Amazing player in full flight. As good as anyone at the top of his game. Outstanding field kick on both sides, elite vision and made others around him better players. Shame he was so inconsistent due to injuries.
Great effort to make 250 nonetheless.

I believe triggers for the third.

Anyway, if the injury ends his career (which is likely given his age), there’s an insurance payout like Seanny received isn’t there?

Got any links to back that up mate?

He may as well have stayed at North if that was the case.

Was he even offered 2 years at the Roos?

Not 100% sure but then again, I doubt anyone here actually knows what’s in any players’ contract regardless of what u want to believe.

As I said, most likely receive an insurance payment if the injury is that serious and ends his career. Just as Swan received.

Are you stating Swan wasn't paid out by Collingwood?

My take on that was it was a post contract payout.

Yes.

I believe he wasn’t. From memory it was one of the reasons we were able to pay overs for Wells and Mayne.

Don't take it personally mate, but without better proof I just don't believe it.

If that actually did happen then it would be a red light for an investigation.

It’s an afl scheme to payout career ending injuries. He only had 1 year remaining on his contract before he was going to retire anyway.

He was paid out $400k

Yeah, I remember that.

My take is he was paid out because he satisfied the criteria that he could have played beyond his contract.

Not yet to the same extent, but Jamie Elliott is giving it a shake.

lel - Big Footy home team bias at it's best there!

(Context - best ever players whose careers were killed by injuries)

Who knows. I’d think that would have been difficult to prove given he was vocal about the current contract being his last.

Of course he's going to do that (play the victim) if he is angling for a payout.

I think you have cracked on to a bit of revisionism when it comes to Wells.

Happy to be corrected if something of substance can be tabled.

It might seem like hyperbole, but he was genuinely one of the best players I've seen at full flight. His last few years at North (when he was injury free) was incredible, as he stopped looking for cheap, easy ball and started to crash packs to get it.

Too hot and cold to be remembered as a champion though. Great player, nonetheless.

We’ve been blessed with indigenous talent.
Jim and Phil, Winny Abraham, Byron Pickett, Wells, Cable to name a few.

We can all thank Kevin Sheedy for inventing aboriginal football.
