Most Essendon supporters are defending their club not hanging out for media reports. Just saying

At risk of running the discussion around in circles, how much more can a club do then:

a) Suspend those directly involved in the fitness program
b) Call for an independent review of club practices
c) Agree to ASADA to investigate and co-operate with investigations
d) Act on independent review (resignation of Robson)
e) Wait for the ASADA investigation to complete before acting further.

Should we be calling for Hird's head? Whilst players clearly still support him? Before the ASADA investigation is complete? I'm suspect many opinions of Essendon supporters will change once the ASADA report is complete, but until then, I see nothing wrong with fan standing by their team.

Surely Hird was closer to the decision making process with regards to this program, yet Robson and Evans who were not as close have felt compelled to resign.

When The Weapon comes out on Monday and says Hird instigated the program, will Hird feel compelled to do the honourable thing and walk, like the other 2 who were less complicit?

I've actually read a bit of the thread on the Essendon board, and this blaming the media stance seems to be a pretty common theme.

I'll tell you now - I'm the last person to defend the media in this country.

But they can't report and speculate on a story if it isn't there in the first place. Ie, no highly questionable supplement programme = nothing to report.

Evans wasn't under pressure because of the media, he was under pressure because of the actions of his own club and the ensuing investigation.

Essendon supporters really need to start being realistic in relation to all this mess and not blaming external parties and entities for its unfolding ramifications.

The media are chasing hard because Essendon have been covering it up hard.

Threatening media outlets with lawsuits last year if they ran early with the story only served to set the attack dogs onto them.

Essendon are the architects of their own demise.

The fact that they were under the spotlight of the ACC only serves to reinforce why this was always going to be such a huge story.

Are these moronic Essedndon supporters having a go at the ACC as well?

To all the Essendon fans who claim that non-Essendon fans have already made up their minds, regardless of the content of the ASADA report.

This is not the case, at least with me.

If the report comes out and ASADA clears Essendon on everything they took, and explains why everything they took was officially approved or didn't require approval, then they are 100% innocent. I think the media will be shocked, and will apologise.

However, most people, including myself, don't think this is likely. And because it seems so unlikely, people like myself will blame the actions of Essendon over the actions of those reporting the actions of Essendon.

My criticism isn't of Essendon's response, it's of supporters who portray Essendon as a passive entity with no responsibility for where it finds itself. That attitude is undefensible, you don't have to await ASADA's report, isn't the Switkowski report enough ? Unsupervised suspect "sports scientists" encouraged by the coach, regular injections at off club premises, footall department that at best is unaware of the practices, at worst involved in them, at best suspect substances, at worst, performance enhancing and personally dangerous substances, players used in experimental situations, sackings, suspensions. Essendon's current position is to be under investigation and controversial for all the wrong reasons. That's now, before the ASADA report comes out. Blaming and attacking Caroline Wilson, the media, other clubs, investigators, Demetriou, excusing what has undeniably occurred is indefensible, that's not "supporting" the club, that's supporting those who are responsible for where the club is. If Essendon members and supporters hadn't been so unreservedly "supportive", almost head-in-the-sand like, then those responsible might have been doing something about restoring the club instead of holding out as long as they can trying to pretend nothing is wrong.

Evans will return to highly successful business and forget about this in a few days. He has not lost a job, he has forgone a voluntary position.

I think people would take Essendon's players and supporters more seriously on this bleeding heart if they had given even one iota of passion towards Dean Robinson. The hypocrisy is staggering.

The only people who have offered support to Robinson are the Geelong players, he has been treated disgracefully and I am pleased he is going to finally have his say, as to this point he is the only one who has held his counsel.

Most of you wanted The Weapon dead a few months ago wondering how the low life scum can live with himself. Now you love him and are looking forward to what he has to say because he's innocent in all of this. If Robinson is innocent then so is everyone else.

imo Wilson is hands down the most courageous journo in the pack. goes where others fear to tread. almost always right (which must terrify Essendon people in this matter) and nothing personal to gain from the threads she chases. I've been saying this for years. I don't know why she cops it so much. So much of the vitriol directed towards her is based on her looks, which is embarrassing to read. I don't care if she looks like a model or a wookie, she is there to dig deep and she does it better than anyone else inthe game. And if she gets the odd one wrong, it's because someone somewhere has fed her false stuff, which most probably is a story in itself.

Evidently this whole massive drug program is meant to have somehow happened with no one knowing about it, or being actively involved in it's roll out. It is all very reminiscent of the Lance Armstrong cycling team. Everyone protesting their innocence, but all integral to it's operation.

It will end the same way.
