I had the pleasure of meeting the great man himself yesterday at my work place. I asked him about the knee and he replied "The knee is 100%, no problems at all." That's from the horses mouth people. Jolly's knee is fine and he is looking forward to the pre season says the guys are looking forward to playing under Bucks. Few internal changes regarding assistant coaches and who will be doing what, another assistant to come in. He said Witts is a ripping young bloke and has a bit of mongrel about him, rates him highly. I told him i loved him at which his wife laughed, great man Jolly. Very pleased to have met him.

Yer I tend to agree

A random person talks to jolly for the first time

"So Jolls how is the knee?"

"To be honest mate Im really struggling. I am hoping for the best but my career is in strife"

Of course his knee could be fine but I would not take anything as gospel from this meeting. I have not heard of any major surgery and he seems to be walking pretty freely in the days after the granny so I am hoping based on that he is ok.

Very good news regarding Jols as he still has a couple of years left in him and we'll need him because having seen Jarrod Witts at Station St Fairfield today, he still has plenty of size he needs to put on. At the moment either it is all in his height or the club is overstating his actual size because whilst he looked like a great athletic prospect with his physique, his weight certainly didn't look at 110+ kgs.

Peter Yagmoor was with him too so it seems he has moved to Melbourne already.

Both enjoyed a casual meal and stroll.

Jolly said before the Grand Final that him and his knee was 100% fit. Now we all know that was just a load of BS and that selection could of been the difference between back to back and what happened. I am just pointing this out and if you ask me Jolly's knee is likely to be as 100% as it will ever get again. Now what that is in comparison to what his knee was like 2 or so years ago is anyone's guess.

His groin was the biggest issue in the Grand Final. It is doubtful the selection of Jolly would have been the difference. Wood isn't up to it and Jolly was hardly terrible in that game. Not his best but competitive. I also doubt you have a more accurate idea about the severity of Jollys knee injury than anyone else in here.

Jolly had zero influence on the game, pretty sure Wood would have at least matched that.

From reports, the calls of a degenerative knee condition can come down to simply, no cartilage left in the knee and therefore the knee will degenerate over time due to the bone on bone wear.

If that is true and I've no doubt he has had some cartilage removed, I've known blokes, not AFL level though but professional sport, who've played another 3/4 years very good years with the same condition.

It just has to be managed. Ottens may very well have the same condition and he's eeked out 2 years so far with another coming.

I expect him to be rested for quite a few games in 2012.

Jollys' injury in the GF was groin related, not his knee.

I thought it was his groin that kept him down in the GF...

Jolly stopped Ottens and West being a big influence on the game in the ruck. It's hard to say how Wood would have gone as it's hypothetical. But worse would have been getting rolled in the ruck. Given Woods form over the year I thinks its very doubtful his effort would have been better than Jollys.

Wood should have played ahead of Brown due to doubt about Jolly but for those that wonder about what might have been had Jolly not played, I doubt Geelong would have kicked a goal in would record time which provided a nhige early lift for them and I doubt Swan's dissallowed mark would have resulted in the crucial Bartell goal. Jolly is a much better player than Wood but IMO had Jolly not played we would have been no wrose off and no way was Jolly fot enough to play. If we punted on Jolly though, Wood had to play for Brown.

PB, is that you in the avatar?

Had you pictured for at least six months younger that's all..

Oh, back on topic, yes I agree with thoughts that Jolly probably would say that his knee was fine, whether or not 100% true or not.

To me it would be a hugely pleasant surprise to see him 100% next year.

I was 'on-call' GF day so didn't get to the game. Jolly had his leg 'ran through' in the first quarter. By that I mean that he had his knees raised in a marking attempt when a Geelong player ran into the inside of his knee, forcing the leg out,

I saw him wince after the contact and he wasn't too flash after that movement wise. It wasn't the knee, it was the groin strain caused by the contact that screwed his GF up.

I think that was his first kick into the forward 50m. Quick snap and one of the Geelong players (might have been Wojac) ran into his leg and wrenched it sideways.

I'd say Wood's form was average during the year but definitely picked up towards the finals. In fact many were saying he was having the best patch of his career when he got inexplicably dropped.
And I seem to recall Wood nullifying Cox's and Nik Nat's influence not long ago and still copping criticism. To me that shows how unfairly harsh he gets treated on this board when our supposed messiah Jolly gets a pass mark for similar ineffectual performances.... There was a strong mail around Ottens wasn't right himself leading up to the game and we failed to take the advantage.
Jolly's movement and form were substandard for the last two months of the season in fact he looked like a mummy on occasions but everyone was waiting for him to make a miraculous recovery and hit his straps but guess what, he didn't.
I will be forever of the opinion Cam would have done better.

Look mate, I might not have Brad Pitt's looks but I still have my hair

PS. Jolly was having issues with his groin since the Prelim and looked really iffy at a televised training session, he didn't even jump in his short hit out against Wood. So its not surprising a little innocuous hit on the leg rendered him useless for the rest of the GF.

PB with all respect having your leg swept whilst you are in the middle of a kicking action is FAR FAR FAR from an innocuous hit.
