In recent history (say last 8 years) this club has a proud tradition of giving kids a go and backing them in big games and it's worked very well for us. I don't see anything wrong with a player like Moore being brought in for a big clash like the game vs the Hawks in and of itself.

Moore (and Maynard) didn't disgrace themselves or let the team down. They applied themselves to their role and put in good effort. It didn't have huge success for Darcy, but he showed he can follow a team plan, apply himself to the role the coach asks him, and also showed again that he's got some great attributes.

Nothing negative in terms of his development or trajectory can possibly come of him having had these chances.

Our current list (as well as most of the time under Mick) was built on giving kids a run, and giving games to those who showed they deserved it, rather than on names/veterans.
For most of the 2010 season it seemed like some of the "youngsters" were just holding the place a veteran who was waiting to come in... but as the season wore on, we realised more and more, that those "kids" were now our number 1 players - guys like Fraser, O'Bree, Tarks and Presti, missed out for guys like Blair, Caff, L.Brown (not a kid, but not "rated"), N. Brown, and of course the talent like Sidey and Beams.

Some guys - Langdon, Williams, Frosty (and probably add De Goey and Maynard) show that they are ready to play at this level - others show that they might not be ready just yet, but will still be better for the experience, and will (hopefully) come back stronger and more ready at a later date.

Not sure why we even selected him when it would have become clear early in the week Williams was to miss and Grundy was to replace him.

We should have just included Marsh in the squad who's be playing defence for a season and a half now or played Scharenberg.

Playing Moore forward one week, defence the next isn't doing him any favours.

Personally I want him developed forward, he's a more dynamic player up that end and we'll need a successor to Cloke in a few years and Moore is the obvious choice at present.

Agree - Keep him 1 Spot so he can get Comfortable in that Spot.

Agree he can become a Match Winner up Forward and Cloke Thing is Spot On

Moore is a Forward and should play and stay there

From what I has seen Moore is more a defender than he is a forward. I understand people love a key forward and we need another one badly, but that does not mean that Moore will be that player.

We can all hope, but I am not sure he will end up being that forward we want.

I seen him play very well Up Forward last year and was Did well there in the TAC Cup Final Series and well in u-18 Champs.

Well IF he is a Defender then we have no young KPF on our list then. Gault as only back-up and that nothing exciting

Where Moore ends up only time will tell. But I don't think it can be guaranteed it will be up front. Many a prospective forward has ended up in defence.

I am quite disappointed at the notion that the name "Jessica" must be implied as a girl's name.

Why can't us males be called Jessica?

Buckley needs to back Darcy and the kids for the rest of the year now .. He showed its all about the future by picking them against the top sides . Now stick by them bucks

For mine he impacts games more as a forward than a defender
Exactly against Box Hill those pack marks and conversion were enough to convince me forward is where he should be.

It would take 6-8 weeks of hime being uop there to figure out where he needs to be with the other guys running around

Agree with all you said except Sinclair was available & wasn't selected.

Sinclair was out injured for 9 weeks and has, I believe, now played the last 3 weeks in the VFL. I don't know if he's played a full game yet. Pretty clear to me that a fit Maynard is a better option than recovering (ie taking a risk he will be able to play a full game of AFL) Sinclair.

Elsewhere in this thread I saw your point about Greenwood. Has validity, but each injury is different with Sinclair's soft tissue injury carrying probably more unknowns than Greewood's. Reid is case in point.

Not sure what you're seeing, but he has a far more natural game playing forward than defence, in which he always seems to look like he's forcing himself to spoil, and he tends to do so even when reasonably clear rather than backing himself to mark.

As a general rule, first year KPF's will stuggle to make an impact compared to defenders, simply because taking a contested mark is a hell of a lot harder than making a spoil. There are little things that Darcy has show up forward though, that project him as an amazing forward. The two contested marks, and subsequent goals against Box Hill were fantastic, and even though he failed to make a real impact vs Hawthorn, there were several instances where his endeavour and willingness to put his body on the line in a marking contest weren't rewarded.
Conversely, against Port in defence, he was solid and probably had more of an impact, but at the same time, he didn't really show anything which made him look like a star defender in the making. No intercept mark attempts, lacked composure coming out of defence, and was smothered off the boot at least twice coming out of the back line.

I'd be extremely surprised if he ended as a defender. Looks like a natural forward to me every day of the week.

Could play either end at a high level if he keeps improving at the rate you would hope, but play him up forward, i will take a gun forward over a gun defender any day of the week.

I can see a similar comparison to Jeremy Cameron in style, Moore has the agility and speed to get off the chain and will probably take more marks on lead than in packs.

At the minute he really needs to bulk up obviously, and really work on positioning as i see this as a major area for improvement.

Could end up a good lockdown defender if played back

Could end up a superstar forward if the club keeps him there.

So you Try him as a Forward 1st and IF that does not work you still have the Option of sending him down back

He had nine disposals and two tackles, but more importantly led Collingwood with nine one-percenters.

“I think he is only going to get better,” Maxwell said of Moore.

“He made good decisions when he went to leave his man, but also he’s clean when he’s got the ball.

“Obviously it was a high pressure game, (it was) pretty wet but I thought he did really well.”

Maxy thinks Moore had a Good Game

Did Maxy discuss his opponent having 22 on him to half time? He's two games in so no doubt he'll improve, but if we're judging him by AFL standards it was a poor performance.

and I could name quite a few others in the Team Thursday that had poor to very poor games

Was he moving up the ground with him though? Because that's where he was getting most of his possesions. FWIW I don't think that he even had a big impact in the entire game. Most of those 22 touches were just random handballs in traffic from memory.

I liked a lot of Moore's efforts at ground level although there were a couple of balls in the air where he simply didn't compete and it was disappointing. My only big knock on him at AFL level is that he's a bit too slow disposing of the ball, but that's pretty common with new players.

Probably, but how many of them allowed their opponent to torch us in the first half aside from Toovey? Moore having his pants pulled down in his second game by a quality opponent isn't the end of the world, but we're fighting for a spot in the top 8 and if that match up goes say 5-10% better we win, IMO.

He stood him at a number of the stoppages up on the flanks. I also had Westhoff BOG until the Adams incident myself, but that was just my take I guess.

Don't get me wrong I like his competitiveness and willingness to get involved in all facets of the game he just shouldn't have played on Thursday night that's all. It isn't helping his development or the team the way he's been used this past fortnight.

De Goey seemed Rushed or too slow in his 1st Few Games with his Disposal

I'm not trying to say Moore had a good game, because I agree it was pretty poor if you're comparing him to the AFL standard KPD, was just pointing out I liked most of the signs I saw :P. Also not surprised that he did get toweled up at stoppages on the wing if he did indeed follow him up there considering he's probably never had to tag like that before.

Perhaps my problem is I haven't seen him do very much of note so far, which isn't surprising given his age and experience. Yes he has shown good athleticism and intent which is great, but not really shown much more. I fully expect we will when he gets a bit more experience.
