Extremely talented player whose career was absolutely crippled by injury. Can only imagine the heights he reaches if he stays as injury free as Goddard has

Would Wells be on the top of that list? i.e of all the players who were destined to be absolute elite, has he been the one most crueled? At least of all the players still playing today?

Injuries aside, he was never destined to be absolutely elite, lacked the heart and commitment to reach and maintain that level for the appropriate amount of time.
 
potential that was never realised. From an observer who knows nothing about him and his situation, he looked lazy on field but also appeared to lack passion and drive for his career in general, and coasted on his natural talent.

Had flashes of brilliance like so many others and will be forgotten like so many others. Could have been a great but wasnt. He was what north got for Carey, as a pub trivia answer.
