The man has finally arrived on the Test scene, silencing his many doubters. Overnight he shined and produce a magnificent innings of 160, despite the side being in a bit of early bother. Funny what having the confidence of the selectors does. We're finally going to see how dangerous this explosive batsman can be on the biggest stage.

He should hang on to the number four spot too. As he's done in that position what Damien Martyn couldn't - score a century.

i have never been critical of lehmann, i think he is a quality player but i will make one observation. that a guy might fail to live up to expectations for what seems an age and then one good innings means that his inclusion for the past umpteen games has suddenly been justified? Andrew Symonds springs immediately to mind.

whilst we are on the topic, if Damien Martyn is given forever to prove himself at #4 and one day gets a ton, will you admit he should have been there all along?

Yeah i wanna see some apologies as well from all those that doubted Lehmann and says he wasn't good enough
Well done Boof
You have done South Australia proud!!!

its about time he did it.

He's got enormous talent and has been extremely frustrating.

I dont think people have said he's not good enough - people, including myself, have been saying he's got to produce, and he wasn't.

Now he is, and he'll get the monkey off his back.

I've never heard anyone say anything about Lehmann that warrants an apology or even any acknowledgement of being wrong. A lot of people preferred Love or Clarke to Lehmann simply because of the age factor - and that is fair enough.

If Lehmann does have a really good tour, then I would have no problem with Martyn coming back in at 5 or 6.

I won't apologise for anything I said about Boofa. I have knocked him but probably said more against Martyn though. Leahman had to produce at some stage this tour or he was in trouble, talent and potential don't keep the selectors happy forever, glad to see it. I just want him to stay there because as he showed last night he can rip into an attack when he is in the mood and Martyn can't, also he's much better against spin.

In his 13 prior innings Lehmann has shown little at test level, it shouldn't take an established mature aged batsmen 14 innings to knock up his first century.

Prior to his big innings he only had a test average of 27 and people had every right to call for his dropping, if it wasn't for Martyn not playing Lehmann would have been dropped and wouldn't have played a match in the Carribean. He played well for his 160 but it means nothing if he can't back it up consistently, if he keeps playing the way he has played prior to his 160 for the rest of the tour then Lehmann will be joining the likes of Slater and Elliot in the 'never to play for Australia again' basket.

He should thank Asoka DeSilva- if it wasnt for those 2 bum lbw decisions he probably wouldn't have that chance in this innings.

arent you forgetting someone??? Drinks are on Boof at the end of the test, and i suspect Rudi Koertzen will be the first in line.

yeah, Slater had his fair share of a run though (1993-2001). many centuries and if memory serves, most nineties equal with tugga. I have a suspicion Slats was dropped and form wasn't the reason. does anyone else think the "team harmony" argument was raised in the selectors room for the 5th Ashes Test in England? ive heard slats was late for training and was caught with a young pommie bird in his room.

Slats was dropped "for disciplinary reasons" rather than because of form. That's common knowledge.
But Langer and Hayden grabbed their chance with both hands and Slats was never able to force his way back in. In 2001/02 he was even dropped from the NSW team for a few games, and although he got back into that team last summer his Test days are definately over.

Heard about it - didn't see it though!

got more of an edge on it than the one he WAS given out on. Interseting that Lehmann finally got the opportunity to bat in pressure situation, instead of 3 or 4 for 400 like his previous test innings. His previous best (98) also came when the side was under pressure in Pakistan, not suprising given how many times he comes in at 2 for bugger all for SA and scores a hundred. 1 innings doesnt make a summer though, he now must back it up

I apologize for underestimating Lehmann. I only tipped him to make a ton, and he comes out and blasts 150+!

It doesn't look like he'll get a chance to take wickets, given the way Gillespie is bowling.

Im still waiting for probably half this board to come out and admit they were wrong about Martyn and Bevan during the world cup.The 2 made absolute fools of there doubters.

i will apologise when he has scored consistently. one century does not make the man. i for one hopes he does it, he deserves all the accolades. i just cannot understand why people are always having a go at damien martyn. what has he done wrong?
