If I wasn't there already, I'm done with Teague. Scoreline/stats flattered us last night and gave him the bailout quotes he wanted for the presser. Port had the game won early and simply turned off the jets and coasted for a quarter and a half. They could have flogged us by ten goals if they wanted/needed to. If this game had happened two rounds earlier and we were 0-3, the knives would be well and truly out. Teague was outcoached by quite a large margin by a very good coach. Port knew exactly how to beat us after seeing our high, aggressive defensive line over the past two weeks and our defenders got caught out early with balls over the top. Once they knew they were in trouble our defenders sh*t themselves as did their defensive structures as they had no Plan B. We're in real trouble (again) this year unless something changes in a hurry.

Teague (like Bolton) is in way over his head. I cannot stand Ross Lyon, but this club needs a seasoned coach and/or football boss with some gravitas willing to make calls on both the playing and coaching group sooner rather than later.

It will go down as a very poor decision .. he hasn't looked fit enough at any stage - he has small cameos in games but I'd rather Lyon at Brisbane for a pack of chips as far as midfielders go .. hope I'm wrong but he will play the last 4 years of his contract from half back
Bit harsh, has been suspended and injured already. He was far from the worst last night.

Playing Kennedy on a wing says it all. Bloke is a strong inside bull that can't run. Perfect winger I hear.

Teague is deadset clueless and accepting of piss poor effort from our leaders. The drums are beating and should be.

Alternative is clean out the assistant's and give him one more year.

It’s hard to judge a coach who most likely feels pressure to pick Murphy, Ed, Levi and Eddie most weeks. We as supporters were saying only last year that we need that experience in the side, that we can’t get rid of our senior players and those 4 especially were referenced. Well, we have them in the side every week.

The pressure will be on to surpass 80k members next year. Either things improve or we'll be getting a new coach.

Yes. The CEO and others have led the charge with sorting out the business side off the park. I think a lot of members understood the commercial side of the club had been in a downward spiral for decades and that had a (potential) adverse impact on the footballing side of things. Now that's sorted out there is a natural expectation that the football department pulls its weight and sorts out the onfield rabble. Benchmarks have hopefully been set for what is and isn't acceptable (i.e. finals) and if they're not achieved, swift action will follow.

When is this clowns contract up? We cant afford to waste time if he is not the right coach for us. He has not idea nor want to develop young players. He thinks that by playing our older players there are better chances of us winning therefore helping his cause out. Why cant we ever get the coaching aspect right. It’s not a matter of adding talented players, its getting them in the right mind set to compete which is what no coach we have can do. I think one main glaring aspect is accepting poor performances by players and them not baring any consequences for these performances. GWS dropped their captain and look at them now. Do you think we would have the guts to drop Docherty, Cripps or Murphy ? Nope Nope and Nope..... Something is wrong with this club.

Keep Teague but get him some outside help like a Ross Lyon,Neil Balme type to have a fresh set of eyes and get rid of some assistants and is ready to make the calls on dropping blokes like Murphy,Eddie etc Teague was part of the team under Bolton he needs better support from assistants and an older head to take some heat off him.
We can't just keep sacking coaches get him the help he needs.

Agree 100%, wake up Teague, you don’t play Setterfield and Kennedy on the wing.

Don’t mind teague but struggle to cop that press conference ‘we’ll practice the skills at training’ etc
Give me a spell! These guys have been around long enough now, we aren’t talking about first year players.

Appreciate you can say whatever you want at the presser and what good comes from calling out shit efforts but cmon man.
Either our drafting, development or entire culture/ethic/mentality is garbage. sick of seeing kids of other teams show more (skill &/or intent &/or work &/or grunt) than some of our early picks who have been around long enough.

We are 2-3, which whilst not great, is not a season killing start like 1-4.

It's all very well to criticize his selections and gameplan, but talk about sacking Teague/replacing him at this point is extremely premature and silly.

Im not confident he can improve us much further. He did well as forward line coach at crows but not seeing enough to show he can be senior coach atm. Where are you seeing progress from here on in?

We got smashed pretty much for 3 and a bit quarters by Port and lost by only 28. We had as many scoring shots as Port and missed some real sitters.

In season's gone by, we would have wilted in final stanza and lost by 10 goals plus.

