There's just too many quality coaching options out there for us to continue with Teague for another year.
The thing is, we haven't actually backed a coach in since Parkin.

Brittain made way for the disastrous Pagan era, which draft penalties or not, was not ending any differently. We enjoy reasonable success under Ratten, but could not resist the lure of yet another dinosaur in Malthouse, and then we've gone the rookie coach route thereafter. 20 years...those who do not remember their past are condemned to repeat it.

We're back where we were in 2008/9. An inexperienced coach with attacking flair and not enough support.

Tigers got there house in order with a strong footy department and suite of assistants. Collingwood have always attracted strong assistants. Hinkley looks a genius with strong assistants.

Might just be something in it...perhaps we take a deep breath, throw our arms around Teague, and get him the support and additional resource he may need.

Or we could plant some more magic beans...
How many times did we sack Parkin again?

Was it two or three times?

The problem with the Rattan/Malthouse changeover was, decisions were made by people that were reluctant in their positions in the first place. Kernahan was only ever meant to be a VP conduit for Pratt and in the short time they shared ideology, perhaps kernahan was seduced by the best available at any cost mantra, and at the time, it appeared Malthouse may have been. The alternative was, Rattan needed help, the list was heavily injured, but all that bought was an opportunity to turf a favourite son for a nut case - and we lost good players (some are still playing).

I often wonder how things would have turned out if Pratt didn't pass so soon?
I'll never forget the question Kernahan was asked after Rattan was sacked.
"If Malthouse wasn't available, would you have still sacked Bret"? he looked at the camera, nearly choked tears, paused and said, "I don't know"

Another favourite son exiled

I'm happy seeing coaches making a come back. I wanted Ratts to return eventually as senior coach for Carlton.

Sheedy was never coach of Richmond dickhead. Walls did his time at Fitzroy, Swapped places with Parkin. Parkin came to us as a premiership coach already. He coached Hawthorn to a premiership in 1978, then coached us to two premierships in 1981 and 82. Swapped places, as noted previously, with Walls. Took Fitzroy to a prelim in his first year... lasted 3 seasons. Lets run the rule over Walls, for his time at Carlton, and Voss.

Walls coached 84 games, won 55, lost 29 games. Won a premiership (after winning 3 as a player). Was sacked by the clubs after losing by 137 points to the Bears. Left our list in good nick

Voss, coached 109 games, 43 wins, 65 losses, 1 draw. No premierships (you mentioned his triple premiership). Was told the club wasn't renewing his contract. Left their list a shambles after alienating most of the squad by trying to trade club champions without discussing it with them.

Voss has learnt that he is not a senior coach. Since he started at Port, he has never been linked with another senior coaching job. Fact. I would bring him in as the midfield assistant coach... but senior coach... nope.

And you want him as a senior coach?

PS:

Think the Bears loss was by a late goal by Capper ?...

Any loss to the Bears was bad ... coach killer !!

Where is Voss coaching now? I'm curious. Since his failed spell as a senior coach, has he ever coached a senior squad again?

Voss might be the epitomy of agression, toughness, power over pansy... but he is also a failed coach who got sacked by the club where he is a legend. Ouch... that's not a good look there. Plus, he has a sub 50% win/loss ratio. He would be a good midfield coach. But, in 2013... for all his aggression and toughness... he lost the playing group... probably because of his aggression and toughness.
Voss is at Port still.

Word was Voss was the recommendation from the coaching selection process in 2019, but the teague train had the players and supporters.

We went the teague train. That committee involved Lloyd, Liddle, MLG & Judd who now are stepping down.

A strong club trusts their selection process.
Invests in it.

We make the same mistakes over and over.
Dont believe me, think about it.

We hand picked with little process Pagan, Ratten, Malthouse, Bolton, now Teague.

Be nice to see us, interview a coach, get them to present their view on the list, and their game plan to suit. Be nice to see a nee age coach with premierships in their background.

