How come he is not taking the competition by storm, has his development stalled?

There was a passage of play on Saturday which underlines why he is regarded is such an exciting talent, on the boundary he took possession one hand, was running full pace, yet found an extra yard and burnt of his opponent, then put the ball into the path of Thompson. Unfortunatley IMO we dont see it often enough from him

Is it because hes playing in an ordinary team?

Is Laidley not getting the best out of him or using him properly?

Or is it something else?

No doubt he has the ability, now into his 4th year this should be the time that he starts to stamp stamp himself as a superstar of the compeition IMO

We are always asking ourselves the same question. Early on in his career it seemed like an endurance factor, but of late (the last 1-2 years) its become evident that Laidley is still holding him back. (BTW its good to hear something sensible come out of a Richmond supporter)

Not selfish enough. I'd really like to see him back himself more when he gets the footy. We've seen what he can do when he runs with the footy. His game against Hawthorn is a perfect example.

Postives:
* Best match winner at the Roos
* Very good skills
* Great football brain
* Dual-sided
* Goal kicking midfielder
* Versatile
* Leadership skills

Negatives:
* Playing in a poor side, thus gets the first tag each week
* Not selfish enough
* Teammates dont look for him often enough

Seriously potential coming out of his arse here, to call him overrated is silly. Very silly, no its not, its pretty F*cked up. Averaging 18 possies per game for a 21 year old is fine in a struggling team. He is not the type to get 30 possies week in week out. he is the Travis Johnstone type who gets 20 possies per game but absolutely towels you up, and let me tell you, he is a MUCH better match winner than Travis.

He will be a top 10 player in the comp.

Mark my word.

Simpson or Harvey would be the first they'd tag each week not Wells and he'll probably join Port Adelaide so he can play with Motlop again. Not a smart move to say you'd hang his mate Motlop out to dry in the PSD if they didn't get a decent trade. That brain surgeon Laidley who has traded away all their early picks and their future for hacks has probably inspired Wells to play in spite of him. :cool:

Will Wells want out of the Roos like Primus wanted out of the Lions when they moved up North?

You dont watch Wells do you?

Each game he has got the best tag and why on earth you would tag Simpson I have no idea. It would be like tagging Anthony Kouta, why would you tag him? let him have his clanger kicks.

I ask you a question now, has Walker ever been tagged? has he had an opponent? has he even won a match?

Wells gets tagged, Wells has won alot more matches than Walker (Even at age 19) and he gets an opponent each week.

Another thing that I've noticed from Wells is that he sometimes over complicates things. Runs too much and get himself into trouble, when he could have gotten rid of it much earlier. When it does come of it's great, but he gets himself into trouble too often at the moment IMO.

As for the Walker comparison, he's still developing (and is a couple years younger than Wells). He plays mainly on the HBF, so he obviously won't be tagging, not that his form warrants tagging at the moment. He's finding enough of the ball, but turning it over to often. When he fixes his disposal and plays in the middle more often he will be a very good player, and unlike Wells, has shown much improvement over the last couple of years.

He is only 1 year younger than Wells.

Funny huh?

Daniel is a very gifted player. Will be an AFL superstar in years to come. He is still only a boy as is BJ:D

70 or so games is more than enough experience. It's time he lived up to his potential.

Playing in a poor team is no excuse for a player as talented as he is.

I'm sure if you guys hadn't coughed up the top two draft picks, and he was playing at Carlton, I'm sure you wouldnt be spouting crap like this about a 21 year old with another decade in front of him.

With 30 games more experience. Both averaged same disposals at equl time in career.
Wells played wing mostly last year.

Walker playing loose this year.

Very easy to get loose possies in the backline.

If you could inject the mentality of a Wayne Carey, or Judd or Buckley into his head, he will be a superstar.

The only thing tht holds Daniel Wells back is self belief which is typified by the Hawks game, where he backed himself and ran through the middle kicking goals, and the Swans game where he was running through the middle, then just stopped because he didn't "dare to dream".

Deludio with the mind of Wells would also be a flash in the pan, but Deludio as is, has a confidence that rises him above others because he has the tools to go with the confidence, Wells has the tools, but not the confidence.

BTW, a good coach will be able to solve this one.

wells is a deadset gun , just playing in a team without a coach. i agree , if the team was copached better , wells would win a brownlow. the roos better get there ****e together or wells just may find another home
