sarcasm not appreciated Goobers, its a bit different with vic boys moving to SA, they dont normally want to go, and definitely not to PA, T.Boak and his family didnt even celebrate when he got drafted by PA.. he was so sure he would go to geelong. and trengove lives on the border in between Melbourne and Adelaide

I can't speak for Port Adelaide, I don't know who they're going to draft, but you're telling me Port will disregard arguably the best forward & ruckman in the draft because they're Vic's? If they want them, they'll take them - if they don't want them, they won't, but I sincerely doubt the state they originate from is going to be the deciding factor in who they draft & who they don't.

Living in Adelaide or on the border, what's the difference? He doesn't live in Melbourne, & if drafted by us that's where he'll have to go.

Unfortunatly, given Melbourne are considering Ball at 11, I highly doubt they'd let him slip past 18.

We wont use pick 11 on Ball .. Its all game play .. If the Bombers really want him then they will have to do it at 10 .. If Ball is there at 18 then he will be an option unless a potential superstar has slipped that far.
I think Talia comes with a high degree of want i.e. I really think he wants to be a star of the AFL which is great to have at a club and his work ethic is second to none. We couldnt do any better if we picked him up ...

When interviewed he has spoken about how he loves playing forward. He is a beautiful user of the ball and moves very well for a big man. The flexibility he offers is a good thing as well. Yes, we are solid with key defenders but Garland has a serious injury, Rivers could get injured taking a shit and Warnock is 25/26. Having a player who can play both ends is a positive. David Neitz anyone?

All that being said I would not be unhappy if we selected Black either.

Agree. Could be the new David Neitz. His nickname has to be Jenny though.

Can't wait for tomorrow and next season. Bloody exciting!

His kicking action has massive flaws. Too hit and miss to be a forward...would much prefer Ben Griffiths and it seems he is now as much in contention at 11 as Talia.

lets just hope Garland can get over his injury, Rivers can maintain his health and Warnock can keep doing what he's doing for another 5/6 years.
Don't foget we do have Frawley who should be able to begin playing FB this year along with Martin for depth.

I do hope we pick up Talia however, as I like his style of play as he could complement both our forward or defence. If we do pick him I would like him to be developed as a forward and to only play defence when we have no other option.

Our forward line with Watts and Talia playing tall, Bate, Petterd and Jurrah as mediums and Wonamearri Maric and Jetta as smalls could be awesome in a few years time!

Yep its a good point but Talia at 11 is a must as Griffths will most likly be around at 18. I don't think we can have to many different forward option.

Especially given Talia's flexibility. He could even play a role through the midfield

Haven't seen either Talia or Black play, but I'd prefer an out and out key forward in Black, as opposed to a so called versatile Talia.

It's my belief that if you're a gun key forward, you'd be playing there at junior level, because it takes far more skill to be a key forward than a key defender.

History also shows that over 50% of the really good to great key defenders, player their junior football as forwards. Some examples are Silvagni, Jakovich, McIntosh, C. Cornes. And Neitz was a forward at junior level, and made the transition to a gun defender.

The point is, if Talia is such a gun, he'd be snapped up in the top 10. At the start of 2008, Hurley was considered a top 3 draftee. He slid slightly, but that didn't diminish his obvious talent.

Be wary of drafting TAC Cup key defenders.

And the rest of the argument associated to either becomes void by the bolded bit. I see your point however, though the fact you do not have any knowledge of their games soughta makes it null.

He said he hasnt seen them play, not that he hasnt heard, read or discussed anything regarding them.

Its not hard to have an opinion without having seen them live.

I don't have to attend the games to know that Talia didn't play as a forward in the under 18 carnival. And I also know based on what I've heard from the likes of Kevin Sheehan and some recruiting managers, that the 1st half dozen in the draft are standouts, and the next dozen are fairly even. And Talia has never been talked about as a standout. So based on what I've heard from people with greater knowledge than big footy posters, Talia isn't going to solve our need for a key forward.

So you obviously don't see my point.

That's floored logic. If balck was any good he would be in the top 10.

Black is far from a dedicated key forward, at 192cm and under 80kg's he is almost a big midfielder. If we want a big key forward then griffths our man!

Some articles say he did play as a key forward. So you confirm my point that you don't know anything about their games yet act like you do, thanks.

Perhaps if you had seen either of them play you would know their games then I would have no problem with what you are saying, but dont act like you know anything about them if you are basing it on word of mouth.

Black has some good form as a key forward at WAFL senior level, which I rate higher than TAC cup. You're right, there's no guarantee that he'll be a gun key forward at AFL level, but as both Talia and Black are rated around the same mark draft wise, give me the one who's considered a key forward (Black) rather than a versatile player (Talia).

Blacks best game he spent time playing in the ruck as well as up forward, and has played fair bit of footy a backman and on the wing too. I worry about Black not being a genuine KPP height and weight. He looks like he could be another 3rd tall type alah Bate, Jurrah etc. As for Talia, he has a genuine KPP build and always played forward until the Champs were he went back. Carlisle is the jack of all trades master of none.

I agree with your sediments however, I think we need a dedicated big body forward and outside of Butcher the next best 'out and out forward' is Griffiths, whom i am a massive advocate of drafting at 18, regardless of who we take at 11.
