Reckon the big mistake was in promising Williams the midfield. And that meant Fisher out.
Hopefully some sense prevails and they all go to and stay in the right positions.
Agree on Setters.
However it does say that Teague has tried things so that is a positive in his learning curve.
TDK is still raw. 3 years away from the body and mind to be permanent ruck. We can't afford to ruin him out of desperation but as a forward that could work and just 10 mins a quarter in the square.
For just one game i would love to see Williams go to hbf , Fisher go into the middle and Saad go to a hff . What could it hurt to try ?

Hmm I think now that TDK has had a few games back we can put a bit more faith in him. We can give him a chop out when match ups and form suits with Levi or Pittonet. But we aren't getting anything out of Pittonet.

I agree, ideally we'd have a ruck/forward in form but we don't. So instead of manufacturing our structure with players injured and out of form we should be looking at another approach. Pittonet got slaughtered by a first and third gamer this year.

Having the right coaching setup in place for the next 5-7 years is going to be critical to make the most out of the prime years of Weitering, Walsh, McKay, and what is left of Cripps.

There simply has to be a sense of urgency within, we should be scouring Australia to find the absolute best assistant coach candidates and coax them across. It is clear Teague struggles with the tactical aspect of the game, which is not ideal, but the players do seem to like him somewhat, which is a positive.

So... yeah... we do need to get a move on, because we are firmly entrenched in the bottom 6, yet again.

At least a top five pick will be handy and if Cripps leaves our compo will be pick 1-5 . 😂

It's even more critical given that the last 3 years (and seemingly this year) have been somewhat wasted (injuries, Bolton, Covid, whatever the **** is happening this year).

Indeed, which is why the focus for the remainder of the year should be on investing in players that could potentially form part of #17. The time for improvement in gameplan/strategy/defensive structure was in the pre-season.

We are ****ed, for 2021 at least.

Get Dow, Kemp, LOB, Honey and co into the team and let's lose with some dignity and forward planning.

This is a therapeutic post to remind/convince myself it isn't all doom and gloom 😂

Fish can 100% make it as a mid. He is dynamic and has excellent skills. Even better if he can split his time forward and be dangerous when there. I don't see it as a bad thing that he stated to the coach he wants to be a mid, he is backing himself to be good enough, great!

I firmly believe we have all the ingredients to be a good team with continued development. We have somewhat wasted the last 12 months though.

One example, last year I felt Setterfield turned the corner and was establishing himself as an AFL footballer, we quickly forget he played some very good games. Why did we place him on a wing? We shot his confidence from round 1. We have to instil confidence and belief through actions not just words. If Cripps isn't in the square Setterfield should be.

We need to look at other clubs that have made brutal and brave decisions. Although Curnow is playing well what benefit is it long term with him taking so many centre bounces. I think you have to maintain some integrity in selection since he has been one of our most consistent this year, so he could be playing the high half forward moving up to stoppages role. And as a great runner he could do this role for at least a year or two.

Teague finally made the 'tough' decision to drop Murphy but at the same time plays Levi, Stump and TDK. Yes Levi has played an important role for us in the past but he is now hampered by injury and severely out of form, Pittonet literally can't jump and is a liability around the ground. Take a different approach. Play TDK and allow any other non Rolls Royce player to jump up in the ruck to relieve.

Up until a few weeks ago I was calling for Betts to be dropped, I don't think that can happen atm. I want to see honey get games in this year though as an investment to 2022.

The bye can't come quick enough for this coaching group they desperately need some time to reflect, take a deep breath and change things up with their approach. Swans changed theirs in the hub last year and further developed it in the off season.

Back the youth in by playing them in key roles like Sydney and Essendon have, don't bring them in and set them up to fail. Dow and LOB should be playing this week.

Confidence and belief is the key, what an opportunity the current coaching staff have in trying to instil this and set the club up for 2022.
Murphy and casboult shouldn’t play again for us the season is shot , I get they will pursue Murphy to get to his 300th , there would be uproar by his supporters if they didn’t

but our development is our issue and it’s that simple and if you want another example of this

have a look who played for the swans , Kieran brand , when I heard his name , I was thinking I have heard this name before , and yes it true his ex hawks journey man and swans have made Him into a player , it can’t be coincidence that swans do this all the time if a player wants it bad enough !!

the first recruit we need when this failed season is finished is to get Brett Kirk out of Sydney to teach our club about with our leadership , heart ,and commitment!!

