Have any of you guys checked out the David Bowie Is exhibition currently showing at ACMI?

The wife and I went over the weekend and it blew our minds. Such an amazing experience, not only a collection of his music, but of performance art as a whole.

You're given headphones as you enter, which work more as a soundtrack to the exhibition, rather than commentry. However the highlight for mine is towards the end when you hand back the headphones and you're in a room with others watching Bowie on the big screen.

Highly recommend, even for casual fans of Bowie. A feast for your eyes and ears.

Yep, I am obsessed with him and went on the weekend to check it out and I'll be going back again.

I second the recommendation for even casual fans although I'd say after you leave you won't be just a casual fan anymore.

i went with my mum last week and we had a great time deconstructing the visual aesthetics he embodied (only half-ironically).

i've really grown up around david bowie's music, my first dog's name was bowie, mum had pictures up everywhere and his vinyls on the wall. but jesus christ, how many bowie-bandwagoners are getting around right now? every lame-o this side of spring street is banging on about 'the transitions he went through' or 'the influence'. it's pretty lame given that i have actually specify to people that i was a fan before the exhibition (but i don't because that's kind of 'hipster' or whatever).

i really loved this clip, it preluded his career in such a short and simple way.

Thanks for the thoughts! I've only just moved to Melbourne and started uni, so I'm still settling in. Given my lack of time at the moment, I wasn't sure if I wasn't going to get to this - but you've just sold me!

Me and a few lads are going over to Melbourne and im def checking this out. My all time fave artist.
Can you just rock up?

I think you can but no guarantee of getting in. We booked some tickets, and you had to nominate a time (they are in half hour brackets). It said if you're late they will still let you in subject to capacity. Those tix are $25, and you can pay I think $40 to rock up whenever you want.

Go on Monday - Thursday if you can, less crowd. We went on a Saturday and it was busy.

Thanks mate. Will check it out on the Thursday then.

I saw this in Chicago, and it was incredible. From memory it took me 2 hours to really take everything in, and it was simply fantastic. Lucky that it's back in Melbourne. I'll hopefully see it soon. Anyone go to the gift shop? I really want to get the book that accompanies the exhibition, David Bowie Is... I didn't get it in Chicago as I didn't want to lug it around with me everywhere. Can some one suss out a price for me?

I'm heading to ACMI tonight for the Film Festival, I'll see what I can do.

Saw the book and tried to suss out a price but couldn't see one anywhere. The assistant pleb was busy and I had to head upstairs for my film. Sorry bro.

Big ****er of a book though.

Thanks bud! Yeah I think it's pretty much the exhibition in book form, so I'm excited to grip it, just have not had time to get down.

Pulse TV in Geelong will be doing a bit of a segment on the exhibition. Wll be on Cahnnel 31 at some stage.

Copped the book in my lunch break yesterday (Holy shit it was busy).

It was $70 but totally worth it. Incredible book.
