The way Kerr plays he takes a lot of punishment and I feel he needs to be quicker with disposal to stop him from getting tackled into the ground.
If he continues this, it's only a matter of time for him to get hurt.
Looked like it was a pretty hard hit he took in the last quarter
also Hocking should get suspended for that brutal tackle on Kerr in the third.

Hope his ok for Brisbane.:thumbsu:

Kerr is one of if not the best handballer in the league. He has lightning fast reactions, the reason he gets hit is because he either takes the contact than dishes it of to a teammate. The other reason is he takes alot of players on with 360s and other things.

I actually tend to agree with you, so often yesterday Kerr could've gone an option that wouldn't have got him crunched but he held on for it long enough just so he would. I think it was the third quarter he was almost running into an open goal and elected to turn back into traffic rather then to run away. He also fumbled at least 3 or 4 times rather then the usual 1 touch pickup. Hes probably lost a bit of speed but he was still very good. You need players that draw the tackler anyway because he creates a lot of space with the way he plays

Granted he was a little fumbly early - I think you have to take in to account both where Kerr gets his ball and what he tries to do with it. The amount of times he gets it around huge congestion is not unlike most other inside player - but Daniel at his best doesn't blast away. Yes there were a few times where he could of could of got it off - but i recon each time he had that option, taking the punishment was the right thing to do - giving it off would have lead to setting someone else up to get hammered or a turnover.

What sets Daniel apart from other inside mids is his ability to read the timing of when and where the ball will fall and his ability to hit that spot at top speed - and then find that open player often with that deft handpass that we love to see. The problem for me is not Daniel. The problem for me is the 'other teamate'. Perhaps its another part of our development but I just think the protection for the ball carrier is poor - and the spread after Daniel gathers is often a little slow. I know its not going to happen every time (this is why I love dan so much - the team thing to do is to take the hit) but a bit more protection wouldnt go astray.

This is a good post.
that's it, he needs more protection. He would be bruised and sore and likely in doubt for this week. His a great player and too good to lose come finals, just a little concerning so hopefully will continue his good form and lead us into finals.

But he's going to be a target based on how good he is and, historically, how he has reacted to provocation. Luckily the 'new breed' Daniel Kerr has been on show, maybe it's having a kid (although that's made me angrier for the past 11 years:p)? I also saw the younger guys go in to bat for Waters, like Shuey, Masten, Ebert, when L-M tried to take everyone on after Watson went down. So I reckon he gets protection, they're just going to target him.

He takes the contact and draws a player while freeing up an Eagle, its why he's such a damaging player. If Priddis would do the same instead of firing off the 1ft handball to a flatfooted bloke then Daniel wouldn't have to all the time.

Pretty much.. but Priddis doesn't have Daniels explosiveness and has to play within his ability.

???

i think we all have to be thrilled with the way kerr has bounced back this year.

when he has been on the park he has been consistently amongst our best. his ability to find the pill and get it to a teammate is almost unmatched on our team. only priddis is better at it i'd say.

he's lost a step or two but can still be very evasive.

can't really fault him on yesterday's performance. everyone seemed to have the fumbles. it was quite a sloppy game for long stretches.

:D

Yes, its ok for Priddis to get a 100% efficient 2m handball to a stationary Daniel Kerr who then gets hit trying to free up a team mate because Priddis is "playing within his ability"

I agree with you and it proves my point. He is no topline mid is our Matty ...

Our best starting centre square now is NN, Kerr, Shuey and Scooter, is that any longer in dispute?

Of course it's in dispute. Not that I disagree, though.

I like the fact we've been playing him off HF for periods of the game to give the likes of those three you named time in the centre together.

Watching Kerr get into his car - another week off may be in order

Poor guy could hardly moved. Struggled to get into his car.

If its just soreness from the game, he could still play depending how quick his recovery is. But if its more of an injury then club wont take the risk and will rest him

When Kerr first came back this year there was a lot of talk that it would take him a couple of weeks to adjust to the speed of the game coming of quite an absence from injury and certainly there were occasions where he was caught out for speed or held the ball that bit longer embracing opposition contact and being pinned holding the ball several times.

Kerr is a strong little bugger and can take the contact and regular punishment week in week out for this but I reckon his clearance work and creative handball is so important and that if we can afford to we should rest him for at least one week before the finals preferably against the Lions.

It has been great seing Shuey adding a little Kerr into his game, Shuey is the closest we have to a player such as Kerr and will be nicely at the peak of his powers when Kerr calls it a day. If we can manage Kerr well there is no reason why he can't go on for another 2-3 years.

Even if Kerr is sore as the day after, the game isn't for a week. Play him regardless (unless there's actually an injury) and then rest him for Adelaide if need be (and if possible). He needs to get a few games in a row headed into finals, otherwise he'll have to be rested for our home final following Collingwood, and I'd much rather have him fit and ready in the second game of finals than the first.

I kind of agree, as long as he's capable of playing. I'd rather get the win we need to secure 4th spot this week than have to rely on next week. Get it out of the way and then rest him against Adelaide if he needs it.

I actually prefer he not travel and play against Adelaide. Get him in the swimming pool and hyperbaric chamber, keep the stamina up while keeping out of contact. We don't need him to beat Brissy, and it's a long trip.

The "tackle" by Lovett-Murray in the last quarter center bounce didn't actually look like a tackle on replay. I actually think it was a deliberate elbow disguised as a tackle. They only showed one replay but it looked like he charged and flung his elbow into Kerr's side.
I may be wrong but would like to see it again and if it was an elbow then surely it's a strike that injured a player and should at least be assessed.
As far as the sling tackle goes, how's about a bit of consistancy:confused:, two months ago it would have been an instatnt report now not even a free:rolleyes:

Not even a free when the umpire had clear view of it yet he gets suspended. I don't understand how an action is worthy of a suspension but not a free kick.
