I'm gonna say it. I'm off the Teague train
Questionable selection and questionable non-existent game plan.

Whether its because he needs more help from better assistants may be the issue

Still on the train, but wondering if I should get off at the next station.

As others have said, hope its just a COVID thing, why we haven't gotten rid of some of them.

Carlton players seem to made of paper mache as they're absolutely ambivalent to tackling anyone. How the coaches haven't gone ???? start sticking tackles you campaigners. Find it very hard to believe they wouldn't be aware of 18th for pressure, 17th tackles.

Completely ridiculous still bombing it in, non-existent forward pressure aside from a 34 year old man, forwards running into each other like we're under 15's football team, makes us look completely ridiculous.

Thats it, theres no effort! that should be a non-negotiable, you cant make an excuse for lack of intent

If Teague is actually saying behind close doors that we were close to port last week and only just got outplayed, then this is concerning

TBH I'm wavering too.
Still believe, Teague needs a go with better assistants and help.

But Immunity Continues for Betts, Murphy, Casboult & Newnes
SPS still stuck down back, blind Freddy can see his not a defender and leaks goals, but they persist.

Cripps and Walsh need desperate help, but there is no room in the middle for Stocker

Williams is elite HBF/ part time mid, but they persist full time mid

Teague stated our game plan is to our strengths, but I believe it exposes our weaknesses.
We play to wide and unaccountable to each other..

It's basic football, what I used to coach at U16..
  • Narrow the ground when you don't have the ball.. Promotes numbers at the ball, pressure on the ball carrier, defence, teamwork and turnover.. Richmond Style
  • Widen the ground when you have the ball.. Promotes space, time, targets, run & goals
Also playing this way allows you to use less energy than the opposition, cause they are always chasing..

Not sure why we don't do it

Absolutely nailed it with that post. It’s so glaringly obvious but he’s to stubborn

What’s with this narrow the ground crap this week. Is it because Garry “I’ll sleep with your wife” Lyon mentioned it on the Couch ?

Not sure what Lyon said, didn't watch any footy shows this week.

Nothing new, it's football 101. When I coached U16, we used to teach it to our players.
This was pre covid, so I may be out of touch..

Narrowing the zone to half width, shrinks the oppositions space, forces (easier) pressure on ball carrier and turnover.
It also allows you to spread into space on the turnover and make the opposition chase all day..

You need to have skilled, well drilled, team orientated players, to do it at a high Richmond level..

Good examples are Richmond, Sydney first 4 rounds, St Kilda last quarter Vs West Coast and Western Bulldogs..

One thing Teague needs to do is have a good hard look at how he is developing players and the roles he has designated them in the team.

Here's some examples.

Ed Curnow is an ordinary player who is afforded huge opportunities and plays a key role in our side. I think most coaches would have pushed him to the outer. By that I mean playing as SUB, more bench time etc.

Setterfield in any universe is not a wingman. However he's a strong tackler and an inside midfielder. How is it that Setterfield has not been used and afforded the same opportunities as Curnow? Setterfield should be developing as a run with player in the centre.

Dow is another. Was drafted as a very high pick as a key onballer. The guy has played his whole career as the main go to centerman but has came to Carlton and become anything but. Yes he has deficiencies in his game such as his kicking, endurance and lack of an outside game however he has never been played to his strengths. In the senior side he plays half forward (he isn't one) and when he goes into the centre we never play through him, if anything it appears we try to keep the ball out of his hands and we should be doing the opposite and trying to get the ball into his hands. I'm not sure what Dow's role as an onballer has been but it certainly has not been what he was drafted as and that is someone to direct the footy to and hunt the footy. This is where our onball leaders such as Curnow and Cripps need to step up and be a little less selfish and take the heat and direct the footy through our youngsters but they don't. There is no way Dow will develop into a decent player in Carlton's team with our coach's and our leader's philosophy on how young players should be used in the team.