Another issue we have is attracting good assistant coaches is that the younger ones want to work under an experienced well credentialed coach who can show them the way... No one is coming to Carlton to work under Teague for that reason.. so we will be forced to pay top dollar to attract more experienced or be forced into taking ones that are just happy to have a job.
I don't necessarily think that is accurate. It could do a lot for your profile to be apart of a Carlton resurgence. I think from outside the club we would be viewed as a good option as we have the talent and good players in key roles. A few structural changes and results may follow.

It would be a great opportunity for Mitchell to get experience away from the Hawks, work with a young midfield with two already established stars.

I think coaching director role would appeal to Leppa too as he could oversee strategy and game plan.

I guess what I am trying to get across is whoever comes across is going to be able to have their voice heard and will get a lot of the accolades if we jump the ladder.

Look how Choco's image and brand has risen in just a few months.

Couldn't agree more.

Would rather lose for the rest of this year and finding out if Dow, Lob Honey etc are going to end up having what it takes... rather than losing by a bit less with Casboult, Murphy, Betts etc who won't be there next year.

We've cooked this year now. Let's get something out of it development wise.

Sorry for long Rant

What irks me the most about Teague's game plan and makes me think he is not the man...

Geelong, Richmond, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, West Coast and Port

All have a game plan that focus's on team, If a player gets pressured and needs to bomb the ball they know
if I kick it here our game plan will have numbers there, if I get the ball the next kick should be here, each player knows their role... etc

Us, we run around like headless chooks get into trouble, put under pressure, panic and just bomb the ball...

We have perennial hack kickers
Defence - Docherty, Weitering, Jones all panic with the ball...
Midfield - Cripps, Curnow panic and blindly bomb it...

You would hope, the coaches would think...
Hey our players constantly bomb the ball coming out of defensive 50, maybe we should set up for this and keep some numbers out of defence... But No...

Opposition just hold their defenders out cause they know we are going to do it...
Then the opposition get the easiest of turn over possessions and bring it straight back in...

On the rare case we have a player there, they are always behind wanting a cheepy over the back or undersized..

Same coming out of the midfield into forward 50, our forwards always play from behind allow easy uncontested marks to opposition...

To add to this we have many ball watches, wanting cheep kicks...

Watch Gibbons, Murphy, Casboult and at times McKay...
If we have a fast break from defence and need players to push hard forward, to become the next option it is rarely these guys...
Because they just walk around where they are watching the ball go past...

Saying Teague and Co, need time is bull dust...
They have had 2 full pre seasons and 24/7 through Covid with the players, to change this...

We should all remember that the year before Richmond won their first flag EVERYONE wanted Hardwick sacked and now look at him , Teague needs to be given at least one season with HIS choice of assistants , FFS Barker has been there too long and has done sfa . If Teague doesn't perform after that then bring in Ross Lyon .

They also wanted to sack Tim Watson the year before they sacked him.

We can't afford to ruin TDK, but we probably could have afforded to play him in the ruck a bit more against the Swans.

He's got his choice of assistants, he asked to keep the same assistants when the club wanted change. Plus he's got the long distance mentor of his choice who has only attended 1 game.

He's got to live or die by these decisions

Additionally the club kept the assistants including Teague when they sacked Bolton, did they get that decision wrong?

IMO the club must make the call at the end of the year can he coach or not?

Could it be that Hardwick was a statistical anomaly, or he completely changed his attitude and approach and the team started pulling their finger out.

Reckon if the season gets called off (unlikely, but possible), it would look pretty bad if we gave Teague the flick.

I am a lot more concerned about the current state of a new, more dangerous strain of COVID19 in Melbourne anyway.

Generally speaking though, I think we should try the Melbourne approach of keeping their senior coach but surrounding him with a lot better assistants for next season..

If it doesn't get results in 2022, than by all means replace Teague, but I honestly think it's an avenue we should explore first.

The club has got a lot wrong and come end of the year it’s decision for Teague

they can’t let him go into next year with one year on his contract , that would be a disaster ! The media will attack him and they won’t give the luxury Buckley gets in the media

so they extend his contract for 3 years with new assistants or they let him go

this playing group is already mentally fragile and the window for success is very short ,

A very fresh start is needed and right decisions need to be made my club ( which I don’t trust to be honest ) or we enter oblivion again !!
