we need him , we won’t over spend on him if it looks we need something else

And given Petty will play forward next season I certainly wouldn’t lock in the fact that he will play key defence again

Yes it might happen and it might not , need to keep flexible mind on it
