You're so emphatic but you haven't listed a reason why he's not. He certainly has the experience and acumen. Do you base your opinion on perceived character flaws or are you just being glib as the perennial "moderator"?

I don't need to list a reason.

I am not a fan of his coaching style and he is not my choice which is my opinion.

What has being a Mod got to do with anything.
Didn't realise Mods were not allowed an opinion.

Talk about a glib response to my post!

Why must our "man" be a man - why not the ex-Netball coach who's equally delusional.

I was responding to another poster.

“Lloyd conducted a series of mini-reviews into the club’s football department throughout the 2019 season, but now the club’s board believes an external set of eyes is needed.”

Get this joker out of our club. Hopefully the review covers his position as well.
He doesn’t sound for the review because he’s going to be found out
I can’t imagine he comes out favourably from this review. He recommended the Teague appointment to the board, he signed off on the McGovern contract and he didn’t refresh the assistants at the end of 2020 when there was an obvious need too.
He also heads up the football department that formed the view we were on the cusp of finals at the end of 2020. He’s either overrated the list or completely misread our coaching situation or both. Either way it points to someone who is way out of their depth. And last weeks SEN appearance was demoralising to listen to. Our head decision maker in the footy department was completely lost for answers.

You just listed your reason as his style of coaching - so you did give a reason but this may not be your primary one. Opinions need to be based on reasoning and you undermine him and the Club by not explaining yourself. I think he is a perfect fit. Coached at the Swans under Roos, taken teams to Finals, almost won GF's. See, what I have done is supported a proposition. What you have done is glibly dismiss him. Oh yeah - barracked fro Carlton as a kid!

Hard to think another coach could get much more out of SPS, Dow, LOB etc.
Not really, I can see how they'd all be succeeding quite easily in other with better older players around them, especially Dow and Sps.

Edit: Quick edit - I think many of our younger players could be streets ahead if our older brigade were Hodge, Shaw, Birchall etc types. Unfortunate that we could never quite grab one of those experienced types.

If we had a choice:

Lyon or Clarko

Or

Neither.

I ran a cafe where my customers included legends from our 70's side - they hate Richmond to this day. If you think that Clarko would even be welcome to Carlton then you better talk to Aitken and the O'Sullivans. We're at war. The Balme suggestion is nonsense and Choco chose when he advised Shiel to go to Essendon. Wake Up everybody!!!

The Age is reporting End of Year has been brought forward to now .... players are not happy with mixed messages from the coaches ... plural !!
Good move by the incoming president to get the review underway now. That way by the time the end of the season comes, he will have his agenda set for the reform of the clubs footballing department.

At least one player has talked about the lack of clarity in the team’s game plan, while another questioned elements of team selection.
That first point was pretty much one of the key takeaways from the 2018 review: that the gameplan was too complex.

Back in 2018, the other points were:

- fitness levels in younger players (we got Russell, and that seems to have picked up a bit)
- player development in the VFL (this only really started improviing this year, and it's still tenuous IMO)

We're kinda going around in circles, but I would blame current player fitness levels on being ground into the dirt with a dumb shit game plan that exhausts and then injures them.

Definitely, can you imagine SPS and Dow with a Mitchell type in the midfield mentoring them.

Sam Mitchell was always one of my favourite players, not big or athletically gifted, don't think he was that overly talented either. Just read the play extremely ****ing well and worked bloody hard.

In 2019 when Lloyd was doing his "mini-reviews" he was ticking everything off as ok. If sacking a coach in the middle of the year and only winning 4 games for the year was his definition of ok, I'd hate to see what his definition of the club falling apart was.

And very good at trolling the drug cheats :D

I all-but begged for us to drop Barker and chase Mitchell at the end of 2018. I would have made him one of the highest paid assistants in the game.

I understand he's seen as Clarkson's heir apparent, but we could have had for at least a couple of years if we'd been smart about it, and perhaps would have had a replacement if Teague ultimately failed.

I'd suggest at that time he was following the KPIs associated with the recommendations made in 2018.

I think there were a number of us in the Mitchell camp there Jim... him and Hodge were both fan favourites back then.

Sam Mitchell is another untried coach, not sure if he is the answer.

I don't give a shit about untried and tried, I give a shit about smart operators who recognise how far they are along their path to becoming the best coach they can be.

I thought that was David Teague, and to an extent, I still do. I do think that is Sam Mitchell.

I do not think that is John Barker. I think Lyon and Clarkson are by and large over the hill and not interested in making the same fundamental investment of their time and tactical/player development that drove them to their career best performances.

On the criticism of the game plan - anyone got any idea why we never seem to play a spare in defence - even just for small parts?

Many teams use a plus one in the backline - I’m assuming we have ours around the ball when it’s used against us?

I understand it’s usually only temporary (well at the level I’ve played) due to the mismatches that inevitably occur across the ground - but it’s a proven method of stopping run ons.

Genuine query.

Teagues demeanour has definetly changed. There is fustration, and he certainly can see the issues but im not sure he know hows to change it.

Selection and positional moves have seemed strange/shit and contributed to our losses but they may be the difference in games when we lose by <10 points. We are generally not in the hunt, we dont have enough player prepared to put their head over the ball when the going gets tough. We have become a bruise free team.

The next 5 games i would love to see Teague set the team goal to be to win contested, 1% and tackling. Get back to the basics. At training spill the magnets and put the centre square setup up for grabs. See who wants it more and reward. No more favourites.

And the ridiculous thing was the AFL gave him a bigger whack than the drug cheats themselves!!!!
And all he did was comment, through interpretive hand gesture, on what the drug cheats did. So he really got whacked for telling the truth.
