Outside of Cox we don't have any AFL Ready KPF's
True, and at this stage no reserves games, hard to develop one. Just think for this year we have to go with cox, the most likely to kick a goal, and let’s others of the chain.

Why’ll a scratch match is better than training, it’s still as u know td not as good as a match for premiership points,

Good Middle Ground as the AFL not allowing AFL teams and players to play VFL this year

Did he look like kicking a goal, which was his main job?

He looked vrey good presenting up to the wings as a hit up target. Did any forward on the ground look like taking an inside 50 mark? It was a game of messy hacks into stacked defences.

Yes cox does to. At this stage cox although is not great, gets dangerous and gives others opportunities because he attracts so many defenders

The way I see it is that we can either have a Cox/Cameron type deep forward as a target or up the flanks as down-the-line option. Sadly neither have the agility or running power to present up the ground and get back inside 50. Based on Thursday night we desperately need one at FF, especially if we are too persist with JDG through the middle. However if our short -lead-up kicking style out of the back line is stifled like it was in the second half then when need someone as a bail out kick down the line.

Sadly for us we either have Cox and Cameron, or Cox or Cameron. That sounds silly but when you look at other clubs, you understand what I mean. They have a "lesser" KPF they can push up the ground, Carlton send Casboult up the ground and leave McKay at home, Geelong send Ratagola and Hawkins is at home, same can be said for Finlayson and Cameron at GWS and O'brien and Patton/Gunston at Hawthorn. We don't have another option of a player who can consistently do either of those jobs, not that Cox/Cameron have yet either but they seem the most likely. We can either play both and the have luxury of having a long bail out kick and a tall target inside 50 but run the risk of speedy exit from our forward line, or play one of them and we give up either a target deep inside 50 or the alternative being the target down the line.

Personally I am not opposed to both being trialed, it would put huge pressure on the likes of Stevo, WHE, JT, Varcoe, Brown etc to be front and center and apply consistent forward pressure, the later being something I would expect from our forwards regardless of who's playing. Having the likes of Stephenson/ WHE/ Varcoe/ CBrown types I think there is enough pace and pressure there to make it work with both talls, plus Mihocek and the rotating JDG and Elliot. The other thing being that if we were to play both, we don't just blast it inside-50 every time, use the focal point of Cox/Cameron to create space and hit up leads for the others.

Did a few nice things and showed some promise, without every being a real threat. Was a sh!tehouse game really from both teams, under-prepared, poor standard, stacked back-lines. So, it was just good to see him do a couple of nice things in his first game.

Do you think that we are worse than the other teams or just got involved in a slugfest?

Either that or someone capable of running the ball out and providing overlap. We know Crisp can do it. Quaynor, where art thou?

Agreed, someone like Saad who can burst out of the back half, like Crisp, could help give us an option 2 when the kick-style play doesn’t work. I haven’t seen enough of IQ to know if he can be that type running defender. Sam Murray was doing a fine job of that before... well Sam Murray I guess.

The only issue with the running style out of the back half, is if you get caught you’re stuck. When the kicking style breaks down you can dump the ball long down the line and set the defence back up, if you’re caught running it out of the back half it’s a direct turnover in a dangerous part of the ground.

Completely agree, but I want options. It’s all well and good having tall defenders like Moore/Roughead/Howe/Madgen but we probably need to exchange a medium defender for a running defender so that we can have more run and carry when the situation dictates. Being predictable is a luxury you can only afford when your strengths can’t be countered.

I think we set up with a lot of numbers behind the ball and look to transition in a wave. If the transition gets shut down. It can pretty bloody boring.

I agree that having a player/s that can consistently provide some real run out of half back when required would be a great assets. Aside from Crisp and maybe IQ, do you think there is anyone on the list that can do that role? Maybe Noble?

If not, is it a role you would draft or target someone in player movement?

I think the trade for Murray indicates we are aware of the deficiency. Quaynor could definitely be that kind of player but he’s likely to start as a more negating defender, and take more risks as he develops a la Lumumba.

Think as the round played out we saw that some teams are a little ahead of others in terms of readiness to resume football. Don't see that we are any worse or any better than most. To me, both sides looked like teams that had had a long lay off and short preparation.

While Cameron didn't impact as a forward and it was far from a dominant display his 8 marks was 1 more than Cox managed in any of his 14 games last year.

Obviously he's a mature aged recruit and not a kid but in just your second AFL game and up against the reigning Premier I think he did enough to warrant another shot this week.

I agree, in general. I'd be happy whichever way they lean, if Cox was to get recalled as well, but maybe one more week with a solid scratch match hitout for Coxy first. So another crack for Darcy, hopefully playing a little closer to goal

*closer to goal when not in the ruck

What Postion when he was not playing in the Ruck you never saw him.

Did not Play Deep as a Full Forward and was no where near the Ball today.

Was not Great in the Ruck Either. Big Difference between Grundy and Cameron in the Ruck.

Don't play him Deep then might as well Drop Him

Was completely invisible, no pressure no nothing. You can see why he was playing swans 2nds. Shouldn’t play unless Grundy is injured.
