He's tracking well. Big improvement on last year and better again now than at the beginning of the season. His ceiling is enormous, maybe he becomes a Dawson/Hird type? At worst he looks like he'll be easily best 22 and be handy on a wing drifting forward. He also presents as a professional. Likeable, good manners and hints of Tony Modra when you glimpse that number 6.

But...

We've been in situations before. Tippett. Dangerfield. They cost us flags. They brought us pain.

We have a gun South Australian in Dyson Sharp at the top of the draft this year. Leadership. Midfield. Home grown. Gets it to Draper who kicks it to Thilthorpe and goal. Most likely Curtin's club of choice is the team that will have the golden ticket.

Do you do a deal?
The Tippet saga was a complete and utter disaster for our club. Not only destroying our good reputation, it robbed us of a generation of potential leaders.

Dangerfield leaving was a different matter entirely. Not even close to the same level of incompetence. If you call it that.
The club managed to beat Dangerfields Geelong to make a GF. One of our greatest victories. But the start of the rot was not so much losing to Richmond but how the club reacted to that loss. The 2018 preseason camp had huge consequences. No need to list them here.

Thankfully there has been a big turn around since then. Maybe not on-field as such, but our reputation as a destination club has improved to the point where we are attracting quality. It seems everyone involved with the AFC see a bright future, far from that nonsense of the past.
I think in this current environment, Dangerfield may not have left.

And if he wants to go to Fremantle ??

If we get 8 good years out of him like we did Danger im keeping him every day of the week.

Yeah he would've.

Mardi wanted out, she hated Adelaide. Then our coach got murdered which reinforced the importance of family.

I remember he confronted the club a few times about their future list planning before his contract was up.
I'm guessing our response wasn't what he needed to hear. I think he wanted to return home at some stage but not necessarily when he did. I genuinely think he was wavering between us and home.
The fact we made a GF before Geelong is a little ironic in hindsight.

If you're not going to stay when the club needed him the most, you never were

Shuestar13 - In a very hypothetical world, if Weagles got pick 2 compo with O Allen leaving - Would they put pick 2 on table for Curtin?

If (In the very very off chance) Dan wanted to go home, this could be about the fairest deal?

I really don’t know. I don’t follow the draft extremely closely. After the atomic meltdown from much of the supporter base last draft/trade period in moving on Pick 3, if we were to get pick 2 and give it up - 😬

In saying that, as it stands should we finish last, will have pick 1 also so that would lessen the blow and giving up Pick 2 to secure a fantastic young player with a couple of years development already wouldn’t be a totally bad thing.

I expect he (Dan) will stay where he is 👍

For what it's worth Champion Data have Curtin rated in the top 100 players in the competition.

All of his disposals have impact, his marking on the wing is so important. I wish we used our wings more in Curtin and Cumming because both of them use the ball very well.

It’s interesting to compare to Sholl last year, who got more of the ball but didn’t seem to have as much impact when he did (and has his obvious limitations) while Curtin and Cumming aren’t getting a heap of possession but are usually damaging when they do.

It would be great if we could utilise them consistently as they’re 2 of our most skilled players with ball in hand.

To be fair, with master negotiator Don Pyke at the wheel, I'd let Balme walk in because he'd walk out with picks 1 and 2

Curtin has played every game this season for the third-placed Crows, getting rewarded with a Rising Star nominee for round 13.

“I’m talking to my manager at the moment and we’re trying to sort something out,” Curtin told this masthead.

“He’s in talks with the club at the moment so just waiting. I definitely want to be at the Crows long-term.”

Curtin said he paid little attention to speculation suggesting he might want to head back to WA.

“I don’t buy into that much at all,” said the left-footer, who lived with teammates Hugh Bond and Zac Taylor.

“I’ve got family coming over all the time and I’m absolutely loving life in Adelaide. I love the group we’ve got, it’s super young but I get along with the older boys too.”
One of the best post's in ages.

With Curtin committing to us long term, I'm prepared to say our premiership window is now open.

Just a throw away comment that Harvey Langford and Curtin are the only two rising star eligible players in the top 100 in the competition for champion data - which i guess means on average would be in the top 5-6 players in any club.

Curtin's first half against Hawthorn was exceptional considering the conditions. BOG to half time?? Almost a breakout game? Yeah, faded in the second half, but I haven't been this excited since 2007.

Agreed. Nicks clearly has a role for his wingmen to play, and they seem to play it well, but like you said, he just doesn't use their ball handling skills to our advantage.

So... Dan Curtin gets mentioned as being the ONLY OTHER player in the top 100... and that's it. Not one other mention of him or the year he's having.

the point of highlighting Langford was that it's his first season in the system and so few have cracked top 100 in their first season

this is not Curtin's first season

Still pretty impressive as a second year player

As someone above said, that’s top 5-6 players at the club, on average

Had a strong feeling we’d regret not taking Langford. Cleary a lot more to play out. But geez he projected well.
Not the first time you bring up Langford

There will be no regrets - except I guess his family who continue posting here