And we were down on personal.

For me the most irritating thing this year is that we played an average game against Collingwood and lost. And then we came out like a house on fire against Fremantle with such an intensity that we bullied them. If we come out next week and play a blinder and beat Brisbane. I would be happy with the win but irritated that we only seem to play our best footy half of the time and after a hard week on the track. Our best sees us with a 3-2, possibly 4-1 record. Our best only some of the time has us with a 2-3 record and playing a very good Brisbane side next up.

You have a point about us not getting thrashed these days. I don’t know the underlying reason for this. However whether we win or lose its hard to see much in the way of improvement in our general play.

Dead man walking. Luke power and lethal incoming.

was thinking along these lines .... play the % ... great coaches generally have been premiership players under an equally great coach

Barassi / Norm Smith
Parkin / Kennedy
Matthews / Kennedy & Parkin
Sheedy / Hafey
Hardwick / Sheedy & Williams

Clarkson the obvious exception but he did play under Kennedy

no Issues getting a new coach but think they need to have had premiership success as a player ... the Brisbane Lions dynasty is right for the picking with either Voss or a Luke Power !!

We can't just keep sacking coaches get him the help he needs.

don't write much but like the banter on the threads agree 100% on last nights performance was just a rubbish night and me yelling at the screen didn't do much for my Sons like for the CFC i knew we were not going to win within 10 minutes of the game which made the game so much worse to watch.

Anyway before we remove Teague i agree with above I know many share same sentiments the assistant coaches need to change after last year with so many good coaches removed and more available due to soft cap changes ideal time to shake up the Coaching assistants
re look at Sydney they were on the right track but they bring in Don Pyke and has added so much to how Sydney have played this year with a lot of young though shown to be good talent.

Re Goodwin at Melbourne don't rate him as a coach another who lucky to still be coaching but Melbourne bring in Williams who i dont like much but he is a premiership coach and has good footy IQ from how i read Melbourne Williams has made a big change to how they play
Carlton - same old brigade - John Barker should have gone ages ago not even sure why he hasn't been changed - Stanton / Bruce again can we get better especially with some options now available.

So who could we bring in - Justin Leppitsch heard him speak seems to have good footy IQ would also add some hardness to the Blues and hopefully be a voice to help make harder decisions / Dean Solomon - heard good things someone else may know more but was well liked by Players and maybe the fact Dew felt threatened may also mean he would offer another voice / Ross Lyon maybe as a senior assistant to help guide Teague - Obviously if you got Leppitsch and Solomon you wouldnt get Lyon but i am sure there are many other options around but i have no issue the Blues look to change assistant now not wait until end of year bring in a new voice and set of eyes get rid of someone like Barker that has been there for a decade and not sure now what he even offers

Collingwood are 1-4 their only win against us in which we made them look like the next premier .
We where lucky we came up against an injured freo away and Gold Coast .
Lets face it we have been ordinary given our formline with the draw coming up if we get even 2 wins in the next 5 id be surprised .
Need to look past the 2-3 and look at our systems what are we trying to do ?.
How are we trying to play ?
Played bruise free footy in the first 2 weeks the coach blasts them fired up against a pathetic freo then lacklustre the last 2 weeks .
Also dont agree with sacking the coach at all this season but Imo the concerns are valid .

Here we go again the typical Carlton thinking "lose a game, sack the coach". Wake up and see that it is the players that are at fault for last nights performance - effort is the bare minimum that is expected of any player. Forget about game plan, strategy, line-up just plain effort and we didn't give that last night. Stop acting like sacking the coach will save us, it is up to the players to respond and show consistent effort and composure every game. I hope to see that against BL and on another minor note hope to see Stocker at the AFL level.

I wrote this in the preview thread a few days back before the Port game...

I have never once in any of Teague's press conferences heard him mention the goal of playing finals. He has never said "finals or bust" or looked to be hungry for finals footy, despite this being our 6th year of the rebuild.

Before the Collingwood game Teague said that he isn't worried if we go 0-2, because Collingwood was in that position during 2018 and they made a grand final. What is the point of saying this? It's accepting mediocrity before the game had even begun!

Now today's interview on SEN, pretty much admitting that we're not up to the standard of top teams. I ask, where is the mentality?