O'Brien is a player with pace and skills but lacks an inside game. I think in this case this might be failed drafting however it just seems to me that we continue to use him as a defensive wingman which he isn't. Perhaps we need to play around with his role before making final decisions on him.

Owies. Here's a player who just keeps finding the goals but we persist with an old go nowhere forward line. Murphy and Betts. These two aren't working. Gibbons was kicking goals and playing great. Betts comes in, kicks less goals and Gibbons is moved up field where he's not kicking goals. From this season we are seeing Betts replace Gibbons, do worse than he is and someone like Owies kicking plenty of goals and applying plenty of pressure and languishing in the reserves. Makes no sense. Owies would be perfect in the half forward role Murphy is in. Murphy is just an ordinary player, his games are ok but at his age you play the young guy who is kicking all the goals don't you?

SPS has clear deficiencies, he's soft, there's no nice way to say it. However he was drafted as an attacking player who was mostly a centerman. For the lift of my I can't see how someone could play that midfield role as a very non-contact player and I have defended the coach for not playing him in the midfield however that doesn't mean it should not have been tried.

Cuningham has been playing well in the reserves as a centerman. Makes me wonder what role he will play when he comes into the team though? Will we play him in the center or give him a position or role where it's hard to find the ball.

Then we have Stocker. Comments are he's a great kick, he's tough and that we really rate him and that his VFL form has been good but it's taken a 38 possession game and pure dominance to play him. You have Curnow (can't kick), SPS (soft), Dow (struggling) etc etc in our side and this guy in the reserves. I just wonder what second rate player management Stocker is walking into when he plays.

For what it's worth I would play Curnow in the seconds and give the tagging role to Cripps and lay some responsibility on him to bring the young players into the game with strategy and direction out there because that kind of leadership is absent from our team.

Using players like Dow as sub, players who need games and need to develop, dumb.

It's stuff like this which makes me wonder whether Teague can coach at all. He's done some good things but he's been terrible with how he's developed young players within the team, terrible with his favouring of older players, very slow to realise things both match day and team/role selection. I have no doubt Teague is on real thin ice, he really needs to get this right. He can't seem to identify when the right time is to say goodbye to his older players and play the young ones.

There is definitely a player development problem at Carlton and I believe our onfield leadership and coaching tactics are largely to blame.

just like an overzealous mother proclaiming her 80kg 12 year old boy is not overweight but big boned.

Beat up an injury depleted dockers team and scraped by against Gold Coast.

Been comprehensively outplayed in every other game.

The team has not improved since he arrived despite a lot of investment through trading and high draft picks.

Train has derailed. Bring in another senior coach.

We need a team with the right mentality and who have proven success at well run programs

Footy Boss: Neil Balme

Coach: Michael Voss (Port)
Senior Assistant/Forward: Justin Leppitch
Midfield: Robert Harvey (Coll)
Midfield Transition: Nigel Lappin (Gee)
Back: Adam Kingsley (Rich)

Development: Luke Power

Add to this no system. We rely on talent to keep us in games.

Reminiscent of Ratten era carlton.

Thats not modern football. Absolute joke.

Gawn by Monday ... that 2nd quarter was soulless!!
Huge system failures compounded by a coaching staff that seems to be incapable of making a change during a quarter to help stem the tide of opposition momentum as they seem to prefer to sit on their hands until a quarter break to make a change, if they even do half the time. It's ****ing ridiculous. Be prepared for more media about the '5 goals in a row Blues'.

Teague is done I reckon.

Our list is shit, too many selfish and ego centric players at the club.

Quite frankly I an starting to believe losing Cripps and cashing in our compo pick, and retaining Teague is the best way fowards for our club.

We are miles off a flag. Miles off it. We took shortcuts with our rebuild under SOS and are now paying the price.

Stick with Teague, lose Cripps and rebuild via the draft is the best course of action for this footy club.

Teague is not helping with this. He’s promoting this culture by continuing to play players who aren’t performing
