Well done to the youngster a true product of the perth glory. Well done to the coaching staff.

Danze gets call from Young Socceroos

By Jonathan Cook

IF Perth Glory midfielder Anthony Danze is a little behind schedule, he is now starting to catch up.

After being overlooked in the initial squad for qualifying matches, the 19-year-old is not about to let slip an opportunity after being included in the final 20 for the world youth championship in the United Arab Emirates.

Though the Young Socceroos' preparations for the championship, which starts on November 27, did not get off to an ideal start on Tuesday, Danze has at least left his mark.

The former Joondalup and Australian Institute of Sport midfielder scored Australia's consolation in a 2-1 loss to Colombia in South Korea on Tuesday.

His ex-Glory teammate, defender David Tarka, who now plays for Nottingham Forest, was sent off late in the game.

Preparing for a big international tournament is not new to Danze, who played for Australia's under-17s at the world championships in Trinidad and Tobago in 2001.

It seemed only a matter of time before he progressed to bigger things.

But the battle to claim a regular spot with Glory has not been easy, and Danze does not mind admitting his career has not progressed quite as he had hoped.

But that could change if he continues to shine during the Young Socceroos preparations, and follows it up with a successful stint in the UAE.

Danze left to join the Australia squad last Saturday and could miss as many as another seven Glory games, depending on the national team's progress.

Depends how you measure these things.

Two years ago he was at Joondalup which is Southampton's academy. He was offered a deal with Saints but decided he would prefer to stay in Oz a little longer. He was allready an Oz junior international and an AIS graduate before he joined Glory.

Whats to explain he's a great talent and by choosing to stay with the glory and not go to southhampton he has earned his call up with the socceroos.

It's Young socceroos, there's a slight difference.

Given that perf are the championship chumps its a little surprising to have only one player called up?

Then what is playing for your nation?

Glory are Champions and don't have many youngsters who qualify for callup in the young socceroos. Some of our senior players Mori, Despotovski, Scotty Miller and Petkovic have all had international call ups at some stage during there illustrious careers.

Aren't those all household names

None of which are in Farinas plans.

Why don't you ask Tim Cahill about playing in youth teams and what it means to him.

Only to play against the Pacific Islanders, i.e. not so good sides.

Well said.

If he was a true product of the club, he'd be in the squad regularly - and not late thirty-something players like Matt Bingley.

He's a true product of the WA State League and nothing else, kingclive.

Well the Polish people should know what fascist are, right Clive????

OF course i know who you are referring to. But really do you think i got offended when that bloke made a natzi salute in the soccer match a few years ago to stir the crowd then you are wrong. We can't be too precious about these things.

Get your facts straight Maffew.

Bosnich made the nazi salute at a Spurs game, who have a large jewish supporter base

Bosnich did the Nazi salute to Tottenham fans who are made up of alot of Jewish people - big difference to doing it to a few Poles who themsleves have a huge racism problem in the league.

I read a great article in FourFourTwo a while back about Polish fans and frankly after reading that, it doesn't suprise me that you think calling a black player a monkey is OK and not in any way racist.

I wonder if he knows who Olisadebe is.

You talking about the great Emanuel Olisadebe is. At first stupid polaks threw bannanas at him and hated him. But he is that damn good they now adore his on field mayhem.

Am I right?

Partly. First Black player to line up for Poland. Had to leave the local league because of the racism he had to go though, including banana's being thrown at him, during his days in the Polish league my even his own teams fans and when he played his first home match for Poland the same took place. Now all the Polish fans do is make monkey noises.

Is that because he looks like a monkey Clive or is it because Polish people are racists????
