I can see him going a couple of ways after seeing some more footage.

Using Crows examples:

Jordan Dawson type that plays defence initially and dominates, then bursts into the midfield after a few years and never looks back.

Nathan Bock type running defender who can blanket an opponent, run the lines, and hit targets cleanly.

I'd rather the former as we need some more mids, but Bock was a great player for a while

From the extended highlights (WAFL), there’s def a concern about his lack of competitiveness/hardness at the contest.

Before you all start smashing me; yes, I know I’ve seen limited amounts and others have seen more.

But there’s a reason he slid so far. And there have been queries about his lack of aggression. Anyone seen footage of him crashing a pack to mark or spoil?

Doesn’t mean he won’t be a star. Just might not be a Cripps-like mid. I’m cool with that, given his composure, decision making and disposal looks top notch. I reckon he has more of Scott Pendlebury in him than a Cripps.
Agree, he doesn't crash the pack when going to mark but around the ball he looks very competitive to the point even when he is on the ground and out of play he hasn't given up on trying to get the ball and laid some very strong tackles.

Just a bit more footage (may be doubling up on what others have already posted) - but that sidestep in traffic for a near 200cm guy is sublime (about 8mins 20 in)

Thats enough. Playing round one 100%.

Nah start messaging the show’s sponsors. He’ll be apologising quick smart if the sponsors start phoning the station saying they’ll pull their sponsorships if he doesn’t apologise.

While Rowe isn’t in the same league as Alan Jones, it’s how Alan Jones was relegated from one of the country’s leading radio spots to Sky after dark.
Rowie has been off air the last few days 🤔

Almost every commentator that follows the Kids closely, had Curtin ranked in the top six players in the draft for talent. Some had him second to Harley Reid.

There was also a strong view that there were 8-10 first tier players with the next 10-15 players pretty equal in potential. We moved from pick 12 to pick 8 to pick up one of the first tier young guns.

Why did he slide? The general commentary was that it was a fear of the go home factor (particularly North Melbourne) and the other clubs picking between 5 and 8 having greater needs than the best tall defender/tall forward/giant midfielder. He was exactly what we wanted (our predicted first pick was picked up at pick 18) and I expect that he will play plenty of games in the AFL in 2024.

Instead of trying to find negatives with the Kid, we should just thank our lucky stars that things fell our way this time.

Certainly not trying to find negatives. I’m just making an uninformed observation that he’s more of a classy outside tall mid. And as a defender, he’s not that hard-as-a-cats-head Murray type. Don’t worry, I’m bloody excited about him.

With an AFL body I think those things can improve.

There’s definitely room in our best 22 for an elite offensive/more than capable defensive CHB, or another link-up tall midfielder in the vein of Daws

That enough. Playing round one 100%.

Watching how many attributes he seems good at I reckon he could easily have been pick 1

Would like to see him start as a wing or high half forward - roam around, get into to stoppages and not have too much defence on his radar. Kid will be an attacking weapon anywhere on the ground

Just play him where he’s been playing

It's interesting the decision WC made. He looks a nearly ready replacement for a few of their players with JMcG the 1st thought and if he moves into the midfield even better for them.

And at home

Either WC believe or hope he comes back mature or Reid stays long term

Very rare they lose players
Judd the exception due to drug culture

I always thought Judd was going home. His departure from WC was in some ways extremely similar to Dangerfield. The only difference being which Melbourne based club he actually went back to.

The drug culture just made the decision easier.

I think it might have bought his decision forward a couple of years

We wanted both Reid and Curtin. There may of been some thought to splitting pick one which would have ensured we took Curtin (but not got Reid). But apparently according to an ITK on our board, Harley interviewed so well that that was it, we were 100% all in, he was a lock for Pick 1 and so we began the attempt of trying to obtain that second top 10 pick to get Dan.

I am not an avid follower of junior football/development, but on the (very) limited bits I have seen, would have really liked to get him, but not to be. Happy he has gone to the AFC 😆 and I honestly don’t think he is a flight risk. Good to see Asterix’s post get the number of likes it has, he knows his stuff re the draft believe me.

You’ve done very well and I think he should be playing Round 1 next year, no question about it 👍

It’s a bit of personality, but he always did come across as somewhat cold and detached when it came to the club and talking about his contracts, whether he would be a one club player etc.

I think that he achieved what he set out to do, plus the injury and the issues of the time all combined to push him to leave when he did.

The drug culture is an interesting one, considering Daniel Kerr was in his (Judd’s) wedding party in 2010 and he (Judd) gave a speech to the Tigers players for Cousins 250th in 2009. I might need to get his book to find out if he elaborated a bit more about it all 😆

I can remember an interview in which he said he never really wanted to leave Melbourne. On the other hand he's always said he loved his time in Perth and loves the club.

And yeah, he been have struggling with his groins towards the end of time there

He's pretty smart. I've never really bought into him leaving purely because of the party clique at the club

Yes, very intelligent footballer and person.

The groin injury which ruined his 2007 (and possibly any chance of going back to back) was apparently one of the catalysts for him going, the talk was he wasn’t happy with the way the injury was managed and how he was made to push through and keep playing whilst injured.

So many different stories and the like from that time. We were fortunate he chose Carlton and in their willingness to get him, gave away a commodity which was acceptable to us (Kennedy).
Unlike Dangerfield choosing that foul club and only wanting to go there 🤬

I don't feel any particular animosity towards Dangerfield (now - was a bit pissed at the time)

I do feel animosity towards our list management at the time for rolling over for a tummy rub during negotiations

FMD - Wells mentioned in an interview a few years later they would've paid up another 1st rounder if pushed