Not saying sack teague, just saying, we are still turning that corner into becoming a good football club

Anyone doubting Teague watch his presser. Best one since he has been head coach. Was very clear and even spoke in detail about the role Cunningham was supposed to have and how his injury affected the game.
It was the same rubbish he spews every week

‘we got beat around the contest’
‘We’re just not putting four quarters together’
‘We have belief we can beat anybody’
‘Cripps had [insert disposals] so he clearly had a good game’
‘We actually made a few changes’

Rinse and repeat

We need someone at the club senior coach or assistant who excels at strategy and game plan
Richmond had Caracella
Collingwood had Longmuir
Melbourne has Yze

We need this kid of person at the club because imo this is an area Teague needs big improvements in

we also need more toughness

I don't know I thought he sounded more real. Also admitted that his last press conference regarding the Cripps' injury wasn't the best

What do you want him to say ?

We played like dodo shit and went on a Mal Blight 'David Pittman is the most pathetic Rickman I have ever seen in my life' tirade ?

Those sort of coaching rants don't work any more..

Criticize his match day tactics and gameplan by all means but taking Teague to task over his Press Conference seems really as pointless as blaming the meteorologists for the bad weather we have been experiencing.

Not sure there was much for Teague to do in this one. Cunners down within minutes, whatever the **** happened to Harry and our best key forward was suddenly unable to lift his arms...and up against the most in-form side in the competition.

Even then, we didn't get blown away.

Stocker seemed to be getting more time around the ball, Docherty was being used through the middle, Williams was back at HB.

Some of the main changes we'd been wanting to see happened, but those changes were never going to be enough to tip the scales when they were weighted heavily against us before the first break.

Let's face it - Teague might be a dead man walking at this stage.

We play Hawthorn next week, and even with a win, we then play Sydney (away) and West Coast (home) before the bye. That will likely have us 4-7, out of contention, with a 2 week turnaround (followed by travelling twice in 3 weeks - if we sack Teague mid-season then it has to be at the bye IMO).

Things are pretty bleak now, but there's just too much to stake. We gambled on a '66 game rebuild' that is now into year 5 and we aren't even mediocre. We sold the farm for good average players who seem to all be injured, all the time. Cripps and McKay are both out of contract, both have quite attractive offers in front of them -we're a few bad losses away from basically starting all over again...

Whatever happens, can we please, please promise not to get all excited again if the temporary replacement gets a few wins? Like in 2019, we've probably been better than a 4-7 record would suggest. We have a few important structural players coming back and a nice little run of winnable games (Collingwood - North - St Kilda - GC) at the end of the year. Anyone excited for the 'Teague Train' reprised --> 'The Barker Express'?

I do not understand how AFL coaches continually sit in their boxes during the game, and are not on the bench with the players. Isn't that why every other football league on the PLANET has assistant coaches in the "box". And to watch Teague raise his eyebrows, mutter something, and look completely inept in the coaches box infuriates me.
Officially off the Teague train, but don't want the likes of Lyon as coach next year, want Voss, the man who I originally wanted as our coach. Brings a bit of campaigner to the picture.
Funny feeling clarko is somehow going to get offered a godfather offer new prez .

Bolts super defensive, no attack, development over wins

Teague super attacking, no defence, wins over development.

No wonder we are struggling. Polar opposites. And both wrong to an extent find a medium please.
Pretty sure before Teagues first full season he said that the game plan would be developed with input from the players and himself on how they wanted to play , not sure if that's been followed through with but I do remember him saying it .

Don't think it would take a godfather offer for Clarko, Hawks are traveling as well as we are. More a Sonny or Fredo offer.

If the Barker express is the next train I will be a bulldogs member
Why would he move from a team that he helped develop a winning culture for that is sitting on top of the ladder and flying, to our rabble.

seeing how we are so invested in fortune telling around here, if/when saviourclarko fails, will it be more of the same? sack the coach? every single time for the past 25 years, sack the ****en coach - it's almost as much a recurring theme as that other one - failure - gee wizz - where can we be going wrong? we keep sacking coaches and we keep failing? hmmmmm - I just can't put my finger on the problem..........but hell yeah, sack teague!!

Once.

My emoji response is not directed at you Thy.

The other day he refers to pre-season.

Today, ""I thought the injury was in the past. It hampered him in rounds two and three"

"I knew the full extent (of the injury), but I thought it was in the past.

"the fans need to know that he's right and he's out there."

Preseason... rounds two and three... thought it was in the past... he's fine...

Everything, even now, isn't painting a clear picture.
