I'm prefacing this with the fact I'm a big fan but wasn't he criticised 6 or so years ago that he, more than most players, found it very difficult to play through injury?

Absolutely! Was one of those players who had to feel 100% right to produce

I can’t think of another player who is as hard to define over such a long journey

Would Wells be on the top of that list? i.e of all the players who were destined to be absolute elite, has he been the one most crueled? At least of all the players still playing today?

Freakish talent, multiple ACL operations, no precedent for returning to play after that many ops, yet, when fit and not in pain, still oozes class and looks to be our most potent forward. At least Wells has played 250. Menzel starred in the 2011 final v Hawks, was devastating he missed that GF.

Watched 20 seconds of that and thought 2 or 3 free kicks wouldve been called from that.

A free for holding the man OR holding the ball. Depending on what mood the umpire is in or what is the flavour of the week.

A free for due to a player (not nominated) taking possession of ball after an umpire bounce...speaking of which, what a beauiful bounce in the square.

Its odd to question a bloke who has played so many games commitment to being a professional athlete but i think you need to with Wells.

The fact that he was forced to play half a game not at 100% and sends himself to an early retirement probably sums him up perfectly.

Pure footballer but man does he have some issues.

It's certainly hard to think of another current player. Allen Jakovich is my all-time though (Coleman second), Wells at least managed to limp to 250 games.
